This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reverberator was published in 1888 and was somewhat of a departure for Henry James as it is both lighter and easier to read than some of his other works. It was a short comedic novel, a satire on the manners and ways of Americans as innocents abroad and not the least, the means the media uses to sell newspapers (James based it on a case of irresponsible reporting in Florence). It first appeared in print in Macmillan's Magazine. It came out in book form later the same year in both London and New York. The title name refers to a gossipy newspaper that employs one George Flack, its ambitious reporter in Paris. He wants to see The Reverberator become a large international publication. One of GeorgeĆs friends is pretty Francie Dosson, whom he has designs on himself. Francie, however, soon becomes engaged to Gaston Probert, an American by birth.

Book excerpt: Henry James's beloved masterpiece, now in a beautiful hardcover edition featuring James's groundbreaking essay "The Art of Fiction," with a foreword by acclaimed novelist Brandon Taylor A Penguin Vitae Edition The Portrait of a Lady is regarded by many as Henry James's finest work, and a lucid tragedy exploring the distance between money and happiness. When Isabel Archer, a beautiful, spirited American, is brought to Europe by her wealthy Aunt Touchett, it is expected that she will soon marry. But Isabel, resolved to enjoy the freedom that her fortune has opened up and to determine her own fate, does not hesitate to turn down two eligible suitors. Then she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Gilbert Osmond. Charming and cultivated, Osmond sees Isabel as a rich prize waiting to be taken. Beneath his veneer of civilized behavior, Isabel discovers cruelty and a stifling darkness. In this portrait of a "young woman affronting her destiny," Henry James created one of his most magnificent heroines, and a story of intense poignancy.

This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1880 Washington Square was published simultaneously in serialized form in both the United States and England. Very quickly it appeared in book form before the end of the year. It is one of James' shorter novels. By the time it was published Henry James was already at work on The Portrait of a Lady and showed no great enthusiasm for Washington Square. He excluded the latter work from his 1908 New York Edition of collected works. The story is told by an omniscient narrator. The story is well structured and relatively straight forward in its style. It is a tale of a young woman restricted by her class and times, who is dominated by her father.

She Represents, In Many Ways, Specifically American Values And Pays The Price For A Specifically American Type Of Mistake. Isabel Archer Aspires To A Life Which Will Transcend, In Freedom And Range Of Experience, That Which European Young Women Of Her Day Were Brought Up To Expect. Her Whole Approach To Life Raises Questions Which, In Her Age, Relate To The Role Of Young Women Everywhere. The Story Of What Happens To Her Has The Scale Of Interest That Belongs To Women In All Ages, And Isabel Could Well Be Described As A Woman For All Seasons. He was the son of Henry James, Sr. and the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James. James alternated between America and Europe for the first 20 years of his life, after which he settled in England, becoming a British subject in 1915, one year before his death. He is primarily known for the series of novels in which he portrays the encounter of Americans with Europe and Europeans. His method of writing from the point of view of a character within a tale allows him to explore issues related to consciousness and perception, and his style in later works has been compared to impressionist painting. -wikipedia
