Book excerpt: A symposium on High-Angle-of-Attack Aerodynamics, organized by the AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel, was held at Sandefjord, Norway from October 4 through October 6, 1978. The aim of the Symposium was 'to bring together those working on fundamental fluid mechanics aspects of flight at high incidence and those concerned with the aerodynamic design of flight vehicles, to review developments in design and analysis techniques and to study the implications of available experiment data and theoretical results, including those concerned with asymmetric flight'. A total of thirty-two formal papers, organized into four topical sessions, were presented with an additional seven informal short papers being presented in an open workshop session. The Symposium was concluded with a round table discussion. The four topical sessions were: I-Studies of Configurations of Practical Application; II- Mathematical Modeling and Supporting Investigations; III-Design Methods; IV- Air Intakes. The thirty-two formal papers and seven open session papers have been published as AGARD Conference Proceedings No. 247. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview and evaluation of each topical sessions, and conclusions with regard to the impact on the state of technology, including some thoughts relative to areas where increased effort would appear profitable. Oskam and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an overall survey and evaluation of the AGARD Symposium on 'Improvement of Aerodynamic Performance through Boundary Layer Control and High Lift Systems' held in Brussels, Belgium, 21-23 May 1984. The complete text of papers presented at the meeting and discussion led by authors of this report was published in May 1984 as AGARD Conference Proceedings No. 365. Emphasis of the presentations and discussion on lift augmentation was on mechanical high-lift systems, while laminar flow control and boundary layer manipulation shared the session on drag reduction. Significant interest was also shown in control of shock wave boundary layer interactions to mitigate their adverse effects. The Symposium and this evaluation were sponsored by the Fluid Dynamics Panel of AGARD. Keywords include: Boundary layer control; High lift devices, and Aerodynamics characteristics.
Book Synopsis Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Aerodynamics of Power Plant Installation by : William P. Henderson
Download or read book Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Aerodynamics of Power Plant Installation written by William P. Henderson and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powerplant installations involve complex flows, strongly influenced by viscous effects and often with important aerodynamic interactions between the airframe and propulsion system. The introduction of new vehicle propulsion concepts, and new points of emphasis in aircraft and missile design requirements, provide an expanding range of aerodynamic problems which call for both experimental and theoretical study. It is the purpose of the symposium to survey the current and foreseeable aerodynamic problems in powerplant installation and to review recent work which has improved basic understanding or has enhanced prediction and design methods in this field. Book Synopsis Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Aerodynamics of Hypersonic Lifting Vehicles by : Seymour M. Bogdonoff
Download or read book Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Aerodynamics of Hypersonic Lifting Vehicles written by Seymour M. Bogdonoff and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Symposium was to assess the technology status in the field of hypersonics after a comparative lull in the past decade. The limitations of test facilities for experimental studies at high Mach numbers were clearly evident. New developments in computational fluid dynamics provide possibilities that did not exist in the past. The reviewer stressed the areas that need special emphasis in the future. Keywords: Reviews, Meetings, Lifting bodies, Hypersonic vehicles, Aerodynamics, NATO furnished.(jhd).

Book Synopsis Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics by : H. Bergh
Download or read book Technical Evaluation Report on the Fluid Dynamics Panel Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics written by H. Bergh and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium demonstrated the different stages of development in the broad field of unsteady aerodynamics. Satisfactory tools are available for the subsonic and supersonic speed regime with attached flow. Understanding has been improved in unsteady transonic aerodynamics, but the need for high Reynolds number transonic facility capability is evident. Difficulty in correlation of work in fixed wing and helicopter attached/separated flow problems is noted. Unsteady flows associated with rotors, cascades and turbomachinery require more attention, and the common interests of structural aeroelasticians in unsteady aerodynamics calls for more collaboration with aerodynamicists.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel held its spring symposium 1980 on Subsonic/Transonic Configuration Aerodynamics at the Hochschule der Bundeswehr Munchen, Neubiberg, 5-7 May, 1980. The requirement of improved performance of military combat and airlift aircraft requires not only highly refined point designs at specific flight conditions, but also mission design to maintain optimal performance over the flight spectrum; for instance, by variable geometry concepts. Of particular importance here is the aerodynamic design of the wing, fuselage, components of the empennage, external and conformal stores, fuselage and wing-mounted nacelle-pylons with their powered jet exhausts at subsonic and transonic Mach numbers such that each component achieves optimal performance under the influence of the other components. Here, not only must adverse interference effects be eliminated, but positive favorable interference must be sought. There have been great strides recently in the understanding of aerodynamic interference through more carefully conducted and highly diagnosed windtunnel tests, as well as by the availability of versatile computer codes and powerful computers. It will be the aim of the Symposium to report on these accomplishments. Vectored thrust in the context with V/STOL in excluded. With this scope the meeting was a direct successor of the FDP-Symposium Aerodynamic Interference held in autumn 1970. At that time the solution of aerodynamic interference problems at subsonic and supersonic speed became feasible with the development of panel methods.
