Book excerpt: ABSTRACT : Finding pressure drop in a particle-liquid two phase flow systems is one of the important subjects in the two-phase flow research area. This is due to complex physics (nature) of particle-liquid two phase flow; then it has a complex set of governing equations. But, this problem (pressure drop) is solved for single phase flow and also for porous media. It is offered an idea that porous media can be a two-phase particle-liquid with saturation of the particles. It means that, the genesis of porous media will happen whenever the particles do not have any movement. Thus for investigating this idea, an apparatus setup and the pressure difference for a few different particle sizes in different flow rates records are analyzed with the same particle size but in the situation of porous media.
Book Synopsis Experimental Study on Heat Transfer in Porous Media by : Dr. Beant Singh
Download or read book Experimental Study on Heat Transfer in Porous Media written by Dr. Beant Singh and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is specially designed for postgraduate candidates and research scholars. We have assumed that the reader is conversant with the basic elements of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, but otherwise the book is self-contained. The book describes temperature variation, heat energy exchange, and fluid movement in porous media with the help of experimentation. The experiment is carried with different spherical balls, and water is used as fluid. The materials used as a porous media have different thermodynamic properties. The amount of heat energy exchange and thermal nonequilibrium is analyzed. The heat energy exchange is compared for different materials.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Particle Technology by : Richard Holdich
Download or read book Fundamentals of Particle Technology written by Richard Holdich and published by MidlandIT. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Particle Technology is designed to assist the understanding of how particulate materials behave during processing and is written with engineers and scientists, who are new to the subject, in mind. It is accessible, in both cost and style, and is illustrated with numerous line diagrams. Most of the 16 chapters end with questions in multiple choice format. This helps problem decomposition and the reader can see each step required to arrive at an overall process solution. If the reader makes a mistake with any of the steps he, or she, usually does not see their answer and will immediately know where they have gone wrong. The aspects of Particle Technology covered include: particle characterisation, solid/liquid and solid/gas separations, fluidisation, flow of (and in) dispersions, powder mixing, storage, hazards, crushing and colloidal interaction. Extensive Internet support and referencing is provided. The teaching style adopted is the result of experience gained from presenting the subject for over 30 years at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous commercial applications in the nuclear, oil and gas, and chemical industries use two-phase flows. When using flows, it is critical to follow the procedures to ensure that the equipment is safe and that the process is efficient. Experimental researchers of two-phase flows focus on developing the fundamental knowledge about it and on enhancing credible experimental databases. It is crucial for validating predictions of computer simulations (i.e. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software) and the development of theoretical models. Hence, the purpose of this thesis is to assess the pressure drop for Newtonian liquid/gas and non-Newtonian liquid/gas multiphase flows with various operations and to observe the accuracy of the existing empirical models. Partially, the study also aims at predicting the flow patterns of Newtonian and the non-Newtonian flow. However, the estimation of adding a solid particle to the flow loop was not carried out due to the time limitation and commercial constraints. A Manometer and a differential pressure (dP) cell sensor were used to conduct the experimental measurements of pressure drop. In addition, the flow regimes through a horizontal 72.6-mm-ID pipe was observed by a high-speed camera. For the Newtonian model, water and air were instilled. For the non-Newtonian model, xanthan gum solution made out of xanthan gum and water, and air was injected. The experimental results were in line with the empirical models. The experiment results showed that there is a correlation with an increase of the pressure drop and the increase in the gas flow rate. Moreover, the pressure drop increases when the concentration of Xanthan gum solution increases.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1083 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of literature on convective heat and mass transfer through porous media has brought both engineering and fundamental knowledge to a new state of completeness and depth. Additionally, several new questions of fundamental merit have arisen in several areas which bear direct relation to further advancement of basic knowledge and applications in this field. For example, the growth of fundamental heat transfer data and correlations for engineering use for saturated media has now reached the point where the relations for heat transfer coefficients and flow parameters are known well enough for design purposes. Multiple flow field regimes in natural convection have been identified in several important enclosure geometries. New questions have arisen on the nature of equations being used in theoretical studies, i. e. , the Validity of Darcy assumption is being brought into question; Wall effects in high and low velocity flow fields have been found to play a role in predicting transport coefficients; The formulation of transport problems in fractured media are being investigated as both an extension of those in a homogeneous medium and for application in engineering systems in geologic media and problems on saturated media are being addressed to determine their proper formulation and solution. The long standing problem of how to adequately formulate and solve problems of multi-phase heat and mass transfer in heterogeneous media is important in the technologies of chemical reactor engineering and enhanced oil recovery.
