Book excerpt: The performance appraisal process is often considered one of the most important numan resource systems as it is viewed as an instrument for personal development and performance improvement. Performance appraisal is typically achieved by subjectively evaluating an employee's performance on a set of behavioral criteria. However, there is a current dearth of experimental research assessing the impact of subjective performance evaluation and feedback on behavior change and objective outcome measures. The goal of the present experiment is to overcome limitations of previous research, using an experimental design to assess the effects of feedback and development planning on behavior change and objective group performance.
