Es folgten Jahre intensiven Weiterbaus bis zum Todesjahr 1944. Durch widrige Um sHinde, Krankheit und Krieg, kamen Mallys Erkenntnisse nicht zu brei terer Wirkung. Urn so erfreulicher ist es, daB im Jahre des 25. Todestages und 90. Geburtstages ein Kreis Interessierter zusammenfand, urn ein Opus postumum MalIys, ein groBes logisches Fragment, von Mally einmal Schwanberger Logik genannt, herauszugeben, das in den letzten Lebens jahren des Philosophen entstand. Auf Anregung von Professor Dr. Roderick M. Chisholm (Brown University, Rhode Island) wird gleich zeitig auch ein 'basic work' der Deontik, Mallys Grundgesetze des Sol/ens aus dem Jahr 1926, im Neudruck publiziert. Damit ist auch Gelegenheit gegeben, eine erste zusammenfassende Darstellung uber die Philosophie Mallys mit Schriftenverzeichnis etc. zu veroffentlichen, so daB diese Edition auch als Gedenkschrift fUr Mally gelten kann.

Book excerpt: Phenomenology as practised by Adolf Reinach ( 1883-191 7) in his all too brief philosophical career exemplifies all the virtues of Husserl's Logical Investigations. It is sober, concerned to be clear and deals with specific problems. It is therefore understandable that, in a philosophical climate in which Husserl's masterpiece has come to be regarded as a mere stepping stone on the way to his later Phenomeno logy, or even to the writings of a Heidegger, Reinach's contributions to exact philo sophy have been all but totally forgotten. The topics on which Reinach wrote most illuminatingly, speech acts (which he called 'social acts') and states of affairs (Sachverhalte ), as well as his realism about the external world, have come to be regarded as the preserve of other traditions of exact philosophy. Like my fellow contributors, I hope that the present volume will go some way towards correcting this unfortunate historical accident. Reinach's account of judgements and states of affairs, an account that precedes those of Russell and Wittgenstein, his 1913 treatment of speech acts, his reinter pretation of Hume and aspects of his legal philosophy are the main philosophical topics dealt with in what follows. But his analysis of deliberation as well as his work on movement and Zeno's paradoxes get only a passing mention.

To some, the infamous "Mohammed Cartoons" that were published in September 2005 by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten tested the limits of the freedom of the press. Others regarded them as a malicious and tasteless provocation. And for yet others, they were a welcome excuse for violent protests. The cartoon debate raises a number of questions: What is paramount here, defense of the freedom of the press or mere Islamophobia? Is Western tolerance pitted against Oriental narrow-mindedness, or is this rather an issue of mutual respect and restraint? Was the whole conflict artificially created and inflamed by the media? Do we need to develop a new media ethics of intercultural recognition in the global media culture? And how can we ensure that this respect is mutual and not just laissezfaire tolerance of intolerance?

Im Rahmen einer Auseinandersetzung mit klassischen Positionen aus der Geschichte der Ethik versucht Husserl, die Grundlagen seiner eigenen Ethik zu gewinnen und darin die traditionellen Gegenüberstellungen zu versöhnen. So steht für Husserl die Gefühlsgrundlage der Moral nicht im Widerspruch zur Idee eines absoluten Sollens, an der Husserl im Anschluss an Kant und Fichte festhält. Husserls Ausführungen gipfeln in dem Ideal eines universalen vernunftbestimmten Willenslebens, in dem alle Aktsetzungen endgültig zu rechtfertigen wären. Zur Vorlesung gehört ein umfangreicher Exkurs, in dem Husserl durch eine phänomenologische Analyse des Unterschieds zwischen Sach- und Normbegriffen den wissenschaftstheoretischen Charakter der Ethik als normativer Geisteswissenschaft bestimmt.
