Book Synopsis Historia de las mujeres en América Latina by : Juan Andreo García
Download or read book Historia de las mujeres en América Latina written by Juan Andreo García and published by EDITUM. This book was released on 2002 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Bloomsbury Handbook of the Spanish Civil War by : Antonio Cazorla-Sanchez
Download or read book The Bloomsbury Handbook of the Spanish Civil War written by Antonio Cazorla-Sanchez and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 25 innovative thematic essays, The Bloomsbury Handbook of the Spanish Civil War sees an interdisciplinary team of scholars examine a conflict that, more than 80 years after its conclusion, continues to generate both scholarly and public controversy. Split into four main sections covering Military and Diplomatic Issues, Society and Culture, Politics, and Debates, the volume offers a number of unique features. It is unprecedented in its comprehensiveness and includes chapters on topics that are rarely, if ever, explored in the literature of the field: humanitarianism, children and families, material conditions, the decimation of elites, archives and sources, archaeological approaches, digital approaches, public history, and cultural studies approaches. Instead of discussing each of the two warring sides, Republicans and Francoists, separately, as is so often the case, the book's thematic structure means that these opposing forces are examined together, facilitating comparison and fresh understanding in numerous areas of study. Contributors from the UK, the USA, Canada, Spain and Denmark also analyse the major controversies and disputes surrounding each topic as part of a detailed exploration of one of the seminal events of the 20th century.
Book Synopsis Gender and the Woman Artist in Early Modern Iberia by : Catherine Hall-van den Elsen
Download or read book Gender and the Woman Artist in Early Modern Iberia written by Catherine Hall-van den Elsen and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explores the social constructs surrounding artistic production in early modern Iberia through the lenses of gender and class by examining the rarely considered contribution of creative women in Spain and Portugal between 1550 and 1700. Using the life-stage framework popular in texts of the period and drawing on a broad spectrum of materials including conduct guidebooks, treatises and conventual rules, this book examines the constraints imposed by gender-related social structures through microhistories of nuns, married, and unmarried women. The text spans class boundaries in its analysis of the work of painters, engravers, and sculptors, many of whom have until now eluded scholarly attention in English-language publications. An extensive bibliography promotes new avenues of inquiry into women’s contributions to the visual arts of the period. This book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, gender studies, women’s history, early modern Iberian studies, and Renaissance studies.
Book Synopsis Repensar la sostenibilidad by : ENRÍQUEZ SÁNCHEZ José María
Download or read book Repensar la sostenibilidad written by ENRÍQUEZ SÁNCHEZ José María and published by Editorial UNED. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Memory and Cultural History of the Spanish Civil War by :
Download or read book Memory and Cultural History of the Spanish Civil War written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors in this anthology explore how we are to rethink political and social narratives of the Spanish Civil War at the turn of the twenty-first century. The questions addressed here are based on a solid intellectual conviction of all the contributors to resist facile arguments both on the Right and the Left, concerning the historical and collective memory of the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship in the milieu of post-transition to democracy. Central to a true democratic historical narrative is the commitment to listening to the other experiences and the willingness to rethink our present(s) in light of our past(s). The volume is divided in six parts: I. Institutional Realms of Memory; II. Past Imperfect: Gender Archetypes in Retrospect; III. The Many Languages of Domesticity; IV. Realms of Oblivion: Hunger, Repression, and Violence; V. Strangers to Ourselves: Autobiographical Testimonies; and VI. The Orient Within: Myths of Hispano-Arabic Identity. Download or read book Repensar la dramaturgia written by and published by CENDEAC. This book was released on 2011 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Unsettling Nostalgia in Spain and Chile by : Lisa DiGiovanni
Download or read book Unsettling Nostalgia in Spain and Chile written by Lisa DiGiovanni and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-11-08 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unsettling Nostalgia in Spain and Chile: Longing for Resistance in Literature and Film reframes nostalgia to analyze how writers and filmmakers have responded to 20th-century dictatorial violence and loss in Spain and Chile. By reaching beyond reductive definitions that limit nostalgia to a conservative desire to defend traditional power hierarchies, Lisa DiGiovanni captures the complexity of a critically conscious type of longing and form of transmission that she terms “unsettling nostalgia.” Using literature and film, DiGiovanni illustrates how unsettling nostalgia imbues representations of pre-dictatorial mobilization during the Second Spanish Republic (1931–1939) and the Chilean Popular Unity (1970–1973), as well as depictions of clandestine resistance to the Franco dictatorship (1939–1975) and the Pinochet regime (1973–1989). Positive memories of efforts to upend power hierarchies coexist with retrospective critiques that fissure romanticized views of revolutionary struggle. Unsettling nostalgic works engender deeper understandings of the complexities of political movements and how stories of resistance are meaningful today. By calling attention to the parallels between nostalgic modes that resist multiple injustices based on gender, class, and sexuality, this book traces an evocative continuity between Spain and Chile that goes beyond the initial work that links forms of militaristic authoritarianism. Scholars of Latin American studies, film studies, literary studies, history, women's and gender studies, memory studies, and rhetoric will find this book particularly useful.
Book Synopsis Mision en el camino by : Charles E. Van Engen
Download or read book Mision en el camino written by Charles E. Van Engen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-28 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis Latin American Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Bioethics and Disabilities by : Ana Paula Barbosa-Fohrmann
Download or read book Latin American Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Bioethics and Disabilities written by Ana Paula Barbosa-Fohrmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a critical analysis of the experiences of people with disabilities in Latin America. It covers a wide range of topics related to intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. Written by Latin American researchers and adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, it provides an original sociocultural contribution to bioethics and disability studies literature. It presents an in-depth overview of philosophical, ethical, legal, political and social issues. At the same time, it offers a contribution to the global scientific community inasmuch it discusses theoretical references from South America in connection with those from Europe and the United States. The basic questions dealt with range from criteria for human flourishing to questions of philosophy of mind, and neuroethics through phenomenological and aesthetic approaches to intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. The legal and political investigations explore the rights of those affected and the processes of their self-organization. The authors address the dynamics of medicalization and demedicalization, the practices of psychiatric institutionalization and the treatment of children with antipsychotics. This book appeals to psychologists, social scientists, bioethicists, healthcare personnel, philosophers, and lawyers working with cases related to people with disabilities.
Book Synopsis Women's Activism in Latin America and the Caribbean by : Elizabeth Maier
Download or read book Women's Activism in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Elizabeth Maier and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2010-05-06 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's Activism in Latin America and the Caribbean brings together a group of interdisciplinary scholars who analyze and document the diversity, vibrancy, and effectiveness of women's experiences and organizing in Latin America and the Caribbean during the past four decades. Most of the expressions of collective agency are analyzed in this book within the context of the neoliberal model of globalization that has seriously affected most Latin American and Caribbean women's lives in multiple ways. Contributors explore the emergence of the area's feminist movement, dictatorships of the 1970s, the Central American uprisings, the urban, grassroots organizing for better living conditions, and finally, the turn toward public policy and formal political involvement and the alternative globalization movement. Geared toward bridging cultural realities, this volume represents women's transformations, challenges, and hopes, while considering the analytical tools needed to dissect the realities, understand the alternatives, and promote gender democracy.
Book Synopsis Decoding Gender by : Helga Baitenmann
Download or read book Decoding Gender written by Helga Baitenmann and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2007-06-22 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender discrimination pervades nearly all legal institutions and practices in Latin America. The deeper question is how this shapes broader relations of power. By examining the relationship between law and gender as it manifests itself in the Mexican legal system, the thirteen essays in this volume show how law is produced by, but also perpetuates, unequal power relations. At the same time, however, authors show how law is often malleable and can provide spaces for negotiation and redress. The contributors (including political scientists, sociologists, geographers, anthropologists, and economists) explore these issues-not only in courts, police stations, and prisons, but also in rural organizations, indigenous communities, and families. By bringing new interdisciplinary perspectives to issues such as the quality of citizenship and the rule of law in present-day Mexico, this book raises important issues for research on the relationship between law and gender more widely.
Download or read book Abuelita fe written by Kat Armas and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
