Book Synopsis Space Charge Physics for Particle Accelerators by : Ingo Hofmann
Download or read book Space Charge Physics for Particle Accelerators written by Ingo Hofmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding and controlling the physics of space charge effects in linear and circular proton and ion accelerators are essential to their operation, and to future high-intensity facilities. This book presents the status quo of this field from a theoretical perspective, compares analytical approaches with multi-particle computer simulations and – where available – with experiments. It discusses fundamental concepts of phase space motion, matched beams and modes of perturbation, along with mathematical models of analysis – from envelope to Vlasov-Poisson equations. The main emphasis is on providing a systematic description of incoherent and coherent resonance phenomena; parametric instabilities and sum modes; mismatch and halo; error driven resonances; and emittance exchange due to anisotropy, as well as the role of Landau damping. Their distinctive features are elaborated in the context of numerous sample simulations, and their potential impacts on beam quality degradation and beam loss are discussed. The book is intended for advanced beginners in accelerator research, and for experts interested in the mechanisms of direct space charge interaction and their modeling.
Book Synopsis The Infancy of Particle Accelerators by : Pedro Waloschek
Download or read book The Infancy of Particle Accelerators written by Pedro Waloschek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: by Pedro Waloschek The following autobiographical account of Rolf Wideröe's life and work is based on manuscripts and letters written by hirnself, most ofthem especially for this report. Data from audio and video recordings with his illustrations and from my notes taken during aseries ofmeetings between the two ofus were also included. Rolf Wideröe gave me access to many of his publications and to other documents from which I have extracted further information. I have compiled, edited and, where necessary, put the texts in chronological order. These were then corrected and supplemented by Rolf Wideröe during the course of several readings. The English translation was also checked by Wideröe and we were able to add some improvements and corrections. This account there fore stands as an authorised biography and is written in the first person. Mrs. Wideröe's accurate memory was of great assistance. The emphasis has been on RolfWideröe's life story and the first developments which led to modem particle accelerators. Techni cal and scientific comments have been kept as comprehensive and concise as possible.

This book was released on 2006-08-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spurred by the development of high-current, high-energy relativistic electron beams, this books delves into the foundations of a device- and geometry-independent theoretical treatment of a large collection of interacting and radiating electron bunches. Covers a broad swath of topics, from the radiation emission of a single charged particle to collective behaviour of a high-density electron bunch, to application in modern sytems.

Book Synopsis The Vulnerable Fortress by : James R. Taylor
Download or read book The Vulnerable Fortress written by James R. Taylor and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this challenging book, James R. Taylor and Elizabeth J. Van Every argue that partly as a result of the introduction of information and communications technology into the workplace, the nature and authority of the traditional bureaucratic form of organization is being called into question. While not espousing technological determinism, they contend that developments in telecommunications, and computer software, constitute at one and the same time, a globalization and a fragmentation of organizational communications. These trends transcend the bounds of bureaucratic lines of control and integration, and presage the emergence of new organizational forms. Suggesting that existing models of the organization as a rational machine are no longer adequate to explain or to cope with the complexity of the organizational changes taut are occurring in an information economy, Taylor and Van Every outline a communication-based alternative. Their approach explores the technology's impact on the transactional and symbolic dimensions of organization, and its implications for radical 're-framing' of management's own role. The book touches on important issues in at least three major areas of research: organizational theory, informational technology, and the information society. Taylor and Van Every's interdisciplinary synthesis focuses attention on the fundamental nature of modern organizations from a unique communicational perspective. Taylor and Van Every identify problems which are having and will continue to have a significant impact on business, governance, and society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market: Physicists, especially beam physicists and elementary particle physicists, as well as science historians and students. In the 1950s and 60s a revolution took place in our ability to handle and manipulate particle beams. This revolution cleared a path for major advances and changed forever the way matter is explored at the subnuclear level. This volume gathers together for the first time the seminal papers on the development and expansion of collider physics. Included are groundbreaking writings from Gersh Budker, Donald Kerst, Bruno Touschek, Nobel laureate Simon van der Meer, Gerry O'Neill, Ernest Courant, Keith Symon, and others. The editors, Claudio Pellegrini and Andrew Sessler, were colleagues of many of these notable contributors and witnesses to the development of virtually every machine mentioned in the book.
