This new publication is an extension of The Winds of Change , that traced the development of the American wind band/ensemble in the twentieth century. This book covers all the important conferences, concerts, events, initiatives, and compositions created for wind bands/ensembles during the first decade of the twenty-first century. In gathering information for this book, the author examined hundreds of scores, listened to dozens of recordings, attended conferences, interviewed wind band/ensemble director-conductors, and surveyed numerous professional journals and magazines. The result is a book that provides a panorama view of the American wind band/ensemble scene from 2000-2010.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades the global wind energy industry has undergone explosive growth, and there is still vast potential for wind to supply more of the world's energy. Though not only is wind power far from reaching its potential, its rise has been uneven and irregular. What factors influence the development of the wind energy industry, and why has it developed successfully in some places but not in others? In Winds of Change, Ion Bogdan Vasi argues that the development of wind energy is dependent not only on improvements in technology and economic forces, but also in large part on the efforts of the environmental movement. Vasi defines and analyses three pathways through which the environmental movement has contributed to industry growth: it has influenced the adoption and implementation of renewable energy policies, created consumer demand for clean energy, and changed the institutional logics of the energy sector. Vasi uses quantitative analysis to present the big picture of global wind power development, and qualitative research to understand why certain countries are world leaders in wind energy while others are relatively underdeveloped. Through interviews with renewable energy professionals and campaigners, he shows that environmental groups and activists participated actively in energy policymaking, pressured various organizations to purchase wind power, and formed new companies that specialized in wind-farm development. He also demonstrates that environmentalists contributed to wind turbine manufacturing by becoming entrepreneurs, innovators, and advocates. Winds of Change sheds much new light on how wind energy is adopted and why, and demonstrates how activists and social movements can contribute to the creation of new industries.

Jacob lost the will to care when he lost the one thing that ever mattered to him—his beloved Gwen. When he's thrown back into his childhood home and discovers that Gwen lives again, he's more than willing to take on the Black Queen to win a chance at a lifetime with his beloved. Greer is a cursed warrior, called back from the darkness of death to serve in the battle between good and evil. Only once did she live as a woman free of their control. And, as a result, an entire kingdom fell. Now, called back to face the three witches who cursed her to never-ending reincarnation, she must also face the only man who ever held her heart and chance losing him when he learns she is not the princess he once knew. In Jacob's opinion, waking up to face a mage more ancient than his legend is bad. Waking up and facing a woman who looks like the one he'd given his heart to, yet who claims she isn't that woman, is even worse. When the mage and the warrior-girl decide he should be the next king of the Vampires, he knows he should head back to his adopted realm. The only thing stopping him is the need for revenge—and a woman who might not be a princess but the one who owns his heart, nevertheless.

"A breathtaking world and an excellent epic fantasy series! This wonderful adventure reminds me of a cross between J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Tad Williams, and C. S. Lewis." "Clear and simple prose. Swift, action-oriented scenes. Solidly built." --Foreword Magazine "This guarantees fans, and those fans will be ready to wield their swords against the Dark Lord in Stanek's next installment." -- VOYA, the leading magazine for YA librarians "Word of mouth turned it into a bestseller. Very satisfying." -- The Fantasy Guide Discover a magical world and be swept away in the adventure of a life time! After the Great War that divided the peoples, the five kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 hundred years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man or device, shall be cleansed to dust. From their thrones, the kings watched as creatures born of magic were hunted to extinction by heroes chosen to honor their clans in the blood games. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond. The one hope of the peoples of Ruin Mist was Queen Mother, the elf queen of old. She saw a way out of everlasting darkness, a path that required the union of the divided peoples. Book excerpt: Following Never Again and Having It So Good, the third part of Peter Hennessy's celebrated Post-War Trilogy 'By far the best study of early Sixties Britain ... so much fun, yet still shrewd and important' The Times, Books of the Year Harold Macmillan famously said in 1960 that the wind of change was blowing over Africa and the remaining British Empire. But it was blowing over Britain too - its society; its relationship with Europe; its nuclear and defence policy. And where it was not blowing hard enough - the United Kingdom's economy - great efforts were made to sweep away the cobwebs of old industrial practices and poor labour relations. Life was lived in the knowledge that it could end in a single afternoon of thermonuclear exchange if the uneasy, armed peace of the Cold War tipped into a Third World War. In Winds of Change we see Macmillan gradually working out his 'grand design' - how to be part of both a tight transatlantic alliance and Europe, dealing with his fellow geostrategists Kennedy and de Gaulle. The centre of the book is 1963 - the year of the Profumo Crisis, the Great Train Robbery, the satire boom, de Gaulle's veto of Britain's first application to join the EEC, the fall of Macmillan and the unexpected succession to the premiership of Alec Douglas-Home. Then, in 1964, the battle of what Hennessy calls the tweedy aristocrat and the tweedy meritocrat - Harold Wilson, who would end 13 years of Conservative rule and usher in a new era. As in his acclaimed histories of British life in the two previous decades, Never Again and Having it so Good, Peter Hennessy explains the political, economic, cultural and social aspects of a nation with inimitable wit and empathy. No historian knows the by-ways as well the highways of the archives so well, and no one conveys the flavour of the period so engagingly. The early sixties live again in these pages.

Book excerpt: Follows the adventures of Talia as she travels the land as a Herald of Valdemar in the second book in the classic epic fantasy Arrows trilogy Talia could scarcely believe that she had finally earned the rank of full Herald. Yet though this seemed like the fulfillment of all her dreams, it also meant she would face trials far greater than those she had previously survived. For now Talia must ride forth to patrol the kingdom of Valdemar, dispending Herald's justice throughout the land. But in this realm beset by dangerous unrest, enforcing her rulings would require all the courage and skill Talia could command—for if she misused her own special powers, both she and Valdemar would pay the price!
