Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last thing covert operative Mitch Weaver wants is to be partnered with a gorgeous, reckless newbie. Still reeling from the death of his former partner, Mitch doesn't need the responsibility of keeping anyone else alive, especially when they volunteer to be a killer's target. Not to mention, his attraction to the too-perky blonde is the kind of distraction that could get them both killed in their line of work. Andrea Carnegie's first assignment isn't going quite as she planned. Her partner might be sexy but he's completely frustrating with his determination to keep her out of danger. Masquerading as a billionaire's sister to bait a possible killer is her chance to shine. But if she wants to catch the person threatening their client, she’ll have to find a way to work together with Mitch while still keeping her distance. Even as the air between them sizzles, Andrea knows the worst possible thing she could do is fall for her partner.

Section 3 discusses the transformation potential towards sustainable logistics using the food sector as an example. Section 4 focuses on strategic decision making in SCM, and how long-term improvements of sustainability performance can be achieved. Section 5 concludes with policy recommendations as well as research and innovation perspectives for future sustainable development with SCM and logistics.
Book Synopsis Coalitions of the Willing and International Law by : Alejandro Rodiles
Download or read book Coalitions of the Willing and International Law written by Alejandro Rodiles and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-30 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global action and regulation is increasingly the result of the interplay between formality and informality. From the management of State conduct in international security to the coordination of national policies in climate change, international organizations work ever closer with coalitions of the willing. This book carefully describes this dynamic game, showing that it consists of transformative orchestration strategies and quasi-formalization processes. On the institutional plane, coalitions of the willing turn into 'durable efforts', while international organizations perform as 'platforms' within broader regime complexes. On the normative level, informal standards are framed in legal language and bestowed with the force of law, while legal norms are attached to multilayered schemes of implementation, characterized by pragmatic correspondences, persuasion tactics, and conceptual framing. Understanding how this interplay alters the notion of 'international legality' is crucial for the necessary recalibrations of the political ideals that will inform the rule of law in global governance.

Book Synopsis Gear-Shifting Leadership by : Leon Cai
Download or read book Gear-Shifting Leadership written by Leon Cai and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawn from his experience as the executive dean of Wilner Sales and Leadership Institute, Leon Cai shares his proven philosophy and methods for improving leadership skills among middle and high-level managers. Leon is one the top ten most influential trainers in China winning “Honor China Award” and is a leading figure in China’s training and consulting industry. Gear-Shifting Leadership, now in its Second Edition, is a book designed to improve leadership ability of practicing managers and addresses the full spectrum or panorama of what is expected from successful leaders. Managers need to grasp more than just one or two aspects of leadership, but the whole content and complete framework of it. Gear-Shifting Leadership, Second Edition provides the concepts, tools, and examples needed for managers to become effective leaders. Updated with new examples and tools, this second edition of Gear-Shifting Leadership synthesizes dozens of leadership models, and fully displays "the panorama of leadership." The author demonstrates the panorama by showing the links and connections between different parts of leadership. The book displays the four gears and nineteen components of leadership managers need to develop. The four gears are: Followership, Face-to-face Leadership, In-Direct Leadership, and Organizational Executive Leadership. • Followership refers to the ability of leaders to win the trust from subordinates, superiors, and counterparts through demonstrative self-management. • Face-to-face Leadership demonstrates the leaders’ ability to drive, encourage, instruct, manage, control, and develop direct subordinates and core teams. It exhibits leaders’ one-on-one leadership abilities targeted at their direct subordinates. • Indirect Leadership shows the leaders’ influence and driving power towards indirect subordinates and the whole team, and it can be defined as the leaders’ role in managing the team as a whole. • Organizational Executive Leadership shows leaders’ acute insight of the dynamic changes in their organizations, and the leaders’ ability to optimize their own approach to managing the team and in so doing, adapt to changes in both the internal and external environment of organizations. The book walks readers through each gear as well as the several components it comprises. Many leadership books have excellent concepts and ways of thinking, but lack practical sheets, models and tools, so that books of this type can only improve leaders themselves and can’t be widely used in their organizations. Gear-Shifting Leadership illustrates the model, tables, evaluation questionnaires, and simplified tools that will make the material in this book practical and applicable.

Book Synopsis Smile of Discontent by : Eileen Gillooly
Download or read book Smile of Discontent written by Eileen Gillooly and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1999-06-15 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like sex, Eileen Gillooly argues, humor has long been viewed as a repressed feature of nineteenth-century femininity. However, in the works of writers such as Jane Austen, George Eliot, Elizabeth Gaskell, Anthony Trollope, and Henry James, Gillooly finds an understated, wryly amusing perspective that differs subtly but significantly in rhetoric, affect, and politics from traditional forms of comic expression. Gillooly shows how such humor became, for mostly female writers at the time, an unobtrusive and prudent means of expressing discontent with a culture that was ideologically committed to restricting female agency and identity. If the aggression and emotional distance of irony and satire mark them as "masculine," then for Gillooly, the passivity, indirection, and sympathy of the humor she discusses render it "feminine." She goes on to disclose how the humorous tactics employed by writers from Burney to Wharton persist in the work of Barbara Pym, Anita Brookner, and Penelope Fitzgerald. The book won the Barbara Perkins and George Perkins Award given by the Society for the Study of Narrative Literature.

Book Synopsis Handbook on Complexity and Public Policy by : Robert Geyer
Download or read book Handbook on Complexity and Public Policy written by Robert Geyer and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-29 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Over recent years Complexity Science has revealed to us new limits to our possible knowledge and control in social, cultural and economic systems. Instead of supposing that past statistics and patterns will give us predictable outcomes for possible actions, we now know the world is, and will always be, creative and surprising. Continuous structural evolution within such systems may change the mechanisms, descriptors, problems and opportunities, often negating policy aims. We therefore need to redevelop our thinking about interventions, policies and policy making, moving perhaps to a humbler, more 'learning' approach. In this Handbook, leading thinkers in multiple domains set out these new ideas and allow us to understand how these new ideas are changing policymaking and policies in this new era.' - Peter M Allen, Cranfield University, UK
