This book was released on 2008-11-11 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a need to understand the factors correlating with teachers' instructional use of computers, because much of the present research focuses on students rather than teachers. This study examines several factors relating to the use of computers in the classroom by teachers. The factors examined include teacher attitudes, emotions, beliefs, and outside influences. This was done by a review of the present literature, administering two surveys, and analyzing the survey data. Questionnaires were distributed to faculty at five randomly selected high schools in a Midwest city participating in the study. Data from the survey was then examined to determine which factors correlate with teacher computer use in the classroom. The results of this study will help improve understanding of teachers' instructional computer use.

Book Synopsis Attitudes towards Computers. An investigation into the use of computers by teachers by : Ruchi Sachdeva

This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2016 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, , language: English, abstract: Traditional or conventional teachers have a phobia of using technology like a fear of looking foolish, fear of asking for help, fear of not ‘catching on’ quickly enough, and fear of not being able to be effective with the technology in instructional settings. It is important to understand that these fears were self-imposed and self-generated, but very real nevertheless. Technology has an essential role to play in reducing the disparities that exist between the developed and developing countries. Computers are especially important in this context, because so many computer applications have a direct bearing on some of the main facets of the development process and reflect certain aspects of the technology that has facilitated the growth of the economically advanced countries. This study investigates the different attitudes towards computers and analyses them.

Book Synopsis Analyses of Teachers' Perceptions and Attitudes of a Teacher Laptop Initiative by : Catherine Gurley Raulston
Download or read book Analyses of Teachers' Perceptions and Attitudes of a Teacher Laptop Initiative written by Catherine Gurley Raulston and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study analyzed the attitudes and perceptions of teachers following the implementation of a teacher laptop initiative. The attitudes and perceptions were documented through a mixed-methods research design that collected both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were gathered using pretest and posttest surveys. Qualitative data were gathered through focus group interviews and were used to further inform the quantitative data. The quantitative data suggested that a teacher laptop initiative can affect attitudes and perceptions of teachers. Participants in this study increased their overall perception of their computer use and began to adopt technology in the classroom by using it more often. Results suggested that teachers became more comfortable with computers when given a laptop. The quantitative data did not show significance between a teacher laptop initiative and teacher interest toward computers and teacher view of computer significance. This research also suggested that a teacher laptop initiative, coupled with professional development, can better prepare students for the 21st century. An implication of this study was if teachers are given resources and proper training on how to implement technology in the classroom, attitudes and classroom practices can be changed. Participants believed if educators begin to integrate technology in the classroom and model skills for students, technology could help prepare students for the 21st century.

Book Synopsis Oversold and Underused by : Larry CUBAN
Download or read book Oversold and Underused written by Larry CUBAN and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Impelled by a demand for increasing American strength in the new global economy, many educators, public officials, business leaders, and parents argue that school computers and Internet access will improve academic learning and prepare students for an information-based workplace. But just how valid is this argument? In Oversold and Underused, one of the most respected voices in American education argues that when teachers are not given a say in how the technology might reshape schools, computers are merely souped-up typewriters and classrooms continue to run much as they did a generation ago. In his studies of early childhood, high school, and university classrooms in Silicon Valley, Larry Cuban found that students and teachers use the new technologies far less in the classroom than they do at home, and that teachers who use computers for instruction do so infrequently and unimaginatively. Cuban points out that historical and organizational economic contexts influence how teachers use technical innovations. Computers can be useful when teachers sufficiently understand the technology themselves, believe it will enhance learning, and have the power to shape their own curricula. But these conditions can't be met without a broader and deeper commitment to public education beyond preparing workers. More attention, Cuban says, needs to be paid to the civic and social goals of schooling, goals that make the question of how many computers are in classrooms trivial.

Book Synopsis Elementary School Teachers' Perceptions of Student Motivation to Use Classroom Integrated Technology by : Jason Lynn Webb
Download or read book Elementary School Teachers' Perceptions of Student Motivation to Use Classroom Integrated Technology written by Jason Lynn Webb and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The integration of technology into the classroom transforms curriculum design and instructional methods. Research suggests that the perspectives of teachers and students are not always in agreement regarding the influence of classroom integrated technology on learning motivation. The purpose of this causal-comparative study was to determine if there is a significant difference in how teachers perceive the influence of technology integration on student learning motivation based on teacher gender, teacher weekly hours of computer use, and teacher years of teaching experience. The study used the Teacher Attitudes toward Classroom Computing Scale to collect data from 238 4th- and 5th-grade rural schoolteacher participants from low-socioeconomic areas to determine teachers’ views of student motivation when using classroom integrated technology. A one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze teacher perceptions of students’ motivation using classroom integrated technology, teacher gender, teacher weekly hours of computer use, and teacher years of teaching experience. Results indicated no statistically significant difference in 4th- and 5th-grade rural schoolteacher perceptions of the influence of classroom integrated technology on student motivation based on teacher gender, teacher weekly hours of computer use, and teacher years of teaching experience. Since teachers provide the classroom instruction and make decisions regarding the integration of classroom technology, further studies regarding the integration of classroom technology and teacher perceptions of student motivation to use technology may improve knowledge delivery and student performance.

The study is delimited to first grade preservice teachers of CEIT department because computers are indispensable not only for their academic program but also for their professional development as teachers. The questionnaire included twenty items and demographics of the participants. Four independent variables; gender, having a computer, years of computer experience and competencies of computer skills; and one dependent variable (item scores) compose the instrument. The results of questionnaire were carefully scrutinized by statistical methods. Recommendations were provided for further studies to yield more application concerning attitudes toward computers. Based on established principles of the best ways to use ICT in English, this practical resource looks at when and how ICT can be used to engage and inspire students of English, but only when it enhances teaching and learning, never for its own sake. Beginning with an overview of what ICT can offer and how it is changing the way we teach and learn, the authors then give practical examples of activities and ideas to attain key English skills and learning goals in secondary schools. Throughout the book, there are tried-and-tested ideas for tackling the hard-to-teach topics, and there is also a dedicated website with links to useful websites, the authors' favourite tips and downloadable resources.
