Book Synopsis Novel Strategies for the Synthesis of Tungsten(VI) and Molybdenum(VI) Imido/Oxo Alkylidene NHC Complexes and Their Application in Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization by : Janis Musso
Download or read book Novel Strategies for the Synthesis of Tungsten(VI) and Molybdenum(VI) Imido/Oxo Alkylidene NHC Complexes and Their Application in Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization written by Janis Musso and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2022-05-12 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, the synthesis of neutral and cationic group(VI) imido/oxo alkylidene N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes that tolerate protic functional groups and aldehydes was reported. Unprecedented turnover numbers of up to 1.2 million were found for their silica-supported representatives. Some group(VI) alkylidene NHC complexes even display stability towards moisture and air. Coordination of the NHC to tungsten imido bistriflate precursor complexes, however, can lead to undesired side reactions. This work consequently aimed at the development of novel, more efficient routes to neutral and cationic tungsten imido/oxo alkylidene NHC complexes. In addition, some molybdenum imido alkylidene NHC complexes were targeted. Thereby, the scope of synthetically accessible complexes was broadened and, subsequently, their reactivity in ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) was probed. Those complexes were used as thermally latent initiators for the ROMP of dicyclopentadiene. Precise determination of the onset temperature of polymerization was achieved via monitoring with differential scanning calorimetry. Furthermore, the selectivity of novel complexes was tested for the formation of stereoregular polymers through ROMP of enantiomerically pure norbornene derivatives, which allowed for the synthesis of up to 98% trans-isotactic or cis-syndiotactic polymers depending on the steric demand of the imido and the alkoxide ligand.

Book Synopsis Organometallic Chemistry by : E W Abel
Download or read book Organometallic Chemistry written by E W Abel and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book excerpt: Presents the most innovative results in carbene chemistry, setting the foundation for new discoveries and applications The discovery of stable carbenes has reinvigorated carbene chemistry research, with investigators seeking to develop carbenes into new useful catalysts and ligands. Presenting the most innovative and promising areas of carbene research over the past decade, this book explores newly discovered structural, catalytic, and organometallic aspects of carbene chemistry, with an emphasis on new and emerging synthetic applications. Contemporary Carbene Chemistry features contributions from an international team of pioneering carbene chemistry researchers. Collectively, these authors have highlighted the most interesting and promising areas of investigation in the field. The book is divided into two parts: Part 1, Properties and Reactions of Carbenes, explores new findings on carbene stability, acid-base behavior, and catalysis. Carbenic structure and reactivity are examined in chapters dedicated to stable carbenes, carbodicarbenes, carbenes as guests in supramolecular hosts, tunneling in carbene and oxacarbene reactions, and ultrafast kinetics of carbenes and their excited state precursors. Theoretical concerns are addressed in chapters on computational methods and dynamics applied to carbene reactions. Part 2, Metal Carbenes, is dedicated to the synthetic dimensions of carbenes, particularly the reactions and catalytic properties of metal carbenes. The authors discuss lithium, rhodium, ruthenium, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, cobalt, and gold. All the chapters conclude with a summary of the current situation, new challenges on the horizon, and promising new research directions. A list of key reviews and suggestions for further reading also accompanies every chapter. POPE AND ACHIM MULLER Department of Chemistry, Georgetown University, Washington, DC 20057-2222, U.S.A.; Department of Chemistry, University of Bielefeld, D-4BOO Bielefeld 1, F.R.G. Polyoxometalates, from their discovery and early development in the final decades of the 19th century to their current significance in disciplines as diverse as chemistry, mathematics, and medicine, continue to display surprisingly novel structures, unexpected reactivities and applications, and to attract increasing attention worldwide. Most of the contributors to the present volume participated in the workshop held at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Bielefeld, July 15-17, 1992. The choice of topics illustrates some of the variety of directions and fields in which polyoxometalates can play an important role. Although many of the leading polyoxometalate research groups are represented here, we regret that time constraints, financial limitations, and in some cases difficulties of communication did not allow us to include significant and imp- tant work from other groups outside Europe and North America. In the following we briefly review the current status of the field of po- oxometalates.
