Book Synopsis Heroes and Villains of New Mexico by : Bud Russo
Download or read book Heroes and Villains of New Mexico written by Bud Russo and published by Sunstone Press. This book was released on 2019-09-07 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of these tales are about genuine heroes. Some are about dastardly villains. Others you’ll have to decide for yourself: hero or villain? You’ll recognize these people, even if you don’t remember their names. They are Spanish colonials, Mexicans, and Anglos all the way to the present. They are even aboriginal Americans predating the arrival of Europeans. These are personal tales—gossip, you might say—and, when you finish a story, if you’re like me, you’ll be able to say, “I didn’t know that!” Now, don’t you think knowing the quirks and grit of those who peopled the pages of your history textbooks—rather than all those dates and places—is more interesting? The author always thought so. After a dozen years writing travel stories about New Mexico, he undertook writing yarns of adventure, intrigue, failure, and even death. Open the book to Elfego Baca’s story and learn why one Mexican had no fear of American cowboys. Or how Navajo Chester Nez, who was denied the right to speak his native language, used Navajo words to help win World War II. Or even how the haughty wife of a colonial governor was falsely denounced to the Inquisition as a Crypto-Jew. Fact or imagination? Sometimes it’s hard to know which it is, but these, at least, are true life episodes. Includes Readers Guide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about Knights Templar who visited northern New Mexico sometime in the period of 1200 AD to 1400 AD and left two mysterious obelisk shaped stones in a most obscure location high in the mountain foothills of Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in New Mexico at 13,000 feet in elevation. (Yes, this is some 300 years before Columbus!). The obelisk shaped stones were placed upright in locations near each other. The location of the area is in the Carson National Forest, in a valley known as the "Valle Vidal", Spanish for "Happy Valley". The stones appear to be a type of limestone and are approximately 10 inches X 10 inches X 42 inches tall. On each of the four side of the stones are deeply carved Templar crosses and several Middle Eastern symbols that clearly identify the stones as being of and about the Templar Knights Crusades experience in and around the Temple of Solomon! Are the symbols a treasure map? There appears to be no other explanation why they would have been placed in this obscure location! This book is the result of four years of research by well-known southwest author of over 15 books about New Mexico and the Southwest, Louis F. Serna. The book is sure to become an incredible part of New Mexico history!

Download or read book The 37th Parallel written by Ben Mezrich and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A real-life mix of The X-Files and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Mezrich “writes vividly and grippingly…A terrific story…[that] will make a heck of a movie” (The Washington Post). Here is the “fascinating” (Publishers Weekly) true story of a computer programmer who tracks paranormal events in remote areas of the western United States and is drawn deeper and deeper into a mysterious conspiracy. Like Agent Mulder of The X-Files, microchip engineer and sheriff’s deputy Chuck Zukowski is obsessed with tracking down UFO reports in Colorado. He even takes the family with him on weekend trips to look for evidence of aliens. But this innocent hobby takes on a sinister urgency when Zukowski learns of mutilated livestock—whose exsanguination is inexplicable by any known human or animal means. Along an expanse of land stretching across the southern borders of Utah, Colorado, and Kansas, Zukowski documents hundreds of bizarre incidences of mutilations, and discovers that they stretch through the heart of America. His pursuit of the truth draws him deeper into a vast conspiracy, and he journeys from Roswell and Area 51 to the Pentagon and beyond; from underground secret military caverns to Native American sacred sites; and to wilderness areas where strange, unexplained lights traverse the sky at extraordinary speeds. Inspiring and terrifying, Mezrich’s “dramatic narrative…connects dots we didn’t even know existed…Something’s clearly happening out there in the high meadows and along desert highways” (Kirkus Reviews). The 37th Parallel will make you, too, wonder if we are really alone.

Book excerpt: A Very Large Array is a unique collection of stories by some of the world's foremost science fiction writers. The thread linking these stories together is the fact that [the writers] all live in New Mexico. Some of the stories reflect this -[various titles]. Others are set on distant worlds or on earths so changed by time as to be almost unrecognizable. These stories speak of love and grief and loss and victory, but most of all they speak to that spark in all of us that defines us as human. The introductory essays by the contributors offer their views on why New Mexico is so attractive to writers of science fiction and fantasy, and will provide the reader with fascinating insights into the writers as individuals, perhaps shedding some light on the source of their inspiration.
