Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently while teaching the Introduction to the New Testament course and discussing how the apostle John presents in his gospel the works of Jesus in exactly seven miracles, which the apostle calls signs, the Lord led me to compare the purpose of the seventh sign the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead with the purpose for our time of two recent events that caught everyone's attention in 2010. I am referring to the earthquake in Haiti, on January 12th, and the confinement and eventual rescue of the 33 miners in the San José mine, in Chile, on October 13th of that same year.Although the apostle acknowledges that the deeds of Jesus were so many that "if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written", he only highlights seven miracles-signs of them. The apostle presents these seven signs as if they were seven great lessons, as in Genesis the seven days of Creation are presented, and he highlights from each of them how God establishes with signs His methodology of operation in the midst of the times. The signs are not chosen at random, they were duly selected as part of a school of the teaching of which His gospel is the textbook.

In the depths of the heart is hidden the secret purpose of creation, which is the key to our present time of transformation. The work of the mystic is to make this key accessible to humanity, and so open the doors of revelation. The possibilities of the future are present but veiled, the joy of life is waiting to return. The mystic can help us to awaken to the oneness that is essential to life, and to recognize the signs of God that will guide us and reveal our true purpose.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Lesslie Newbigin was widely regarded as one of this generation's most significant voices on Christianity in relation to modern society. Now that he is gone, there is a call for his unpublished writings to be made available. To that end "Signs amid the Rubble" gathers some of Newbigin's finest statements on issues of continuing relevance. The first set of chapters consists of the 1941 Bangalore Lectures, in which Newbigin speaks powerfully of the kingdom of God in relation to the modern - severely deficient - idea of "progress." The second group of writings, the Henry Martyn Lectures of 1986, deals mainly with the importance of Christian mission. In the last piece, his address to the World Council of Churches conference on mission and evangelism in Brazil in 1996 - which editor Geoffrey Wainwright calls his "swan song on the ecumenical stage" - Newbigin wonders aloud how future generations will judge today's practice of abortion.

We are brought forth to act out as true Christians but, we fall in between evilness and, shame. Prophecy is a system of a true meaning of serving God to the fullest. When we ignore all things of God we are not wanting to be a part of his true existence. This tells us we must pay attention on how we live our lives. I've had many visions of the spiritual world that has allowed me to become a better judgement of character and, a true meaning of my life. The Bibical days were brought forth to us to be aware and, in tune to the many obstacles that God has brought forth. My visions of the prophet times have been so real to me to understand that what we become is what we shall recieve. Let's begin by paying attention to all of the signs that God is putting right in front of us. My words of truth have made me who I'am today. Let's be open to all the good things in life and,we shall go a long way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the author’s Forwood Lectures for 1995 in the University of Liverpool. The first two chapters incorporate the full text of these and study early Christian conceptions of signs and signification, and investigate the ways in which Christian authors, especially Augustine of Hippo and Gregory the Great, made use of theories of meaning in their ways of interpreting scriptures. Their interest in the notions of communities based on shared traditions of reading, understanding and interpretation is given special attention. Markus also considers the question of the ways in which different approaches to the Bible have had more far-reaching implications for their authors’ world-views: to what extent biblical hermeneutics helped to shape their hermeneutics of experience. Their differing ways of approaching the Bible is related to the huge change in Christian self-understanding between Augustine (c. AD 400) and Gregory the Great (c. 600): ascetic habits of reading come to shape a general response to the world as well as to the biblical text. The lecture texts are complemented by further chapters devoted specifically to the theory of signs and meaning, and to some of its applications in special contexts, such as magic and ritual.

Book excerpt: "God Signs" truly is the Bible in a nutshell. Rich, descriptive scriptures of the Ampli ed Bible are connected with narrative to form a mosaic depicting God's revealed purpose in creating the universe. God has given us the Bible so we will know why we are here, and how we fit into the overall scheme of His design. Didn't He know that Adam and Eve would go astray and produce a world lled with pain, violence and suffering? How could He have been motivated by love e name of Jesus Christ is exalted as "God Signs" underscores the Bible's answers to these questions. An allegorical description of the plan of salvation is included in the introduction. The chapters that follow discuss God's purpose in creation and the promises He has made to mankind and to the individual. If God's promises are enough, why did He give Abraham a promise and an oath? What must one do to inherit the ful llment of God's promises? The answers as revealed in the lives of Abraham, Moses and others are discussed. These answers are then supported in detail by unfolding the prophetic mysteries of the mandatory ancient Hebrew feasts and their relationship to the examples and commandments of Jesus Christ. The reader is challenged to cooperate with Jehovah God, and thus receive the intended eternal inheritance.

Book excerpt: Signs of God reveals why discussion of the nature of miracles is of central rather than marginal importance where belief in God is concerned. Miracles cannot be shunted to one side as an embarrassing hangover from a 'pre-scientific age'. Miracles have played an important role in the history of all the major world religions, and many religious believers claim that they continue to do so. Yet they have also been criticized from a philosophical viewpoint as incompatible with a belief in laws of nature, and those who seek to have their religious beliefs properly attuned to the modern world often prefer to do without them. This accessible book examines the nature of miracles both in philosophical and historical terms, and concludes that, whether or not miracles happen, it is difficult to see how religious belief could survive without them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking work of first-order scholarship, Eric Johnson makes a vitally important contribution to the field of Christian counseling. He first presents a detailed overview and appreciative but critical evaluation of the reigning paradigms in the field of Christian counseling, particularly biblical counseling and integration. Building on their respective strengths, he seeks to move beyond the current impasse in the field and develop a more unified and robustly Christian understanding. Drawing upon the Bible and various Christian intellectual and soul care traditions, and through a Christian reinterpretation of relevant modern psychological theory and research, Johnson proceeds to offer a new framework for the care of souls that is comprehensive in scope, yet flows from a Christian understanding of human beings--what amounts to a distinctly Christian version of psychology. This book is a must-read for any serious Christian teacher, student, or practitioner in the fields of psychology or counseling.
