Along the way, kids learn about uniforms and etiquette; practice the most frequently used strikes, kicks, blocks, and forms; and unlock the basics of martial arts physics. The curriculum is highly interactive, inviting readers to answer questions and solve puzzles. Book Synopsis Hong Kong Martial Artists by : Daniel Miles Amos
Download or read book Hong Kong Martial Artists written by Daniel Miles Amos and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This imaginative and innovative study by Daniel Miles Amos, begun in 1976 and completed in 2020, examines sociocultural changes in the practices of Chinese martial artists in two closely related and interconnected southern Chinese cities, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The initial chapters of the book compare how sociocultural changes from World War II to the mid-1980s affected the practices of Chinese martial artists in the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong and neighboring Guangzhou in mainland China. An analysis is made of how the practices of Chinese martial artists have been influenced by revolutionary sociocultural changes in both cities. In Guangzhou, the victory of the Chinese Communist Party lead to the disappearance in the early 1950s of secret societies and kungfu brotherhoods. Kungfu brotherhoods reappeared during the Cultural Revolution, and subsequently were transformed again after the death of Mao Zedong, and China’s opening to capitalism. In Hong Kong, dramatic sociocultural changes were set off by the introduction of manufacturing production lines by international corporations in the mid-1950s, and the proliferation of foreign franchises and products. Economic globalization in Hong Kong has led to dramatic increases both in the territory’s Gross Domestic Product and in cultural homogenization, with corresponding declines in many local traditions and folk cultures, including Chinese martial arts. The final chapters of the book focus on changes in the practices of Chinese martial arts in Hong Kong from the years 1987 to 2020, a period which includes the last decade of British colonial administration, as well as the first quarter of a century of rule by the Chinese government.

Book Synopsis Life Ki-Do Parenting by : Jonathan Hewitt
Download or read book Life Ki-Do Parenting written by Jonathan Hewitt and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the tremendous pressure and influence of peers and media today, children are being conditioned to follow the American Happiness Formula: look good + perform well + get approval = happiness. Yet rather than offering fulfillment and confidence, this outwardly based quest is causing alarming rates of childhood stress, anxiety, and depression. Life Ki-do Parenting provides the antidote, giving you the techniques to help your child find true and lasting happiness from within. Integrating twenty years of experience teaching life skills and martial arts to thousands of children, twenty-five years of mindfulness and meditation study, and data and research from modern psychology and neuroscience, Jonathan Hewitt developed the Tools for Life system, made up of four powerful components: River Check-in for improving focus River Effort for building confidence and a strong sense of self A-B Formula for developing resilience when facing life's challenges My Shoes, Your Shoes, Our Shoes for cultivating social intelligence These four original tools empower children with the critical skills they need to thrive today and into adulthood. Going beyond concept and theory, they give you kid-friendly vocabulary and a simple process for helping your children look inward to monitor themselves rather than looking outward to others for their validation and self-worth. What greater peace can you have as a parent than knowing you have given your child the roots and wings to successfully navigate their way through life?

Download or read book X-Plan Parenting written by Bert Fulks and published by Howard Books. This book was released on 2019-06-11 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Gold Medal for Best Christian Family and Parenting Book of 2020 by the Illumination Book Awards The creator of the viral parenting concept the “X-Plan” illuminates the importance of awakening your child’s unique strength—while also taking an introspective look at your own life story to become a better parent. Last year, father and former teacher Bert Fulks’s simple parenting idea went viral: if your teenagers find themselves in a situation where they feel uncomfortable or trapped, they can text a family member an “X.” That family member will then call, giving the teen a way out, while still maintaining their freedom—and no questions will be asked. Now in X-Plan Parenting, Fulks expands on the how and the why behind his plan, emphasizing the importance of developing trusting relationships with our kids. Drawing on biblical principles, Fulks’s approach illuminates how even though we want the very best for our children, we sometimes parent from a place of brokenness and a desire for control rather than support and encouragement. We focus on our mistakes and painful growing up moments and the things we wish we’d had when we were kids instead of what’s best for our own children right now. This dynamic can pit kids against their parents and create rifts in the relationship. Fulks advocates for an alliance between children and parents instead of an “us vs. them” mentality. Rather than spending so much time coaxing or battling our kids, Fulks inspires us to work with our kids instead of against them. And rather than trying to right our own past wrongs vicariously through our children, he urges us to recognize where we need healing so we can provide authentic strength to support our kids’ unique journeys. There is a tender art to disciplining our kids, and X-Plan Parenting serves up laughter and tears, hard questions, and plenty of grace to moms and dads who want their kids to love God and lead passionate, joyful lives in an unpredictable world.

Fully indexed and updated, this edition covers the same topics as the First and Second editions but with new information for 2021 onwards. The book begins by examining key mistakes teachers make in the 'direct realm' - i.e. when interacting face-to-face with students. Following this, the book expansively covers a range of tips, techniques and tools to engage advanced, exam-level learners and to effectively enhance the teaching process via the use of technology. The book concludes with an often overlooked sphere of teaching: how to work effectively with colleagues and parents (very powerful when strategized correctly). Bonus material on the unique challenges of teaching overseas is provided in a plenary chapter. This edition of the book has been exhaustively proofread and indexed, and is of a much-higher quality than can be attributed to the First and Second editions.
Book Synopsis Small Dojo Big Profits by : Mike Massie
Download or read book Small Dojo Big Profits written by Mike Massie and published by . This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a decade, Small Dojo Big Profits has guided martial arts instructors through the risky yet highly rewarding process of starting and running a highly successful and profitable martial art school. Eschewing the conventional wisdom that says you must have a huge school with 300 or more students to be financially successful, the author instead shows you how to take on less risk while working smarter and not harder by running a lean, mean, efficient martial arts studio operation. Author Mike Massie has started three successful martial arts studios from scratch, and has the distinction of opening his first studio with no start-up capital, zero credit, and in a town where he was a complete stranger. Yet, he was able to go from teaching in part-time locations to running his own full-time studio in under a year, and he achieved this while staying in profit from month one. The process he followed is the same one this book is based upon, and this updated version of Small Dojo Big Profits also draws on the author's experience in starting and growing two more successful studios during the recent mortgage crisis and economic recession. A common sense martial arts school start-up and business operations manual, this completely updated version of the classic martial arts business guide is perfect for anyone who wants to maintain their integrity while building a successful martial art school. If you're looking for the best source of complete information for starting, launching, growing, and running a martial art school from scratch, this is it.
