Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fruit Situation, Vol. 53: May 1941 If the marketing season is normal this year, increased ourehasing power of consumers probably will more than offset the adverse effect on prices of increased supplies. Incomes of industrial workers (a measure of consumer money demand) are currently running about 30 percent higher this year than last, but it is too early to make an estimate of the production of peaches in the major competing late States. G/ In the past, however, the production of peaches in the late States has been fairly closely related to that in the 10 Southern States. This relationship may be somewhat distorted this year because of the severe cold wave last November which killed many peach trees in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and western Illinois, and seriou ly damaged many others.
