Book Synopsis Nonprofit Enterprise in the Arts by : Paul J. DiMaggio
Download or read book Nonprofit Enterprise in the Arts written by Paul J. DiMaggio and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1987-01-15 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking the dichotomy of nonprofit "high culture" and for-profit "popular culture" into consideration, this volume assesses the relationship between social purpose in the arts and industrial organization. DiMaggio brings together some of the best works in several disciplines that focus on the significance of the nonprofit form for our cultural industries, the ways in which nonprofit arts organizations are financed, and the constraints that patterns of funding place on the missions that artists and trustees may wish to pursue. Showing how the production and distribution of art are organized in the United States, the book delineates the differing roles of nonprofit organizations, proprietary firms, and government agencies. In doing so, it brings to the surface some of the special tensions that beset arts management and policy, the way the arts are changing or are likely to change, and the policy alternatives "high culture" faces.

Book excerpt: Reviews the public spaces that have been created, used, or enhanced in memory lives lost from terrorists' attacks of September 11, 2001. Reports the results of a national registry that serves as an online inventory of living memorial sites and social motivations. Through the first year of research, more than 200 living memorials were located in every state in the U.S. This publication includes findings associated with research conducted in the first year of the multi-year study. One of the findings was that after September 11, 2001, communities needed space: space to create, space to teach, space to restore, space to create a locus of control. These social motivations formed the basis of patterned human responses observed throughout the nation. A site typology emerged adhering to specific forms and functions that often reflected a variance in attitudes, beliefs, and social networks.

Book Synopsis The Evaluation of Complex Infrastructure Projects by : Lasse Gerrits
Download or read book The Evaluation of Complex Infrastructure Projects written by Lasse Gerrits and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrastructure projects are notoriously hard to manage so it is important that society learns from the successes and mistakes made over time. However, most evaluation methods run into a conundrum: either they cover a large number of projects but have little to say about their details, or they focus on detailed single-case studies with little in terms of applicability elsewhere. This book presents Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) as an alternative evaluation method that solves the conundrum to enhance learning.
