The colonel with a beard and signature bowtie. All of these sentences instantly bring to mind the brands they are associated with, and also probably the instant taste and smell of the food they sell. These images are known on a global scale. How did they do it? Through the power of franchising! Have you ever wanted to start your own fast food/quick service restaurant? Maybe you have an idea for the "next big thing" when it comes to this ever-growing sector of the industry. The average American spends about $1,200 a year on fast food. That's easily $100 or more a month going towards this cultural phenomenon. It really IS a phenomenon when you look at it in terms of how fast the concept of franchised fast food has grown in less than a century. Close your eyes and take yourself back to your childhood. Of course, you can remember the people and places, but it is the smell of food that makes the jigsaw stick together. Your mother, your father, the heartbeat of the kitchen, and the taste of love made real! I have vast experience in starting, running, and ending a profitable restaurant business. I feel it is my duty to show you how to start your business from scratch, run it as best as you can, and then how to gracefully bow out if that time comes. Most importantly, I want to equip you with my advice not just of what to do, but also of what not to do when you decide to start your own fast food restaurant. In this book, you will learn all about the fast food industry - starting your own quick-service restaurant and what franchises are made of. We will cover topics such as: The history and basic industry of fast food How fast food and franchises got their start What it takes to be an entrepreneur Exactly what it takes to start your business from scratch How to deal with financiers How to cover all the bases with insurances, licensing, and equipment How and when to expand your business What the future trends of this industry are Exactly what franchising means, what costs are included in a franchise and the pros and cons of buying into a franchise vs. starting out on your own Financing and the corporate culture once you take on a franchise business Lastly, we'll cover some non-food franchises in case you end wanting to venture down a little different path. Even though this book is choc-full of information, I would greatly encourage you to read literally anything you can about starting the business of your dreams, including, but not limited to, this book. Blight) untold history of how fast food became one of the greatest generators of black wealth in America. Just as The Color of Law provided a vital understanding of redlining and racial segregation, Marcia Chatelain’s Franchise investigates the complex interrelationship between black communities and America’s largest, most popular fast food chain. Taking us from the first McDonald’s drive-in in San Bernardino to the franchise on Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, Missouri, in the summer of 2014, Chatelain shows how fast food is a source of both power—economic and political—and despair for African Americans. As she contends, fast food is, more than ever before, a key battlefield in the fight for racial justice.

Government policies, targeted food industry advertising, and other factors helped create and reinforce fast food consumption in America s urban communities. Historian Chin Jou uncovers how predominantly African-American neighborhoods went from having no fast food chains to being deluged. She lays bare the federal policies that helped to subsidize the expansion of the fast food industry in America s cities and explains how fast food companies have deliberately and relentlessly marketed to urban, African-American consumers. These developments are a significant factor in why Americans, especially those in urban, low-income, minority communities, have become disproportionately affected by the obesity epidemic."

Book excerpt: “This is a book to savor, especially if you’re a fast-food fan.”—Bookpage "This fun, argumentative, and frequently surprising pop history of American fast food will thrill and educate food lovers of all speeds." —Publishers Weekly Most any honest person can own up to harboring at least one fast-food guilty pleasure. In Drive-Thru Dreams, Adam Chandler explores the inseparable link between fast food and American life for the past century. The dark underbelly of the industry’s largest players has long been scrutinized and gutted, characterized as impersonal, greedy, corporate, and worse. But, in unexpected ways, fast food is also deeply personal and emblematic of a larger than life image of America. With wit and nuance, Chandler reveals the complexities of this industry through heartfelt anecdotes and fascinating trivia as well as interviews with fans, executives, and workers. He traces the industry from its roots in Wichita, where White Castle became the first fast food chain in 1921 and successfully branded the hamburger as the official all-American meal, to a teenager's 2017 plea for a year’s supply of Wendy’s chicken nuggets, which united the internet to generate the most viral tweet of all time. Drive-Thru Dreams by Adam Chandler tells an intimate and contemporary story of America—its humble beginning, its innovations and failures, its international charisma, and its regional identities—through its beloved roadside fare.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become popular to blame the American obesity epidemic and many other health-related problems on processed food. Many of these criticisms are valid for some processed-food items, but many statements are overgeneralizations that unfairly target a wide range products that contribute to our health and well-being. In addition, many of the proposed dangers allegedly posed by eating processed food are exaggerations based on highly selective views of experimental studies. We crave simple answers to our questions about food, but the science behind the proclamations of food pundits is not nearly as clear as they would have you believe. This book presents a more nuanced view of the benefits and limitations of food processing and exposes some of the tricks both Big Food and its critics use to manipulate us to adopt their point of view. Food is a source of enjoyment, a part of our cultural heritage, a vital ingredient in maintaining health, and an expression of personal choice. We need to make those choices based on credible information and not be beguiled by the sophisticated marketing tools of Big Food nor the ideological appeals and gut feelings of self-appointed food gurus who have little or no background in nutrition.

She gave me a tour of her company and I was impressed with the number of new orders her company was receiving. This was a strong indication of the active growth of Fast Food Franchises in the global economy. I decided to write this book about how to acquire franchises from fast food chains and how to operate them at a profit. By searching the Internet I found out an Investor-Operator, by spending from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, could acquire a FFF (fast food franchise) and operate it as a successful small business in a short period of time. I also realized that if you did not have the capital available to acquire the FFF, that you could use my Options Trading Software to start with $2000 capital and build up your investment capital to the amount needed to acquire the Franchise you wanted to buy. This book examines several different fast food franchises you might acquire and operate as a successful small business.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1.0, Western Carolina University, course: Marketing Management & Mature Consumers, 8 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The American fast food preparation and presentation model created a strong cultural and collective identity. The model has provided the consumers with uniformity and repeated experience. This phenomenon is called the `McDonaldisation' of the US society that has embraced the all American meal throughout the globe. People want quick and convenient meals; they do not want to spend a lot of time preparing meals, traveling to pick up meals, or waiting for meals in restaurants. As a result, consumers rely on fast food. Knowing this, fast food providers are coming up with new ways to market their products that save time for consumers. For example, McDonald's locates its outlets inside Wal-Mart stores across the United States, and also in Chevron and Amoco service stations. These arrangements are becoming more common in the fast food industry. Consumers can combine meal-time with time engaged in other activities, such as shopping, work, or travel. This idea shapes the growth strategies of most firms in the industry. The most significant driving force is the inexorable movement towards bigness and concentration of power in the hands of fewer and fewer firms at almost every point in the fast food sector. Other driving forces can be seen in the changing structure of American families as more women entered the work force, increasing globalization of the food system, the environmental movement and equity concerns. On the other hand, women are the driving force behind the fast food industry into another direction. Women's attitude towards health and food content has put pressure on the fast food industry to alter their product mix. However, the great success of the traditional fast food outlet is potentially beginning to lose its pull factor. It is believed that the actual fast food sector is in transition from a traditional selling of burgers to the pre-eminent arrival of a fast casual food industry. The driving force for change has been a number of issues that raise questions to scrutinise the fast food companies, such as the link of regular fast food ingestion to obesity, chains showing operating loss for the first time in their history and the forced closure of outlets. This is reflected on McDonald's facing a lawsuit from an overweight teenager who felt it was the company to blame for her condition. The food giant has also closed down outlets worldwide.
