Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop Whining and Start Winning: The Power of Life's Choices is an invaluable guide for anyone who no longer wants to live the life of a whiner, but would rather experience the life of a winner. Author Joel Christiansen suggests that whiners are life's drainers and takers, and that whining is so toxic it can mutate and spread from person to person. Gone untreated, it becomes a hazardous landfill of negativity and despair, which only results in pessimism and failure. In clear, simple and easy to understand language, Christiansen points out that winners are life's enhancers and givers who create positive energy and success through optimism and hope. Stop Whining and Start Winning: The Power of Life's Choices is an excellent resource for anyone who has reached his or her misery level index with whining, and has a desire for a more purposeful, peaceful and prosperous life. "A terrible tragedy and waste is when a whiner fails to see and understand the negative ripple effect their whining creates."-Joel Christiansen Joel Christiansen also wrote the book Out of the Ashes the Resurrection of an Addict. Book excerpt: Are you ready to end the whining wars in your house? It starts with a whimper, an insistent demand, or a certain tone of voice that every parent recognizes with dread -- your child is starting to whine, and if you don't respond properly you'll have a full-blown tantrum or argument on your hands. Kids of all ages know that whining works when they want that extra hour of TV, the unplanned toy purchase, or a later curfew. But stopping such behavior without giving in to a child's demands isn't easy, and if left unchecked, whining can lead to constant disruptions at home, in school, or anywhere else your child chooses. Now the same authors who solved a common parenting problem in the national bestseller Backtalk present three proven methods for putting an end to whining, as well as information on * The best ways to react when your child whines in a public place * Why negotiating and giving in never work -- and what you should do instead * What kids are really trying to tell you when they whine * Why whining can lead to poor self-esteem and unsatisfying social relationships -- which can follow your child into adulthood -- and what you can do about it now * How to clearly, respectfully indicate to your child what's important to you and why whining will no longer work as a means of communication Filled with numerous real-life examples, encouraging advice, and simple steps you can start using immediately, this invaluable guide will help you end the cycle of giving in to whining only to have your child do it again, and instead replaces misbehavior with effective, meaningful, and loving parent-child communication.

Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller offer a thorough program for establishing honor as a basis of family life — not just children honoring parents, but parents respecting children and children honoring each other. Even if honor seems a long way off in your household, you will find practical suggestions here to bring that goal a little closer — suggestions for kids of all ages. Honor is the biblical value that will bring about good behavior. It’s more than just changing what kids do; it’s changing the deeper issues of the heart that triggered the behavior.

Book excerpt: Democrats are pulling out all their stops to defeat President Trump and Republicans, and now they’re getting desperate. First came the screaming—“We have to do something!” Then came the whining—“This is a national disgrace!” It’s too politically useful for them to not rail at whatever they can, from the Kavanaugh nomination to the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy. For provocative radio host Ben Shapiro, the “voice of conservative millennials,” these tactics have made a circus out of American politics, and Trump is not the star performer. Read all about the acts under the big top in this collection of his 2018 syndicated columns.

When Wendell has one of those days where nothing seems to go his way, his mom helps him understand that everything in life doesn't have to be a contest and losing does not make you a loser. In fact, it can make you stronger! She also points out that although it feels great to celebrate a win, winning isn't everything, and whining about things just makes it worse. "Whiners aren't winners, and winners never whine. You can't win at everything all of the time!" This creative story addresses two very challenging topics: winning and whining.

Book excerpt: The pairing of a business consultant with a Division I head coach may seem unusual, but management consulting has many lessons to bring to coaching. Conversations between friends connected by their love of volleyball developed into innovative ideas about how coaches can run the "business" component of their program, stay connected with their players, and elevate their team's success. Over the past five years, the authors have worked together to bring select concepts and tools from the world of business into the University of Utah's volleyball program. We have presented our approach to numerous coaches' groups, and, based on the positive feedback from coaches at all levels, we have decided to collect these concepts and tools into this book. Many coaches share a similar career trajectory. They started as players, entered coaching as a volunteer assistant coach or as a director of operations, earned promotion to assistant coach, and, eventually, were hired into a head coaching role. What they learned along the way depended on who they had to learn from. If they were fortunate to learn from great thinkers and communicators, they were well prepared when their turn came to run a program. If they had less capable teachers, they had to learn by trial and error and by developing on their own their approach to managing a program. But no matter how effective the coaches they trained under, they learned lessons from inside the world of their sport. Because of this, many coaches have similar bodies of knowledge. A given coach may be better or worse than their competition, but they are all drawing from the same storehouse of ideas.Winning as a coach requires incorporating ideas wherever you can find them and blending those which make sense to you into your program to make it more effective and more efficient. If you can access relevant ideas and tools from outside of coaching (whether from business, politics, healthcare, charity, volunteer work, or other fields), you will provide yourself with lasting competitive advantages.
