Book excerpt: Hi, I'm Keshav, and my life is screwed. I hate my job and my girlfriend left me. Ah, the beautiful Zara. Zara is from Kashmir. She is a Muslim. And did I tell you my family is a bit, well, traditional? Anyway, leave that. Zara and I broke up four years ago. She moved on in life. I didn't. I drank every night to forget her. I called, messaged, and stalked her on social media. She just ignored me. However, that night, on the eve of her birthday, Zara messaged me. She called me over, like old times, to her hostel room 105. I shouldn't have gone, but I did... and my life changed forever. This is not a love story. It is an unlove story. From the author of Five Point Someone and 2 States, comes a fast-paced, funny and unputdownable thriller about obsessive love and finding purpose in life against the backdrop of contemporary India.

Book Synopsis Brain Landscape The Coexistence of Neuroscience and Architecture by : John P. Eberhard
Download or read book Brain Landscape The Coexistence of Neuroscience and Architecture written by John P. Eberhard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brain Landscape: The Coexistence of Neuroscience and Architecture is the first book to serve as an intellectual bridge between architectural practice and neuroscience research. John P. Eberhard, founding President of the non-profit Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture, argues that increased funding, and the ability to think beyond the norm, will lead to a better understanding of how scientific research can change how we design, illuminate, and build spaces. Inversely, he posits that by better understanding the effects that buildings and places have on us, and our mental state, the better we may be able to understand how the human brain works. This book is devoted to describing architectural design criteria for schools, offices, laboratories, memorials, churches, and facilities for the aging, and then posing hypotheses about human experiences in such settings.

Book Synopsis The Irish Smuggler by : Brian B. Kelly
Download or read book The Irish Smuggler written by Brian B. Kelly and published by ibooks. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Irish Smuggler is a rare find. Both a literary oeuvre and a gripping page turner. Highly readable in either context.” —Alexander Campion, author of the Capucine Culinary Mysteries “The Irish Smuggler is a multi-layered yarn of intrigue and adventure on a global scale. Stories that emerge from ‘The Troubles,’ tend to be rich in passion and adrenalin. Brian Kelly has invested The Irish Smuggler with a rich count of both.” —Stewart Meyer, author of The Lotus Crew and soon to be published, The Heist Broker “The Irish Smuggler is a great yarn! Well-written, well-researched, highly cinematic—and highly recommended.” —Rory O’Connor, author of Friends, Followers and the Future “Any Harvard graduate can write a book but only Brian Kelly could have written this thrilling adventure, The Irish Smuggler. It cries out for the big screen or a mini-series for the smaller screens around the world.” —Sergei V. Skvortsov, President of Phoenix Films, the leading prime-time television producer in Russia The Irish Smuggler is an adventure story which pits Padraic Egan and three other IRA volunteers, friends from childhood, against all comers as they smuggle arms into Ireland and global cannabis crops into the United States. Taking on the British Army, Afghan mujahidin, a seafaring hippy commune, Russian and Chechen gangsters, Soviet police and the American DEA, not to mention mother nature, their adventures are twisted and changed as continual opposition and obstruction force them to adapt. The reader will meet Afghan mujahidin as they fight a Soviet Army of monumentally superior force. Spanning a stretch of time from 1975 in Ireland to 1991 in New York, much of the story takes place in the heart of 1990 Afghanistan and across the USSR in its final weeks and days in 1991.

Book Synopsis The Effects of Early Social-Emotional and Relationship Experience on the Development of Young Orphanage Children by : The St. Petersburg-USA Orphanage Research Team
Download or read book The Effects of Early Social-Emotional and Relationship Experience on the Development of Young Orphanage Children written by The St. Petersburg-USA Orphanage Research Team and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-27 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undertaken at orphanages in Russia, this study tests the role of early social and emotion experience in the development of children. Children were exposed to either multiple caregivers who performed routine duties in a perfunctory manner with minimal interaction or fewer caregivers who were trained to engage in warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate interactions during routine care. Engaged and responsive caregivers were associated with substantial improvements in child development and these findings provide a rationale for making similar improvements in other institutions, programs, and organizations.
