Ainsi, la réunion du recours grandissant aux informations médicales sur le réseau Internet et du besoin de pouvoir influer sur la décision d'orientation des patients auto-référés nous a conduit à imaginer un outil de télé-orientation dédié. Ce système devrait être capable d'améliorer l'orientation médicale individuelle par gestion de l'urgence ressentie après une analyse de symptômes, afin d'optimiser l'utilisation de l'offre de soin existante. Jusqu'alors, les difficultés de développement de tels systèmes étaient multiples. La principale limite étant que la logique du moteur d'inférence et celle de la base de connaissance reposaient sur un compromis entre facilité d'utilisation et fiabilité. Nous avons donc utilisé les dernières avancées en sciences cognitives pour modéliser un système d'intelligence artificielle au plus près du raisonnement médical humain. Notre étude a ainsi permis de mettre en évidence qu'un système expert informatique avec le médecin comme modèle est fonctionnel et peut apporter une réponse adaptée en matière de télé-conseil et de télé-orientation médicale.
