Book Synopsis Commutative Algebra: Constructive Methods by : Henri Lombardi
Download or read book Commutative Algebra: Constructive Methods written by Henri Lombardi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 1033 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Translated from the popular French edition, this book offers a detailed introduction to various basic concepts, methods, principles, and results of commutative algebra. It takes a constructive viewpoint in commutative algebra and studies algorithmic approaches alongside several abstract classical theories. Indeed, it revisits these traditional topics with a new and simplifying manner, making the subject both accessible and innovative. The algorithmic aspects of such naturally abstract topics as Galois theory, Dedekind rings, Prüfer rings, finitely generated projective modules, dimension theory of commutative rings, and others in the current treatise, are all analysed in the spirit of the great developers of constructive algebra in the nineteenth century. This updated and revised edition contains over 350 well-arranged exercises, together with their helpful hints for solution. A basic knowledge of linear algebra, group theory, elementary number theory as well as the fundamentals of ring and module theory is required. Commutative Algebra: Constructive Methods will be useful for graduate students, and also researchers, instructors and theoretical computer scientists.

Book Synopsis Constructive Resistance by : Majken Jul Sørensen
Download or read book Constructive Resistance written by Majken Jul Sørensen and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructive resistance occurs when people start to build the society they desire independently of and in opposition to the dominant structures already in place. Through case studies and illustrative examples from around the world, this book explores how people working for a more just, sustainable and peaceful future combine construction and resistance. The book provides students and practitioners of resistance with tools to detect, critically discuss and evaluate cases of constructive resistance. While some movements focus mainly on either construction or resistance, the authors argue that those who manage to creatively combine the two are likely to achieve more far-reaching goals and see their results become more durable.

Download or read book Anthropos Today written by Paul Rabinow and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-02-09 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of anthropology is, at its best, characterized by turbulence, self-examination, and inventiveness. In recent decades, new thinking and practice within the field has certainly reflected this pattern, as shown for example by numerous fruitful ventures into the "politics and poetics" of anthropology. Surprisingly little attention, however, has been given to the simple insight that anthropology is composed of claims, whether tacit or explicit, about anthropos and about logos--and the myriad ways in which these two Greek nouns have been, might be, and should be, connected. Anthropos Today represents a pathbreaking effort to fill this gap. Paul Rabinow brings together years of distinguished work in this magisterial volume that seeks to reinvigorate the human sciences. Specifically, he assembles a set of conceptual tools--"modern equipment"--to assess how intellectual work is currently conducted and how it might change. Anthropos Today crystallizes Rabinow's previous ethnographic inquiries into the production of truth about life in the world of biotechnology and genome mapping (and his invention of new ways of practicing this pursuit), and his findings on how new practices of life, labor, and language have emerged and been institutionalized. Here, Rabinow steps back from empirical research in order to reflect on the conceptual and ethical resources available today to conduct such inquiries. Drawing richly on Foucault and many other thinkers including Weber and Dewey, Rabinow concludes that a "contingent practice" must be developed that focuses on "events of problematization." Brilliantly synthesizing insights from American, French, and German traditions, he offers a lucid, deeply learned, original discussion of how one might best think about anthropos today.
Book Synopsis The Constructive Promise of Schleiermacher's Theology by : Shelli M. Poe
Download or read book The Constructive Promise of Schleiermacher's Theology written by Shelli M. Poe and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume demonstrates how Friedrich Schleiermacher's thought can be used to address contemporary doctrinal refinement and development. Taking a constructive approach, Shelli M. Poe weaves Schleiermacher's theology together with current scholarship in feminism, womanism, ecotheology, and queer theology. While Schleiermacher is widely acclaimed as the progenitor of modern theology, Poe is one of the first to use his work as a springboard to refine contemporary doctrine. This book demonstrates the promise of Schleiermacher's mature work for contemporary constructive forms of theology.
