Book excerpt: Warrior Pharaoh is a work of historical fiction that tells the story of the life and deeds of Pharaoh Thutmose II (1480–1426 B.C.) of Egypt, one of the greatest political and military leaders of the ancient world. Written by one of America’s premier military historians, the attention to historical detail is exceeded only by the story’s fast pace and riveting adventure as the author tells the tale of Thutmose’s early life, rise to power, defeat of his enemies, and rule over Egypt in the 15 century B.C. The portrayal of life, love and war in ancient Egypt offers a historical tale of human adventure from which the reader will learn much about how best, from the personal perspectives of those who lived and made it.

Book excerpt: The true story of the dramatic life and times of the controversial female Pharaoh Hatshepsut- the first great woman in recorded human history to ever rule the world and the legendary mighty warrior Pharaoh Thutmose III. Ancient East African history: 3,500 years ago with the sudden death of his father the divine ruling Pharaoh of Kemet (Egypt) during the 18th Dynasty, though a child of unnoble birth, born of one of the Pharaoh's lesser wives, Thutmose III was to ascend the throne and rule the world. In an unexpected turn of events, with the backing of the religious temple hierarchy and an alleged claim of divine endorsement from Amon Re, his throne is quickly seized by his crafty, powerful, ambitious, stepmother- Hatshepsut. Herself of royal blood, she next audaciously dressed up and posed as a man, defied the traditions of the age, actually declared herself God, claimed that she was born of immaculate conception and became the first and only female Pharaoh in history instead.

Book excerpt: THE AMU The Amuthis Asiatic race which invaded and conquered ancient Egypt during a time of cosmic upheaval, then enslaved most of Egypt for over four hundred years. It seems probable that in 1491 BC, a large asteroid hit the earth but did not reach the ground but bounced off our atmosphere. Beneath it, it would have created an explosion as great as one hundred Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding simultaneously. It was this that created the volcanic eruptions and tsunamis which did so much damage. It was at this time when Egypt was beset with such terrible cosmic damage that Moses and the Hebrews made their exit and the time when the Amu entered an Egypt paralysed and at their mercy. It has been assumed for a long time that this Amu invasion occurred around 2000 BC. Yet the Bible seems to indicate that Moses and the Israelites fled Egypt around 1500 BC. Thus we must deduct some five hundred years from events stated as happening so much earlier. There are of course many more reasons for assuming this fact. Then some four hundred years later, a rebellion by Upper Egypt, and later, Pharaoh Ahmose and Thutmose I freed Egypt from the Amu and went on to crown Princess Makere Hatshepsut as the only female pharaoh. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his long reign (1279-1213 BC), Ramesses II left his mark on ancient Egypt, bringing prosperity, justice and order in a golden age during which cultural life thrived. As a builder he created spectacular monuments - the two temples at Abu Simbel, the royal city of Piramesse and the Ramesseum, his mortuary temple, whose ruins inspired Shelley's poem, Ozymandias. As a warrior, Ramesses the Great expanded Egyptian sovereignty from Nubia in the south to Syria in the west. Drawing upon original government documents of the royal offices, as well as the magnificent record of his military victories and religious rites, recounted in wall paintings, bas-reliefs and colossal statues, this book builds up a picture of this exceptional pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty, who did so much to shape Egypt.

Book excerpt: A fresh look at the British Museum's celebrated and extensive ancient Egyptian collection from across three thousand years Pharaoh: King of Ancient Egypt introduces readers to three thousand years of Egypt's ancient history by unveiling its famous rulers--the pharaohs--using some of the finest objects from the vast holdings of the British Museum, along with masterworks from the collection fo the Cleveland Museum of Art.. In an introductory essay, Margaret Maitland looks at Egyptian kingship in terms of both ideology and practicality. Then Aude Semat considers the Egyptian image of kingship, its roles and its uses. In ten additional sections, Marie Vandenbeusch delves into themes related to the land of ancient Egypt, conceptions of kingship, the exercise of power, royal daily life, war and diplomacy, and death and afterlife. Detailed entries by Vandenbeusch and Semat cover key works relating to the pharaohs. These objects, beautifully illustrated in 180 photographs, include monumental sculpture, architectural pieces, funerary objects, exquisite jewelry, and papyri. The rulers of ancient Egypt were not always male, or even always Egyptian. At times, Egypt was divided by civil war, conquered by foreign powers, or ruled by competing kings. Many of the objects surviving from ancient Egypt represent the image a pharaoh wanted to project, but this publication also looks past the myth to explore the realities and immense challenges of ruling one of the greatest civilizations the world has seen.
