Book excerpt: When Sarah Palin says it, all of America hears it. In the few years since Americans met Sarah Palin, her every word has been chronicled, analyzed, celebrated, and yes, infamously disparaged. Regardless of your party affiliation, it's impossible to deny her influence on American politics and the dialogue her ideas have generated. Author Matt Lewis has gathered some of Palin's most memorable remarks, reminding us that whether you consider her a rogue or a patriot, her words reveal a genuine love for America. Endorsements: If you learned everything you knew about American politics from Matt Lewis, you'd be in pretty good shape. I should know, since I practically do. ?Tucker Carlson, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Caller Matt Lewis is a conservative provocateur and has an easy way of making complicated issues understandable and leaving the DC jargon off the table. Matt's projects always make you think, reflect and act. ?Governor Rick Perry, 47th Governor of Texas Sarah Palin is one of the most important conservative leaders in America -- and Matt Lewis is one of my favorite writers. Every conservative ought to have a copy of the Quotable Rogue in their personal library -- if for no other reason than to refute the distortions and lies constantly hurled at Palin by her detractors. ?Ken Blackwell, former Ohio Secretary of State, senior fellow at the Family Research Council For all the accolades heaped on Mr. Obama for his soaring rhetoric and brilliant, professorial oratory, it's hard to deny that Sarah Palin is one of the most quotable leaders of the 21st century. The Quotable Rogue brings that into stunning clarity. And it's not because she's controversial -- it's because she's usually just right. ?S.E. Cupp, political columnist and culture critic, author of Losing Our Religion: The Liberal Media’s Attack on Christianity As you'll see in Matt's book, the reason for Sarah Palin's popularity is that she speaks in a blunt fashion and exposes truths that the politically correct job-protecting elites are fearful of. She is a far wiser woman than Katie Couric. ?Andrew Breitbart, Breitbart.com, author of Righteous Indignation Sarah Palin drives the left crazy and makes many of the Republicans who collaborated with Democrats to destroy our fiscal wellbeing duck and cover. Matt Lewis captures, through Sarah Palin's own words, her wit, wisdom, and basic sense that America remains the last best hope for mankind. ?Erick Erickson, Editor-in-Chief of RedState.com Steadfast in her beliefs and fearless in her demeanor, Sarah Palin has become a leading voice in today’s conservative movement and has inspired a new generation of activists. This book of quotes captures the independent spirit of Palin and is a great resource for all of us who are ‘going rogue’ alongside her. ?Teri Christoph, co-founder, Smart Girl Politics A book like this one is absolutely essential in a world where the media refuses to quote Gov. Palin without liberal doses of snark, vitriol, and hyperbole. It's refreshing to see straight quotes in print so that readers can make up their own minds. ?Adam Brickley, founder, "Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C.S. Lewis was concerned about an aspect of the problem of evil he called subjectivism: the tendency of one's perspective to move towards self-referentialism and utilitarianism. In C.S. Lewis and a Problem of Evil, Jerry Root provides a holistic reading of Lewis by walking the reader through all of Lewis's published work as he argues Lewis's case against subjectivism. Furthermore, the book reveals that Lewis consistently employed fiction to make his case, as virtually all of his villains are portrayed assubjectivists. Lewis's warnings are prophetic; this book is not merely an exposition of Lewis, it is also a timely investigation into the problem of evil.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Grief Observed is a collection of Lewis's reflections on the experience of bereavement following the death of his wife, Joy Davidman, in 1960. The book was first published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk as Lewis wished to avoid identification as the author. Though republished in 1963 after his death under his own name, the text still refers to his wife as "H" (her first name, which she rarely used, was Helen). The book is compiled from the four notebooks which Lewis used to vent and explore his grief. He illustrates the everyday trials of his life without Joy and explores fundamental questions of faith and theodicy. Lewis's step-son (Joy's son) Douglas Gresham points out in his 1994 introduction that the indefinite article 'a' in the title makes it clear that Lewis's grief is not the quintessential grief experience at the loss of a loved one, but one individual's perspective among countless others. The book helped inspire a 1985 television movie Shadowlands, as well as a 1993 film of the same name. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lewis struck me as the most thoroughly converted man I ever met," observes Walter Hooper in the preface to this collection of essays by C.S. Lewis. "His whole vision of life was such that the natural and the supernatural seemed inseparably combined. "It is precisely this pervasive Christianity which is demonstrated in the forty-eight essays comprising God in the Dock. Here Lewis addresses himself both to theological questions and to those which Hooper terms "semi-theological," or ethical. But whether he is discussing "Evil and God," "Miracles," "The Decline of Religion," or "The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment," his insight and observations are thoroughly and profoundly Christian. Drawn from a variety of sources, the essays were designed to meet a variety of needs, and among other accomplishments they serve to illustrate the many different angles from which we are able to view the Christian religion. They range from relatively popular pieces written for newspapers to more learned defenses of the faith which first appeared in The Socratic Digest. Characterized by Lewis's honesty and realism, his insight and conviction, and above all his thoroughgoing commitments to Christianity, these essays make God in the Dock very much a book for our time.--Amazon.com.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers who can quote word for word from C.S. Lewis’s theological classic, Mere Christianity, or his science fiction novel, Perelandra, have often never read his work as a professional literary historian. They may not even recognize some of the neglected works discussed, here. Mark Neal and Jerry Root have done students of Lewis a great service, tracing the signature ideas in Lewis’s works of literary criticism and showing their relevance to Lewis’s more familiar books. Their thorough research and lucid prose will be welcome to all who would like to understand Lewis more fully, but who feel daunted by books of such evident scholarly erudition. For example, when you read The Discarded Image on the ancients’ view of the heavens, you understand better why Ransom has such unpleasant sensations when first descending toward Malacandra in Out of the Silent Planet. And when you come across Lewis’s discussion in OHEL of a minor sixteenth-century poet who described the hellish River Styx as a “puddle glum,” you can’t help but chuckle at the name when you meet the famous Marshwiggle in The Silver Chair. These are just two examples of how reading the “Neglected Lewis” can help every reader understand Lewis more fully.

Book excerpt: " As far as Lewis's own works are concerned, this is the most important book to be published since he died." --Walter Hooper, Literary Advisor to the Estate of C.S. Lewis " Whether one is trying for the first time to find out what my stepfather wrote about a particular topic, or whether one is having difficulty remembering the exact place of a passage read previously, the "C.S. Lewis Index will prove invaluable." --Douglas Gresham, Author of "Lenten Lands: My Childhood with Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis " A true boon to all who would mine the motherlode of Lewis's writings. Goffar's index is a reliable and well-researched guide to real treasure." --Dr. J. Stanley Mattson, Founder and President of the C.S. Lewis Foundation " A wonderful book. Wade Center at Wheaton College " Goffar's work is a masterpiece of economy. Part of her gift to us is her talent for selecting just the right phrase, giving us just enough to let us know we've found the right quote or idea, sending us on to the original, and allowing space for more entries. This is a work much needed and long overdue." --Wayne Martindale, Associate Professor of English at Wheaton College " Whether one is hunting for a particular quotation or sampling Lewis's thoughts on a given subject, this resource may quickly become one of the most well-thumbed on the bookshelf." --"Christianity Today " A necessary aid, making all of Lewis's thought accessible categorically. I highly recommend it " --Jerry Root, Co-editor of "The Quotable Lewis " Not only a useful--indeed, a necessary--addition to our efforts to apprehend C.S. Lewis, but a noble one. I shall visit this index continually." --Dr. James Como, Editor of " CSL: The Bulletin of the New York C.S. Lewis Society" and Author of "C.S.
