Rocky comes from a long line of rock stars! Uncle Gibraltar, Aunt Etna, and Great-Grandma Half Dome are just some of the legendary rock formations he calls family. It's no wonder he wants to matter in a big way too--but it's not easy trying to get a foothold. Rocky gets tossed by The Wave and driven away at Devil's Tower--but he's determined not to allow these pitfalls to chip away at his confidence. Rather than feeling crushed, he keeps on rolling, hoping to become the rock-star he knows he's meant to be.
Book Synopsis The Book of Ezekiel, Chapters 25–48 by : Daniel I. Block
Download or read book The Book of Ezekiel, Chapters 25–48 written by Daniel I. Block and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1998-06-19 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work completes Daniel Block's two-volume commentary on the book of Ezekiel. The result of twelve years of studying this difficult section of Scripture, this volume, like the one on chapters 1-24, provides an excellent discussion of the background of Ezekiel and offers a verse-by-verse exposition that makes clear the message of this obscure and often misunderstood prophet. Block also shows that Ezekiel's ancient wisdom and vision are still very much needed as we enter the twenty-first century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a tribute to my second oldest daughter, Cherie. She inspired me to write this story. It takes a special character for people to notice one, good or otherwise. She has been such an inspiration not only to her two children but also to all of us that have an open mind, to choose not to judge, but to take one for what they really are. To some, she will be an inspiration for her love and kindness or maybe for her love for music or the love she has for the outdoors and those magnificent mountains that she so dearly loves. But to me, as her father, it runs a little deeper than that. I see her as a person that has not chosen a path in life that has led her on the road that others have paved the way but has chosen instead to blaze a trail and accept the easy times with the hard times and make the best of it. For such a little person, her tolerance of fear is so high, and that may be because of the way she sees things in life. There is no doubt she guides her life in a little different way than most of us. Her positive attitude makes her what she is. I gave this story the name I did because she loves so many of the same things that I do, yet she came in such a small package and has done such a good job of it.

This book was released on 2023-12-30 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Chip Off the Old Block and Cleaver: A Memoir, A Cookbook, A Dollop of Poetry" represents the first foray into book writing by this author; it is the completed realization of at least one of my personal pipe dreams picked off before my demise. I discovered that, during the course of writing the memoir portion, I actually had a lot of living to look back on with a semblance of pride and a fair share of variety, given my experiences as a proud Western New Yorker by birth, with an even more interesting smorgasbord of work experiences once moving REALLY upstate to Lake Placid. I became a Jersey guy upon graduation from college (in Ohio) and embraced the Garden State as my new home, and found it just as hospitable and appealing as The Empire State had been. I discovered my professional niche while working in a well-regarded private psychiatric hospital and fell in love with being part of the healing which transpired there. In the past 10+ years since full-time retirement I have endeavored to capitalize on the food funnery by writing the recipes I had collected over so many years, and spreading the wealth, as it were, to anyone who loves to cook good, unostentatious grub. I thought I might just as well add the lyrical musings amassed over the years as a cherry on the top of the recipes. The only question remaining: will people appreciate a life journal, a handful of recipes, and some fine arts literature all in the same book? That remains to be seen. Here's hoping.

Book Synopsis Black on the Block by : Mary Pattillo
Download or read book Black on the Block written by Mary Pattillo and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-04-02 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Black on the Block, Mary Pattillo—a Newsweek Woman of the 21st Century—uses the historic rise, alarming fall, and equally dramatic renewal of Chicago’s North Kenwood–Oakland neighborhood to explore the politics of race and class in contemporary urban America. There was a time when North Kenwood–Oakland was plagued by gangs, drugs, violence, and the font of poverty from which they sprang. But in the late 1980s, activists rose up to tackle the social problems that had plagued the area for decades. Black on the Block tells the remarkable story of how these residents laid the groundwork for a revitalized and self-consciously black neighborhood that continues to flourish today. But theirs is not a tale of easy consensus and political unity, and here Pattillo teases out the divergent class interests that have come to define black communities like North Kenwood–Oakland. She explores the often heated battles between haves and have-nots, home owners and apartment dwellers, and newcomers and old-timers as they clash over the social implications of gentrification. Along the way, Pattillo highlights the conflicted but crucial role that middle-class blacks play in transforming such districts as they negotiate between established centers of white economic and political power and the needs of their less fortunate black neighbors. “A century from now, when today's sociologists and journalists are dust and their books are too, those who want to understand what the hell happened to Chicago will be finding the answer in this one.”—Chicago Reader “To see how diversity creates strange and sometimes awkward bedfellows . . . turn to Mary Pattillo's Black on the Block.”—Boston Globe
