Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Val is an extremely attractive and very bright young African-American woman. An exotic dancer by trade (and very successful at her craft), the hard gristled back boned enchantress lives a free wheeling, come and go as she pleases lifestyle. Choosing to always remain emotionally unattached, Val very much enjoys the intrinsic freedoms of her devil-may-care standard of existence. By far her favorite customer is a good looking and very upstanding Ebony gentleman named Martin who made sporadic appearances at the club where she danced. A very well-to-do advertising executive, Martin has been widowed for 10 years and is 18 years further up the age ladder than is Val. In coming from the opposed stations that they hailed from, their improbable association will take them both on a gut wrenching, emotionally charged rollercoaster ride (that neither of them could ever have been mentally prepared for), and trigger a chain of events that is packed with the types of drama, twists and turns that oft times happen..................‘When Opposite Worlds Collide’!!!

Book Synopsis It's OK That You're Not OK by : Megan Devine
Download or read book It's OK That You're Not OK written by Megan Devine and published by Sounds True. This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenging conventional wisdom on grief, a pioneering therapist offers a new resource for those experiencing loss When a painful loss or life-shattering event upends your world, here is the first thing to know: there is nothing wrong with grief. “Grief is simply love in its most wild and painful form,” says Megan Devine. “It is a natural and sane response to loss.” So, why does our culture treat grief like a disease to be cured as quickly as possible? In It’s OK That You’re Not OK, Megan Devine offers a profound new approach to both the experience of grief and the way we try to help others who have endured tragedy. Having experienced grief from both sides—as both a therapist and as a woman who witnessed the accidental drowning of her beloved partner—Megan writes with deep insight about the unspoken truths of loss, love, and healing. She debunks the culturally prescribed goal of returning to a normal, “happy” life, replacing it with a far healthier middle path, one that invites us to build a life alongside grief rather than seeking to overcome it. In this compelling and heartful book, you’ll learn: • Why well-meaning advice, therapy, and spiritual wisdom so often end up making it harder for people in grief • How challenging the myths of grief—doing away with stages, timetables, and unrealistic ideals about how grief should unfold—allows us to accept grief as a mystery to be honored instead of a problem to solve • Practical guidance for managing stress, improving sleep, and decreasing anxiety without trying to “fix” your pain • How to help the people you love—with essays to teach us the best skills, checklists, and suggestions for supporting and comforting others through the grieving process Many people who have suffered a loss feel judged, dismissed, and misunderstood by a culture that wants to “solve” grief. Megan writes, “Grief no more needs a solution than love needs a solution.” Through stories, research, life tips, and creative and mindfulness-based practices, she offers a unique guide through an experience we all must face—in our personal lives, in the lives of those we love, and in the wider world. It’s OK That You’re Not OK is a book for grieving people, those who love them, and all those seeking to love themselves—and each other—better.

Book Synopsis Holmes-Sheehan Correspondence by : Oliver Wendell Holmes (Jr.)
Download or read book Holmes-Sheehan Correspondence written by Oliver Wendell Holmes (Jr.) and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., distinguished American jurist, and Patrick Augustine Sheehan, an Irish clerical-savant, enjoyed a warm and notable friendship based largely on their exchange of letters from 1903, when they first met in Ireland, until 1913, the year of Sheehan's death. This correspondence illuminates what is otherwise a largely hidden and little appreciated side of the mind and faith of Justince Holmes. Sheehan was able to draw from his friend an awareness and s ympathy for human frailty and its counterpoint, faith in a divine plan of earthly things, thoughts and feelings that surfaced in letters to other of his friends. The importance of this edition of the Holmes-Sheehan letters rests in the first instance on this discovery. But Canon Sheehan wsa no mere foil for Holmes as they discussed with equal insight issues as varied as the economic man and the age of faith, of classical works, including Dante's Divine Comedy and Pascal's Pensees. Holmes discovered in the Canon a man of the most profound faith who remained open and tolerant of the beliefs and non-beliefs of others. He is better understood because of his affection for Sheehan, and, no less telling, because of the Canon's admiration for him. Gary J. Aichele in Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.: Soldier, Scholar, Judge finds this set of letters perhaps the most unusualof any collection of Holmes correspondence published to date.
