Book Synopsis Nonlinear Analysis of Structures (1997) by : Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy
Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures (1997) written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.

This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Non-Linear Bending and Buckling of Circular Plates In this paper we consider a thin circular elastic plate of thickness t and radius R subjected either to a uniform lateral pressure, p, or to a uniform edge thrust, f. The first loading situation is referred to as a bending problem and the second as a buckling problem. In both cases only rotationally symmetric deformations will be considered so that all deflections and stresses are functions of a single radial coordinate, r. It is well known that the classical linear theory of plates yields solutions of these problems which are valid only for a limited range of low loads. For larger values of p and f it is necessary to apply non-linear plate theories which allow for finite deflections and account for the interaction of membrane and bending stresses. Thus we employ the von Karman equations [1] which are based on a non-linear theory of elasticity with infinitesimal strains and are valid for flat plates undergoing small but finite displacements. For rotationally symmetric deformations of circular plates these equations reduce to two coupled second order non - linear ordinary differential equations. Book Synopsis Large Deflections of Clamppd Circular Plates Under Initial Tension and Transitions to Membrane Behavior by : Mark Sheplak
Download or read book Large Deflections of Clamppd Circular Plates Under Initial Tension and Transitions to Membrane Behavior written by Mark Sheplak and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The large deflections of a clamped, circular plate are investigated over a wide range of transverse loadings and initial in-plane tension loads. The continuous transition from plate behavior to membrane behavior is described in detail, along with the development of the accompanying edge zone region where properties change rapidly. We give a simple approximation of this edge zone and its properties, provide limits for the validity of small deflection, linear theory, and note the similar effects of large in-plane tension and large transverse loading. The values and trends are presented in general non-dimensional form, and should prove useful for the design of thin circular disks for micro-sensing applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relaxation and successive approximation methods are used to solve Von Karman's equations as applied to initially flat, rectangular plates with large deflections under either normal pressure or combined normal pressure and side thrust, and several specific cases are analyzed. The general method developed may be applied to bending and combined bending and buckling problems with practically any boundary conditions to any required degree of accuracy or applied to solve the membrane theory of the plate which applies when the deflection is very large in comparison with the thickness of the plate.
