Book excerpt: Since the Brit Chadasha in Yirmeyeh 31:31-34 was given to Orthodox Jews (the passage is found in the Hebrew Bible, is it not?), and since most Orthodox Jews are in New York City, particularly Brooklyn it seems, then it surely must also be appropriate to make available a translation of the Brit Chadasha from the best original manuscripts in language devoid of goyishe (and non-frum) style. The following is a passage from this new translation, specifically from "The Besuras haGeulah According to Mattityahu (Matthew)" chp 28:19-20, and is illustrative of what we at AFII are doing and what we believe:

This version uses the Whole Chapter Bible in a Year© format. The dates are generic; if you start in the middle of the year, it just continues to the next numerical day, it does not rely on starting on January first. This daily version covers the Tanakh, Tehillim twice, Mishlei, (one a day), and the Brit Chadasha. The Besuras HaGeulah and Gevurot ARE read through twice, and a one a day chapters of Mishlei are adjusted according to the number of days in each month.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition includes more than 4,800 resources available at more than 10,000 Internet sites that provide information on a range of biblical study topics including Bible translations in English and other languages, audio translations of the Bible in English and other languages, commentaries, dictionaries, and other resource materials including ones in Greek, Hebrew and other ancient languages. The author also has adopted a new method of referencing and cataloging the most widely used web pages to facilitate a major expansion of resources without increasing the physical length of the book itself. In cases when ten or more resources are listed on a single web page, the author has assigned the web page a three-digit code. The code is used to identify this web page as a major resource within the main text, while any needed instructions for use of the site are cross-referenced separately in the final chapter. In adopting this concise method, the author was able to add hundreds of additional or updated web resources, a surprising number of which can be downloaded onto a hard drive for immediate and continued use.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laments and complaints are among the most ancient poetical forms and ubiquitous in everyday speech. Understanding plaintive language, however, is often prevented by the resentment and fear it evokes. Lamenting and complaining seems pointless, irreconcilable, and destructive. Language of Ruin and Consumption examines Freud's approaches to lamenting and complaining, the heart of psychoanalytic therapy and theory, and takes them as guidelines for reading key works of the modern canon. The re-negotiation of older--ritual, dramatic, and juridical--forms in Rilke, Wittgenstein, Scholem, Benjamin, and Kafka puts plaintive language in the center of modern individuality and expounds a fundamental dimension of language neglected in theory: reciprocity is at issue in plaintive language. Language of Ruin and Consumption advocates that a fruitful reception of psychoanalysis in criticism combines the discussion of psychoanalytical concepts with an adaptation of the hermeneutical principle ignored in most philosophical approaches to language, or relegated to mere rhetoric: speech is not only by someone and on something, but also addressed to someone.

Book excerpt: The author of The Gospel of Inclusion continues to rouse organized religion as he raises controversial issues and provides enlightening answers to the deepest questions about God and faith. What is God? Where is God? Who is the one true God? Questions such as these have driven a thousand human struggles, through war, terrorism, and oppression. Humanity has responded by branching off into multiple religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam—each one pitted against the other. But it doesn’t have to be that way. In God Is Not a Christian, nor a Jew, Muslim, Hindu . . . , the provocative and acclaimed Bishop Carlton Pearson follows up on his celebrated first book, The Gospel of Inclusion, to tackle these questions and many more, exploring new ideas about God and faith and putting forth the stunning assertion that God belongs to no particular religion but is an ever-loving presence available to all. For these beliefs, Bishop Pearson lost his thriving Pentecostal ministry but was catapulted instead into a greater pulpit. His readership has grown through appearances on national television and an extensive speaking schedule. With the world in the midst of a holy war, there is no better time for the wisdom of Bishop Pearson to reach a global audience. Bishop Pearson’s many loyal fans, along with new readers, will surely welcome this provocative and eye-opening exploration of a deeper faith, one that goes far beyond any fundamentalist way of thinking, be it Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc. Simply put, Bishop Pearson dares to tell the truth so many others are too afraid to face.

Book excerpt: The Apocalypse of Enoch and Bhuśunda The Apocalypse of Enoch and Bhuśunda challenges the underlying assumptions of the classical roots of civilization by restoring the original context of creation mythology. In this second volume of A Chronology of the Primeval Gods and the Western Sunrise, ancient myths from multiple geographies are correlated to spikes in cosmic rays over the past 120,000 years – as documented in ice core data. The chronology and content of these myths tell us that the primary forces behind these cataclysms were the most ancient gods - hyper-nova at the Galactic Center associated with Sgr A*(The Dragon), Sgr West (The Beast) and Sgr East (Hiranyâksha and Hiranyakas'ipu), with secondary supernova seen as the birth of new, destructive gods. Ancient myth has documented the cataclysmic destruction of the world on at least twenty occasions with four major geo-polar migrations, which has resulted in a shift of the earth’s equator on at least one occasion. Multiple myths are shown to represent a view of the sky that can only be seen from the Antarctic region. Multiple versions of the myths of Orion are analyzed, showing clear linkages between the Vedic myth of Trisanku, the Book of Genesis, Senmut's Tomb, and the myths of Prajāpati Daksa representing the oldest version of the Orion myth – older than Trishanku and Genesis by 20,000 years! The stunning conclusion explains how the “Watchers” of Enoch were the Vedic descendants of Ila and Iksvaku. These descendants of the seventh Manu had been observing and recording the stars as a source of cataclysm for at least 15,000 years prior to Enoch, thus allowing Enoch to prophesize a ‘new heaven.’ That prophecy became the foundation for St John’s Book of Revelations, which is shown to be a description of a series of cataclysms attributed to Sgr West. The book offers a new theory for explaining geo-polar migration. That theory suggests small shifts in the location of the earth’s center of gravity underlie each migration, but that there are multiple causes for the shifts.

A Land Like Your Own will interest anyone involved in biblical studies (students and scholars alike) through its wide-ranging array of topics, highlighting how interconnected the many biblical studies subdisciplines truly are.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An event of theological "time-travel" back to the beginning, back to the biblical creation story in Genesis chapters 1-3. We will learn some Hebraic details about a larger-than-life seven-day Messianic redemption plan. We will encounter a multi-dimensional world of reality and metaphor. We will come to learn that the biblical creation story is a detailed Hebraic narrative about the Creation referred to in the Hebrew text of Exodus 3:14-15 as יהוה אלהים (YHVH Elohim) and his deep desire for a relationship with each of us; that after all the creation was plunged into a deep spiritual darkness, he (the Creator named in Exodus 3:14-15) was the one that came to set us free from our spiritual captivity because we had no power to set ourselves free. Genesis chapters 1-3 is an extraordinary historical riches-to-rags-to-riches story unlike anything that one can even begin to imagine. Learn Hebraic definitions for faith, hope, love, holiness, heaven, earth, and other theological ideas often lost in translation. Learn about the biblical functions of male and female. Learn the Hebraic truth and context behind Genesis 3:16, "Your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you." Learn about the "marriage" between the Serpent and Eve. Learn Hebraic principles behind giving and receiving to build strong relationships. Learn about a "High Priest" cherub who rebelled in the throne-room of Heaven and morphed to become the Serpent (the Satan) of the Bible. Meet the Word, the Son of Elohim (God) in Heaven. Meet the Word, the Son of Elohim (God) on Earth. Discover the two Genesis creations of man (Day 3 and Day 6) and learn why Yeshua (Jesus) had to resurrect on the Third Day. Discover the Hebraic meaning of the Law of Sin and Death. Learn about DNA quantum entanglement and the second death of Genesis 2:17. Discover the background that drives Paul's theology about the "Works of the Law" and "Under the Law" in the New Testament Book of Galatians. These concepts and so much more packed into this introduction to the Genesis Creation Story.

Using evangelism, ethics and eschatology as dividing sections, Jewsand the Gospel at the End of History produces profound insights of the besttheologians, exegetes, and historians who especially understand theJewish-Christian tensions. Many Jewish, Messianic Jew, and Christian issues areseamlessly broached in this volume and are woven together expertly andbeautifully. There are no easy solutions and this book can attest to thesensitivities of Jewish-Christian dialogue, but this book does a great serviceto the reader to bring them to a greater understanding of how, what, and why ofevangelism, ethics, and eschatology.

In this pioneering study, Dan Cohn-Sherbok traces the development of the Messianic movement from ancient times to its transformation after World War II. Focusing on the nature of the movement today, the volume continues with a detailed examination of Messianic practices, and the place of Messianic Judaism within the contemporary Jewish community.
