Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Apprentice Training: With Special Reference to the Engineering Industry The services employed in industry comprise a number of grades, which may be divided into two broad classes, consisting of manual and non-manual workers. Important as is the latter, it is the former which at the present time demands the greater attention. Different industries in a community present certain distinguishing features, and although there is considerable local variation in manufacturing conditions, similar fundamental considerations apply to all industries in all countries. These involve the selection of workers for particular positions according to inherent suitability, and their education and training along lines tending to produce greatest economy of working. It is the purpose of this book to inquire into these considerations in so far as they affect the skilled manual worker. Attention is paid principally to conditions in England and to workers engaged in engineering manufacture, but the general treatment and conclusions apply universally. Of the four parts into which the book is divided, the first deals with the place of the manual worker in industry and the economic importance of training to the individual, to the community, and to the State. In the second part the characteristics demanded from a worker by virtue of a manual occupation are set forth, and the extent to which these are developed by the existing educational system is discussed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook brings together and promotes research on the area of vocational education and training (VET). It analyzes current and future economic and labor market trends and relates these to likely implications for vocational education and training. It questions how VET engages with the growing power of human development approaches and with the sustainable development agenda. Equity and inclusion are discussed in a range of ways by the authors and the consideration of the construction of these terms is an important element of the handbook. It further addresses both the overall notion of system reform, at different scales, and what is known about particular technologies of systems reform across a variety of settings. Vocational learning and VET teacher/trainer education are discussed from a comparative perspective. National and comparative experiences are also shared on questions of equity and efficiency in funding in terms of those that fund and are funded, and for a range of funding methodologies. As well as reviewing existing gaps, this handbook is looking forward in identifying promising new directions in research and environment. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apprenticeships can offer apprentices, their teacher-tutors and business apprenticeship supervisors experiences that are rich in knowledge. The Success of Apprenticeships presents the observations and opinions of 48 actors regarding apprenticeships. These testimonies recount how apprenticeships allowed them to improve their expertise, their professional practices and their organization skills. This book also examines how their interactions in the work/study process allowed them not only to develop the skills of apprentices, but also the skills of those who accompanied them – the teacher-tutors and the business apprenticeships supervisors. The creation of an authentic community of apprentices subscribes to the formation of an ecosystem of learning, in which each individual harvests fruits in terms of the development of their personal abilities.
