Book excerpt: Meet the smart, sexy — supernatural — women of the otherworld. This is not your mother’s coven... Kelley Armstrong returns with the eagerly awaited follow-up to Dime Store Magic. Paige Winterbourne, a headstrong young woman haunted by a dark legacy, is now put to the ultimate test as she fights to save innocents from the most insidious evil of all.. . . In the aftermath of her mother’s murder, Paige broke with the elite, ultraconservative American Coven of Witches. Now her goal is to start a new Coven for a new generation. But while Paige pitches her vision to uptight thirty-something witches in business suits, a more urgent matter commands her attention. Someone is murdering the teenage offspring of the underworld’s most influential Cabals — a circle of families that makes the mob look like amateurs. And none is more powerful than the Cortez Cabal, a faction Paige is intimately acquainted with. Lucas Cortez, the rebel son and unwilling heir, is none other than her boyfriend. But love isn’t blind, and Paige has her eyes wide open as she is drawn into a hunt for an unnatural-born killer. Pitted against shamans, demons, and goons, it’s a battle chilling enough to make a wild young woman grow up in a hurry. If she gets the chance.
Book Synopsis Religious Methods and Resources in Bioethics by : P.F. Camenisch

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A volume on religious/theological methods in biomedical ethics inevitably of whether the methodological dimension can be distin raises the question guished from the various other things that go on in ethical discourse. It is difficult to answer this question definitively since many elements in moral conversation can be interpreted in different ways. Barbara Hilkert Andolsen illustrates this issue in this volume when she defines one of her crucial cate gories, gender justice, as being both procedural and substantive/normative. This difficulty of finally separating the methodological from the normative arises in many areas of contemporary ethical writing, both feminist and otherwise. Nevertheless, it seems that in many cases we can separate out the method ological issues with considerable precision. Albert Jonsen and James Childress achieve just such a sharp focus in their essays. This does not mean that a careful dissecting of their papers would not reveal normative elements lurking about their methodological points. It is simply to say that the issues they analyze and the positions they take are, at least prima facie, overwhelmingly method ological. They are much more about how we think about ethical matters than they are about what we think about them.

This book was released on 1982-11-15 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An important, provocative and original work, of great interest to Indian scholars, historians of religions, psychologists and historians of ideas, but accessible also to the cultivated reader. Even if one does not always agree with the author's interpretation, one cannot but admire her vast and precise learning, her splendid translations and exegesis of so many, and so different, Sanskrit texts, and her uninhibited, brilliant, and witty prose."—Mircea Eliade, University of Chicago "This is . . . a book which is as rich in detail as the carvings of the great Hindu temples. It shares with them a delight in the interplay of myth and mundane experience, and above all an empathy with the Hindu preoccupation with the meaning of human existence in all its complexity."—G. M. Carstairs, Times Literary Supplement
