Book Synopsis Europe's Constitutional Mosaic by : Neil Walker
Download or read book Europe's Constitutional Mosaic written by Neil Walker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book emerged from an extended seminar series held in Edinburgh Law School which sought to explore the complex constitutional arrangements of the European legal space as an inter-connected mosaic. There has been much recent debate concerning the constitutional future of Europe, focusing almost exclusively upon the EU in the context of the (failed) Constitutional Treaty of 2003-5 and the subsequent Treatyof Lisbon. The premise of the book is that this focus, while indispensable, offers only a partial vision of the complex constitutional terrain of contemporary Europe. In addition, it is essential to explore other threads of normative authority within and across states, embracing internal challenges to state-level constitutional regimes; the growing jurisprudential assertiveness of the Council of Europe regime through the ECHR and various democracy-building measures; as well as Europe's ever thicker relations, both with its border regions and with broader international institutions, especially those of the United Nations. Together these developments create increasingly dense networks of constitutional authority within the European space. This fluid and multi-dimensional dynamic is difficult to classify, and indeed may seem in many ways impenetrable, but that makes the explanatory challenge all the more important and pressing. Without this fuller picture it becomes impossible to understand the legal context of Europe today or the prospects of ongoing changes. The book brings together a range of experts in law, legal theory and political science from across Europe in order to address these complex issues and to supply illustrative case-studies in the topical areas of the constitutionalisation of European labour law and European criminal law.

Download or read book The Avant-Postman written by David Vichnar and published by Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Avant-Postman explores a broad range of innovative postwar writing in France, Britain, and the United States. Taking James Joyce’s "revolution of the word" in Ulysses and Finnegans Wake as a joint starting point, David Vichnar draws genealogical lines through the work of more than fifty writers up to the present, including Alain Robbe-Grillet, B. S. Johnson, William Burroughs, Christine Brooke-Rose, Georges Perec, Kathy Acker, Iain Sinclair, Hélène Cixous, Alan Moore, David Foster Wallace, and many others. Centering the exploration around five writing strategies employed by Joyce—narrative parallax, stylistic metempsychosis, concrete writing, forgery, and neologising the logos—the book reveals the striking continuities and developments from Joyce’s day to our own.

Download or read book Fractured Mosaic written by Sabarna Roy and published by One Point Six Technologies Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 1901 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractured Mosaic is yet another kaleidoscope from Sabarna Roy’s arsenal that will take the readers to a mesmerizing whirlpool. Most of the works published in this book have been earlier published in reputed media houses as musings of an author; in this book they have been brought together for the benefit of all the readers. After the smashing hit of his earlier six master pieces since 2010, Sabarna has been constantly writing in the format of a journal to imitate how the mind works in real life. Sabarna Roy has covered all genres in his literary works: short stories, novella, ballads, narrative poetry, plays, conversations, non-fictional writing, critical analysis of ideas and events, etcetera. He specializes in post-modern urban milieu which delightfully bridges the gap between the mundane and arcane writings of today and provides an interesting, yet intellectually stimulating, treat for the discerning reader. - Hindustan Times A unique matrix of dialogues and conversations between the characters in most of his novels and novellas, and even within his poems, certainly marks the beginning of a new era in English literature. Another significant thing is the easy way in which he flips genres in the same book or within one genre is revolutionary. The Last Plunge in Frosted Glass is a brilliant example. The Prank is a black comedy to its core and Instantaneous Death is an outrageous piece of prose writing. - Deccan Herald The dialogue that motivates Sabarna the most is from Inception by Christopher Nolan. It is – “What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient… highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it’s almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed-fully understood-that sticks.” - The Dispatch Sabarna Roy has been awarded the Literoma Laureate Award in 2019, Literoma Star Achiever Award 2020, Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012 – 2018 won the best book of the year 2019, the A List Award for excellence in fiction by the NewsX Media House, Certificate for The Real Super Heroes for spreading a spirit of positivity and hope during the COVID-19 Pandemic from Forever Star India Award 2020, the Certificate for Participation in the Indo Russian Friendship Celebration 2020, and the Literoma Golden Star Award 2020: Lifetime Achievement.

Book Synopsis The Last Mosaic by : Elizabeth Cooperman
Download or read book The Last Mosaic written by Elizabeth Cooperman and published by Sagging Shorts. This book was released on 2018-07 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literary Nonfiction. Art. Poetry. Italian Studies. Haunted by three thousand years of artists who made pilgrimage to the Eternal City, collaborators Elizabeth Cooperman and Thomas Walton gather impressions from the ruinous streets in and around Rome. The result is a literary mosaic that aligns itself with the ecstatic baroque of Bernini, the concentrated vision of Caravaggio, and the sublime uncertainty of Keats, as it resists the forces of "another dark age." Dazzling with image and anecdote, with comedy and cobblestones, with headless statues and the bright robes of street performers, with shadow and cicada and shock of light, THE LAST MOSAIC is an aesthetic call to arms to "listen," a battle cry to "be impressed," and a plea to "get lost."

Book Synopsis Some Little Night Musings by : Hyatt Carter
Download or read book Some Little Night Musings written by Hyatt Carter and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Praise for Hyatt Carter's previous book Thinking Is the Best Way to Travel Hyatt Carter has now shared stations along the way of his intellectual experiences in his Thinking is the Best Way to Travel: Essays along the Journey. Carter is that rare creature, an independent polymath, the scarcity of which in the epoch of specialization has severely scarred contemporary life. There are dabblers aplenty, but the polymath in full flow is an exciting phenomenon. David Spooner, author of The Metaphysics of Insects and Other Essays Thinking Is the Best Way to Travel was not just any journey, it was the best kind of vacation, a vacation from myself and the usual ways I see and know myself and the world around me. I am intrigued by life-development transitions and how they facilitate new structures of reasoning and the freedom to find new mutualities of self-other knowing. This book is a wonderful way of making that journey without purposefully intending to do any of this. Dr. William Kent Larkin, author of Growing The Positive Mind and Director of The Applied Neuroscience Institute The best thing about the book is that it is enjoyable to read. It proceeds at a measured pace, without tight, convoluted thinking that one has to fight his way through. I like the cadence; it has a nice pace and rhythm. This is an interesting book that gives one the sense of a life spent in thoughtful reading and reflection. W. K. Maples, mathematician, Marshall Space Flight Center Hyatt Carter has a skillful way of making philosophical concepts easy to comprehend. I find myself taking notes while reading, looking up some of cited authors on the Internet, and ordering their books. Ramón Barayón, author of A Planetary Sojourn and A Death in Zamora
