The first three chapters discuss methods of supporting students with visual impairments, issues in mainstreaming, and objectives and scope of the study. The study sought to analyze: the availability and appropriateness of mainstream school placements and support services, back-up resources, materials, and equipment; the range and level of difficulty of subject offerings; appropriateness of teaching strategies, difficulties encountered, and support offered to subject teachers; academic and emotional support available for both students and parents; level of competence required by teachers; meeting the social development needs of students; service improvement; and the future. Appendixes contain copies of the interview forms used with students, parents, cooperating teachers, subject teachers, and visual resource staff.
