Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just before sunrise on Easter morning 1912, in a village just outside the New Jersey Pine Barrens, CLARA JANE LAMB, a wealthy, young and outspoken Suffragette, waits at the ancient altar on the mount--the highest point in the town--for the start of the sunrise service. This is the first sermon to be delivered by PARKER EVANS, the young, new minister in town who is in prime consideration for replacing the retiring PASTOR ADAIR. Clara Jane has been smitten with Pastor Park since his recent arrival in town. At the conclusion of the service, word comes of the grisly murder of an expectant young couple on their way to the service. Over the next several months, HARVEY MEDVILLE, the bitter, middle-aged, assistant pastor who has not only been passed over for promotion, but has been repeatedly rejected in his advances by Clara Jane, begins to stalk her in order to gather evidence that neither she nor Parker is "morally fit" for their town. At the same time, the gruesome killings and a new rash of "Jersey Devil" sightings mount, resulting in a night of pandemonium just before Halloween. Just after, Parker has an emotional breakdown while giving a sermon, where Medville uses the opportunity to present his accusations that Clara Jane is "sinning" with Pastor Park. Their reputations ruined and Parker's chances for replacing Pastor Adair dwindling, Clara Jane and Parker keep a low profile for the rest of the year. Clara Jane continues to quietly pursue the growing more despondent, but also becoming more vulnerable Parker. On the morning after the last full moon of December, Clara Jane finds Parker chained up in a room in his basement. After months of growing suspicions, she deduces that during the phase of the full moon, the creature Parker becomes is responsible for the unresolved killings and "Jersey Devil" sightings. Parker's tragedy endears him even more to her and she professes her intentions to help him with the immense burden he bears. Before New Year's, they secretly marry. Over that winter, the murders and sightings end. Clara Jane keeps Parker well-chained during the nights of the full moon. On Parker's birthday in March, Pastor Adair announces that Parker will officially be replacing him after the Easter sunrise service. Medville, more livid than ever, resumes his stalking. On the eve before Easter, Medville finds Parker chained in his basement just before the rise of the full moon. Thinking that Clara Jane is some sort of sexual dominatrix, before fleeing, he declares his intention "to tell the town" about them at the sunrise service. Angrier than ever, after his transformation into the beast, Parker breaks free again and wreaks havoc like never before. Clara Jane, now pregnant and armed with a silver-bullet filled pistol, pursues Parker throughout the night, arriving at the altar just before dawn, where Pastors Adair and Medville wait. The beast leaps from the woods and destroys Medville, then, its eyes going to her expectant abdomen, leaps at Clara Jane who has no choice but to unload her pistol into him. As the moon sets and the dying Parker transforms, Clara Jane cradles him and he makes one last plea for her to "do something" about her pregnancy, if it's a boy, it will continue to unleash his curse onto the world. At a well-equipped, but secret clinic in the city, Clara Jane decides that she must take the chance that their baby is a girl. Half a year later, on the night of the harvest moon in October, Clara Jane is in the throes of childbirth. Just before sunrise, a nurse presents her daughter to her. Another follows--with her son.

Book excerpt: The sun, moon, stars, and planets have been a source of wonder and fascination for as long as humans have inhabited the earth. In Sky Gazing, a highly visual guide to observing the sky with the naked eye, kids aged 9–14 will delve into the science behind what they see, whether they live in a dark rural setting or under the bright lights of the city. Exploring astronomical objects and events, this captivating book takes young readers on a tour of our solar system and deep space beyond, with explanations of how objects like Earth’s moon were formed and the “why” behind phenomena such as eclipses, northern lights, and meteor showers. Curious sky gazers will discover how to find and observe planets — no binoculars or telescopes required! — and star charts will guide them in spotting constellations throughout the seasons and in both hemispheres while they learn about constellation myths from cultures around the world. Activities include tracking the cycles of the sun and moon and observing the sky during daylight hours or on a cloudy night, while astronomer profiles and sidebars on space technology and current issues such as light pollution help ground kids’ discoveries in the ancient and enduring science of studying the sky.

How did the Moon and tides cause the loss of King John’s crown jewels? In his newest book, Professor Olson, author of Celestial Sleuth and Further Adventures of the Celestial Sleuth, explores how astronomical clues can uncover fascinating new details about art, history, and literature. He begins with an accessible introduction to amateur “celestial sleuthing,” showing how to use your astronomical knowledge, software, archives, vintage maps, historical letters and diaries, military records, and other resources to investigate the past. Follow along as Professor Olson then explores twenty real-world cases where astronomy has helped answer unresolved questions or correct longstanding interpretations about an event. Examples involve artists such as Vermeer, Monet, and O’Keeffe; the historical exploits of Alexander the Great, the desert travels of the Death Valley ’49ers, and a meeting between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill in Marrakech; and literary works by Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Longfellow. Packed with dozens of full-color illustrations, this book will enrich your knowledge of the past and equip you with all the tools you’ll need to become a celestial sleuth yourself. “Many people have a passion for art, or world history, or great literature, or even astronomy — but seldom in all these things at once. This remarkable book by Donald Olson of Texas State University will put you in touch with such seemingly unrelated endeavors. It will open your eyes and broaden your mind as little else could.” Roger W. Sinnott, Sky & Telescope

Book excerpt: "This book heralds the most remarkable archaeological find in the annals of Mankind. Unbeknownst to most, there is an ancient sphinx located in the Bucegi Mountains of Romania. In 2003, the Pentagon discovered, through the use of satellite technology, an anomaly beneath this ancient sphinx. Through the highest levels of Freemasonry, the Pentagon was able to secure an alliance with the most secret department of the Romanian Intelligence Service which is known as Department Zero. Together, the Romanians and the Americans utilised the Pentagon's secret technology to penetrate a hidden chamber beneath the sphinx which was otherwise inaccessible to humans. What was discovered eventually was a holographic Hall of Records left by an advanced civilisation near three mysterious tunnels leading into the Inner Earth. The book chronicles the discovery of these modern day artefacts which represent the dawn of a new era for Mankind. Peter Moon is brought into the fold through his friend, Dr David Anderson, the mysterious scientist who founded the Time Travel Research Center on Long Island and also maintains a similar facility in Romania. Recognising that such satellite technology would had to have utilised Dr Anderson's proprietary space-time technology for maintaining satellites in orbit, Peter Moon pursues these matters further and accepts Dr Anderson's invitation to Romania where he visits the Romanian Sphinx and learns of a mysterious association between the mysterious time travel scientist and Radu Cinamar."--Publisher's description.
