Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching and Learning the West Point Way is a unique compendium of the best teaching and learning practices from one of the most celebrated and storied undergraduate teaching and learning environments and institutions in America – the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, USA. Drawing on the broad academic curriculum that the students follow at West Point – in addition to military leadership, character development, and competitive athletics – this book describes proven and effective undergraduate pedagogy across a number of academic disciplines. Case studies, strategies and techniques, empirical teaching and learning research results, syllabi, and assignments developed and deployed by West Point faculty are included, which faculty in other higher education institutions can adapt and apply to their own programs and courses. An accompanying companion website provides additional syllabi, course guides, lesson plans, PowerPoint activities, and lecture slides, as well as videos of the editors and authors discussing how key concepts in their chapters might be applied in different teaching and learning contexts. This is an opportunity to gain an in-depth insight into the programs and practices inside one of the world’s premier leadership development and educational institutions. It should appeal to new and experienced faculty and administrators interested in course creation and syllabus design across a wide range of disciplines in educational institutions and military academies across the globe.

It is compiled of documents coming from various researchers at universities around the world as well as military officers devoted to the sector of study. Book Synopsis The Best School by : James L. Morrison, Jr.
Download or read book The Best School written by James L. Morrison, Jr. and published by . This book was released on 2003-09-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes not only the curriculum and administration but also the social, military, and bureaucratic aspects of West Point. The Civil War was a war between West Pointers. All of the top commanders on both sides were graduates of the U.S. Military Academy -- Ulysses S. Grant vs. Robert E. Lee, William T. Sherman vs. Joseph Johnston, William S. Rosecrans vs. Braxton Bragg -- the list is long. Hence what these men learned and did not learn at West Point, and how that institution influenced their characters and attitudes, is of cardinal importance in understanding the war they fought and how they fought it. Carefully delineates the context in which a significant public institution of higher education operated, and the external pressures which shaped it.

Book Synopsis Cadet Life at West Point by : Hugh T Reed
Download or read book Cadet Life at West Point written by Hugh T Reed and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-14 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was not more than eight years old when I first heard about West Point, and then I was told that it was Uncle Sam's Military School; that the young men there were called cadets; that they were soldiers, and that they wore pretty uniforms with brass buttons on them. The impression made upon me at the time was such that I never tired talking and asking questions about West Point. I soon learned to indicate the site on the map, and I longed to go there, that I might be a cadet and wear brass buttons. I talked about it so much that my good mother made me a coat generous with brass buttons. I called it my cadet coat, and wore it constantly. Ah! for the day I should be a big boy and be a real cadet. With a wooden gun I played soldier, and when the war broke out and the soldiers camped in our old fair grounds, I was in their camp at every opportunity. The camp was about half-way between our home farm and father's store in town, and many is the time I have been scolded for being so much at the camp. My only regret at that time was that I was not old enough to enlist, for I loved to watch the drills and linger around the camp-fires, listening to stories of the war.
