Book excerpt: Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Power Systems: Technologies and Applications provides a systematic and detailed description of organic Rankine cycle technologies and the way they are increasingly of interest for cost-effective sustainable energy generation. Popular applications include cogeneration from biomass and electricity generation from geothermal reservoirs and concentrating solar power installations, as well as waste heat recovery from gas turbines, internal combustion engines and medium- and low-temperature industrial processes. With hundreds of ORC power systems already in operation and the market growing at a fast pace, this is an active and engaging area of scientific research and technical development. The book is structured in three main parts: (i) Introduction to ORC Power Systems, Design and Optimization, (ii) ORC Plant Components, and (iii) Fields of Application. - Provides a thorough introduction to ORC power systems - Contains detailed chapters on ORC plant components - Includes a section focusing on ORC design and optimization - Reviews key applications of ORC technologies, including cogeneration from biomass, electricity generation from geothermal reservoirs and concentrating solar power installations, waste heat recovery from gas turbines, internal combustion engines and medium- and low-temperature industrial processes - Various chapters are authored by well-known specialists from Academia and ORC manufacturers
Book Synopsis Organic Rankine Cycle Technology for Heat Recovery by : Enhua Wang
Download or read book Organic Rankine Cycle Technology for Heat Recovery written by Enhua Wang and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on organic Rankine cycle technology presents nine chapters on research activities covering the wide range of current issues on the organic Rankine cycle. The first section deals with working fluid selection and component design. The second section is related to dynamic modeling, starting from internal combustion engines to industrial power plants. The third section discusses industrial applications of waste heat recovery, including internal combustion engines, LNG, and waste water. A comprehensive analysis of the technology and application of organic Rankine cycle systems is beyond the aim of the book. However, the content of this volume can be useful for scientists and students to broaden their knowledge of technologies and applications of organic Rankine cycle systems.

Download or read book Jet Propulsion written by N. A. Cumpsty and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-08-14 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second edition of Cumpsty's excellent self-contained introduction to the aerodynamic and thermodynamic design of modern civil and military jet engines. Through two engine design projects, first for a new large passenger aircraft, and second for a new fighter aircraft, the text introduces, illustrates and explains the important facets of modern engine design. Individual sections cover aircraft requirements and aerodynamics, principles of gas turbines and jet engines, elementary compressible fluid mechanics, bypass ratio selection, scaling and dimensional analysis, turbine and compressor design and characteristics, design optimization, and off-design performance. The book emphasises principles and ideas, with simplification and approximation used where this helps understanding. This edition has been thoroughly updated and revised, and includes a new appendix on noise control and an expanded treatment of combustion emissions. Suitable for student courses in aircraft propulsion, but also an invaluable reference for engineers in the engine and airframe industry.

This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 14th International Conference on Turbochargers and Turbocharging addresses current and novel turbocharging system choices and components with a renewed emphasis to address the challenges posed by emission regulations and market trends. The contributions focus on the development of air management solutions and waste heat recovery ideas to support thermal propulsion systems leading to high thermal efficiency and low exhaust emissions. These can be in the form of internal combustion engines or other propulsion technologies (eg. Fuel cell) in both direct drive and hybridised configuration. 14th International Conference on Turbochargers and Turbocharging also provides a particular focus on turbochargers, superchargers, waste heat recovery turbines and related air managements components in both electrical and mechanical forms.

Book Synopsis Power Recovery from Low Grade Heat by Means of Screw Expanders by : Ian K Smith
Download or read book Power Recovery from Low Grade Heat by Means of Screw Expanders written by Ian K Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current concerns with climate change have resulted in greatly increased interest in power recovery from low grade heat sources. This includes both hot fluid streams which can be expanded directly to produce mechanical power and those which act as a source of heat to closed cycle power generation systems. Power recovery from low grate heat by means of screw expanders with a generalised overview of how best to recover power from such sources, based on thermodynamic considerations, which differs to the approach used in classical thermodynamics textbooks and which includes an introductory description of the types of working fluid that are used in systems used to recover power from such sources and the criteria that must be taken into account in their selection. This is followed by a description of the mathematical modelling of twin screw machine geometry. The modelling of the thermodynamics and fluid flow through such machines is then given, together with how this is used to predict their performance. Finally a detailed description is given of systems currently used or projected both for direct expansion of the source fluid and by recovery of heat from it, which includes those which are particularly suited to the use of screw expanders in place of turbines. - A novel generalised approach to the thermodynamics of power recovery from low grade heat systems - Gives criteria for working fluid selection - Provides details of, and how to model, screw expander geometry - Details how to estimate screw expander performance - Surveys types of system used for power recovery from low grade heat and where this can be improved by the use of screw expanders.
