Book Synopsis Materials and Crystallographic Aspects of HTc-Superconductivity by : E. Kaldis
Download or read book Materials and Crystallographic Aspects of HTc-Superconductivity written by E. Kaldis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductors with high critical temperatures are extremely complex and it remains difficult to synthesize high quality samples. In this regard, the materials and crystallographic aspects, drawing together the fields of structural chemistry and physics, solid state chemistry and physics, and applications and properties, both for cuprate and organic superconductors, play a vital role in our understanding of the phenomenon. Among other things, the contributions to local structural elucidation contained in the present work will shatter the reader's prejudices concerning the idealized average structure.
Book Synopsis Quantum Monte Carlo Methods in Condensed Matter Physics by : Masuo Suzuki
Download or read book Quantum Monte Carlo Methods in Condensed Matter Physics written by Masuo Suzuki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews recent developments of quantum Monte Carlo methods and some remarkable applications to interacting quantum spin systems and strongly correlated electron systems. It contains twenty-two papers by thirty authors. Some of the features are as follows. The first paper gives the foundations of the standard quantum Monte Carlo method, including some recent results on higher-order decompositions of exponential operators and ordered exponentials. The second paper presents a general review of quantum Monte Carlo methods used in the present book. One of the most challenging problems in the field of quantum Monte Carlo techniques, the negative-sign problem, is also discussed and new methods proposed to partially overcome it. In addition, low-dimensional quantum spin systems are studied. Some interesting applications of quantum Monte Carlo methods to fermion systems are also presented to investigate the role of strong correlations and fluctuations of electrons and to clarify the mechanism of high-c superconductivity. Not only thermal properties but also quantum-mechanical ground-state properties have been studied by the projection technique using auxiliary fields. Further, the Haldane gap is confirmed by numerical calculations. Active researchers in the forefront of condensed matter physics as well as young graduate students who want to start learning the quantum Monte Carlo methods will find this book useful.

Book Synopsis Computer Simulation in Materials Science by : M. Meyer
Download or read book Computer Simulation in Materials Science written by M. Meyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects the contributions! to the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) held in Aussois (France) by March 25 - April 5, 1991. This NATO ASI was intended to present and illustrate recent advances in computer simulation techniques applied to the study of materials science problems. Introductory lectures have been devoted to classical simulations with special reference to recent technical improvements, in view of their application to complex systems (glasses, molecular systems . . . ). Several other lectures and seminars focused on the methods of elaboration of interatomic potentials and to a critical presentation of quantum simulation techniques. On the other hand, seminars and poster sessions offered the opportunity to discuss the results of a great variety of simulation studies dealing with materials and complex systems. We hope that these proceedings will be of some help for those interested in simulations of material properties. The scientific committee advises have been of crucial importance in determining the conference program. The directors of the ASI express their gratitude to the colleagues who have participated to the committee: Y. Adda, A. Bellemans, G. BIeris, J. Castaing, C. R. A. Catlow, G. Ciccotti, J. Friedel, M. Gillan, J. P. Hansen, M. L. Klein, G. Martin, S. Nose, L. Rull-Fernandez, J. Valleau, J. Villain. The main financial support has been provided by the NATO Scientific Affairs Division and the Commission of European Communities (plan Science).

This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of Localisation 2011, a satellite conference of the 26th International Conference on Low Temperature Physics (LT26), comprise both invited and contributed papers that discuss the latest progress on localisation phenomena. The main topics include quantum transport in disordered systems (Anderson localisation, effects of interactions on localisation, Anderson-Mott transition, mesoscopics), the superconductor-insulator transition, quantum Hall effects (fractional and integer), topological insulators, graphene, dynamical localisation, heavy fermions (Kondo effect, Kondo lattice, effects of disorder), and many body localisation (spin-glass, Coulomb glass). The volume is also dedicated to Professor Bernard Coqblin, former CNRS Directeur de Recherche and a Honorary Chairman of the AMS-APCTP Conference Localisation 2011, whose contribution to condensed matter theory will always be remembered.
Book Synopsis The Superconducting State in Magnetic Fields by : Carlos A. R. Sa de Melo
Download or read book The Superconducting State in Magnetic Fields written by Carlos A. R. Sa de Melo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an exciting collection of short review articles written by leading international experts on the superconducting state in magnetic fields, a rapidly developing area. The philosophy of the book is to emphasize the importance of having experimental and theoretical works side by side. Every effort has been made to match each experimental article with a corresponding theoretical article. The selection of materials includes special topics, new effects and new trends concerning superconductors in low and high magnetic fields. The special topics and new trends include quantum and classical melting of the vortex lattice, new vortex lattice symmetries, vortex core states, nonlinear Meissner effect, symmetry of the order parameter in high-temperature superconductors, and superconductors in high magnetic fields. The book is targeted at a broad audience, including graduate students, postdocs and other researchers active or interested in this field.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity by : V.P. Mineev
Download or read book Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity written by V.P. Mineev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-09-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unconventional superconductivity (or superconductivity with a nontrivial Cooper pairing) is believed to exist in many heavy-fermion materials as well as in high temperature superconductors, and is a subject of great theoretical and experimental interest. The remarkable progress achieved in this field has not been reflected in published monographs and textbooks, and there is a gap between current research and the standard education of solid state physicists in the theory of superconductivity. This book is intended to meet this information need and includes the authors' original results.
