Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the beginning, there were only dragons and The Divine. The Divine granted dragons dominion over the world, and they lived uncontested as sophisticated apex predators. Then men shinnied down from the trees. At first, they saw dragons as gods, and all was well. Then Quetzalcoatl, eldest of the drakena, began to meddle in mankind's evolution. She taught men how to think and to reason. She taught them ways other than fear. In return, men usurped the Divine's favor and began to hunt dragons down like beasts. The drakena went into hiding. The drakes fought back with tooth, nail, and fire, but could not withstand humanity's superior numbers. By the end of the fourth age, the few surviving males were all in hiding, too. Now, in the waning days of the fifth age, Tezcatlipoca, the eldest surviving drake sees his chance to re-establish himself as the world's supreme being. Aided by his chief ally, Rasputin, he summons drakes from around the world to his hidden compound and persuades them to join him in his quest. Two dragons, however, oppose his plan: his meddlesome older sister, Quetzalcoatl, and an ambitious lesser drake who has his own designs on the next age.The conspiracy is real. The fate of humanity is at stake. Which ancient grudge will prevail

Book Synopsis A Very British Conspiracy by : Eileen Turnbull
Download or read book A Very British Conspiracy written by Eileen Turnbull and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1973 a group of North Wales building workers were arrested for picketing-related offences during the first and only national building workers strike in Britain the year before. It was a turning point for halting the growth of trade unionism in the building industry, from which it has never recovered. A Very British Conspiracy is the first book to tell the full story of how the state prosecuted these workers and the campaign that was established to overturn this miscarriage of justice. Eileen Turnbull uncovers government and police documents that reveal the careful planning of the prosecution of the 24 men. She forensically reveals how the state used the criminal justice system to secure convictions. It analyses how, in the absence of hard evidence, the Police and prosecution went to extraordinary lengths to criminalise trade unionists. The premature death of the lead picket, Des Warren, was the catalyst for a group of North West trade unionists and several of the pickets to come together in 2006 to organise a campaign to achieve justice. In March 2021, the convictions were finally quashed by the Court of Appeal. The book describes how the pickets and their families felt after forty-eight years being ostracised and considered as criminals in their communities, as well as the response of the Campaign committee members who had brought this historic victory about.

Book excerpt: In 1576, Queen Elizabeth of England ordered Captain Francis Drake on a three-year mission to pirate gold, silver, and precious jewels from King Phillip of Spain. Over four hundred years later, the heirs to Drake's marauders are still fighting over a fortune. Enter attorney Conrad Olsen. He has grown tired with the practice of law, when Daniel Fletcher comes asking for help to find the lost treasure. Against his better judgment, Conrad agrees to represent Daniel Fletcher, the distant relative to Father Francis Fletcher - the expedition's priest. What comes next completely alters Conrad's life and rewrites the history of western civilization. Set against the backdrop of the 2016 Presidential election, Conrad's investigation into Drake's hidden treasure reveals a world of deceit, double dealing, and his father's possible involvement in a covered-up murder in 1979.

Book Synopsis Conspiracy Theories and the Failure of Intellectual Critique by : Kurtis Hagen
Download or read book Conspiracy Theories and the Failure of Intellectual Critique written by Kurtis Hagen and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conspiracy Theories and the Failure of Intellectual Critique argues that conspiracy theories, including those that conflict with official accounts and suggest that prominent people in Western democracies have engaged in appalling behavior, should be taken seriously and judged on their merits and problems on a case-by-case basis. It builds on the philosophical work on this topic that has developed over the past quarter century, challenging some of it, but affirming the emerging consensus: each conspiracy theory ought to be judged on its particular merits and faults. The philosophical consensus contrasts starkly with what one finds in the social science literature. Kurtis Hagen argues that significant aspects of that literature, especially the psychological study of conspiracy theorists, has turned out to be flawed and misleading. Those flaws are not randomly directed; rather, they consistently serve to disparage conspiracy theorists unfairly. This suggests that there may be a bias against conspiracy theorists in the academy, skewing “scientific” results. Conspiracy Theories and the Failure of Intellectual Critique argues that social scientists who study conspiracy theories and/or conspiracy theorists would do well to better absorb the implications of the philosophical literature.
