This book was released on 2005-12-08 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing (PSB) 2006 is an international, multidisciplinary conference for the presentation and discussion of current research in the theory and application of computational methods in problems of biological significance. Presentations are rigorously peer reviewed and are published in an archival proceedings volume. PSB 2006 will be held January 3-7, 2006 at the Grand Wailea, Maui. Tutorials will be offered prior to the start of the conference.PSB 2006 will bring together top researchers from the US, the Asian Pacific nations, and around the world to exchange research results and address open issues in all aspects of computational biology. It is a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualization, modeling, and other computational methods, as applied to biological problems, with emphasis on applications in data-rich areas of molecular biology. The PSB has been designed to be responsive to the need for critical mass in sub-disciplines within biocomputing. For that reason, it is the only meeting whose sessions are defined dynamically each year in response to specific proposals. PSB sessions are organized by leaders of research in biocomputing's “hot topics.” In this way, the meeting provides an early forum for serious examination of emerging methods and approaches in this rapidly changing field.

Book Synopsis Computational and Analytic Methods in Biological Sciences by : Akshara Makrariya
Download or read book Computational and Analytic Methods in Biological Sciences written by Akshara Makrariya and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite major advances in healthcare over the past century, the successful treatment of cancer has remained a significant challenge, and cancers are the second leading cause of death worldwide behind cardiovascular disease. Early detection and survival are important issues to control cancer. The development of quantitative methods and computer technology has facilitated the formation of new models in medical and biological sciences. The application of mathematical modelling in solving many real-world problems in medicine and biology has yielded fruitful results. In spite of advancements in instrumentations technology and biomedical equipment, it is not always possible to perform experiments in medicine and biology for various reasons. Thus, mathematical modelling and simulation are viewed as viable alternatives in such situations, and are discussed in this book. The conventional diagnostic techniques of cancer are not always effective as they rely on the physical and morphological appearance of the tumour. Early stage prediction and diagnosis is very difficult with conventional techniques. It is well known that cancers are involved in genome level changes. As of now, the prognosis of various types of cancer depends upon findings related to the data generated through different experiments. Several machine learning techniques exist in analysing the data of expressed genes; however, the recent results related with deep learning algorithms are more accurate and accommodative, as they are effective in selecting and classifying informative genes. This book explores the probabilistic computational deep learning model for cancer classification and prediction.
Book Synopsis Modern Computational Approaches to Traditional Chinese Medicine by : Zhaohui Wu
Download or read book Modern Computational Approaches to Traditional Chinese Medicine written by Zhaohui Wu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-10-22 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognized as an essential component of Chinese culture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is both an ancient medical system and one still used widely in China today. TCM’s independently evolved knowledge system is expressed mainly in the Chinese language and the information is frequently only available through ancient classics and confidential family records, making it difficult to utilize. The major concern in TCM is how to consolidate and integrate the data, enabling efficient retrieval and discovery of novel knowledge from the dispersed data. Computational approaches such as data mining, semantic reasoning and computational intelligence have emerged as innovative approaches for the reservation and utilization of this knowledge system. Typically, this requires an inter-disciplinary approach involving Chinese culture, computer science, modern healthcare and life sciences. This book examines the computerization of TCM information and knowledge to provide intelligent resources and supporting evidences for clinical decision-making, drug discovery, and education. Recent research results from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Informatics Group of Zhejiang University are presented, gathering in one resource systematic approaches for massive data processing in TCM. These include the utilization of modern Semantic Web and data mining methods for more advanced data integration, data analysis and integrative knowledge discovery. This book will appeal to medical professionals, life sciences students, computer scientists, and those interested in integrative, complementary, and alternative medicine. Interdisciplinary book bringing together Traditional Chinese Medicine and computer scientists Introduces novel network technologies to Traditional Chinese Medicine informatics Provides theory and practical examples and case studies of new techniques

Book Synopsis Identifiability and Regression Analysis of Biological Systems Models by : Paola Lecca
Download or read book Identifiability and Regression Analysis of Biological Systems Models written by Paola Lecca and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book presents the objectives of, and the latest techniques for, the identifiability analysis and standard and robust regression analysis of complex dynamical models. The book first provides a definition of complexity in dynamic systems by introducing readers to the concepts of system size, density of interactions, stiff dynamics, and hybrid nature of determination. In turn, it presents the mathematical foundations of and algorithmic procedures for model structural and practical identifiability analysis, multilinear and non-linear regression analysis, and best predictor selection. Although the main fields of application discussed in the book are biochemistry and systems biology, the methodologies described can also be employed in other disciplines such as physics and the environmental sciences. Readers will learn how to deal with problems such as determining the identifiability conditions, searching for an identifiable model, and conducting their own regression analysis and diagnostics without supervision. Featuring a wealth of real-world examples, exercises, and codes in R, the book addresses the needs of doctoral students and researchers in bioinformatics, bioengineering, systems biology, biophysics, biochemistry, the environmental sciences and experimental physics. Readers should be familiar with the fundamentals of probability and statistics (as provided in first-year university courses) and a basic grasp of R.
