Book excerpt: In response to the complexities of social change that have become evident in the 21st century, there is a need for innovation in career theory that takes into account new perspectives and the fluctuating contexts of people’s lives. Contemporary Theories of Career Development: International Perspectives brings together the contributions of theorists from around the globe whose work represents current, cutting-edge international approaches to career development theory. Emphasizing the new perspectives that are needed for this field to be relevant in a contemporary era, this book considers the cultural applications of theory in a diverse range of populations. Structured in three parts with chapters written by internationally renowned leaders in the field, this collection features a critical examination of the current history of the field; thirteen theory chapters, each enhanced by a case study; and a final chapter that draws the previous chapters together through key themes, broadening the reader’s knowledge of theoretical perspectives and their interrelations. Each theory chapter author comments on and critiques his or her own theory, inviting readers to engage with these theories at both a practical and theoretical level through the case studies. Detailed, with reader-friendly descriptions and supplemented by international research, case examples, and discussion questions, Contemporary Theories of Career Development: International Perspectives is the ideal reference work for students studying the topic as well as a stimulus for researchers and practitioners looking to implement the theories in their work.

Book Synopsis The Report: Abu Dhabi 2015 by : Oxford Business Group
Download or read book The Report: Abu Dhabi 2015 written by Oxford Business Group and published by Oxford Business Group. This book was released on 2016-05-09 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbons revenues still form the bulk of Abu Dhabi’s GDP and while falling prices are a concern, the emirate has been moving steadily towards its economic diversification targets in line with Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. The past 10 years has seen the non-oil sector expand strongly on the back of business-friendly government policies, as a result of which non-oil sector growth now outpaces that of the oil sector. Outside of hydrocarbons, construction and manufacturing represent the biggest GDP contributors in the emirate, with the construction sector poised to enter a period of renewed expansion and manufacturing identified as a key area for future growth, leveraging the emirate’s natural resources, growing downstream capabilities and strategic location. Elsewhere Abu Dhabi’s financial sector continues to assert itself and the expected 2015 launch of Abu Dhabi Global Market, the UAE’s second financial free zone, is expected to boost activity in the sector. Meanwhile visitor numbers to Abu Dhabi continue to rise, with around 3.5m arrivals in 2014, up 25% on the previous year. This growth is expected to continue as major infrastructure upgrades continue apace. These include the expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport and the development of the 1200-km wide Etihad rail project.
Book Synopsis Policing the Lucky Country by : Mike Enders
Download or read book Policing the Lucky Country written by Mike Enders and published by Hawkins Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policing The Lucky Country addresses key challenges of contemporary Australian policing, and places them within the context of Australia's particular culture and history. The book's approach is to combine policing case studies with an analysis of the wider social and political environment. Policing students are given information which enables them to think critically about contemporary policing practice and to understand the factors behind pervasive attitudes in the forces and the community. In this way, it aims to increase each officer's range of responses, leading to appropriate policing practices and increased safety for the officer. One of the key strengths of the book is the discussion of policing and indigenous persons, with articles on policing indigenous peoples and indigenous participation in policing. Specific police-indigenous clashes are examined and situated within the Aboriginal policies of the day. This historical perspective illuminates the discussion of current police force relationships with, and responsibilities towards, indigenous persons. Other issues considered - the use of technology, the enforcement of drug laws, the maintenance of public order, the role of police in industrial disputes, the social construction of crime - are studied in similar fashion, and provide a useful source of information and discussion about areas of policing relevant to contemporary police work. This book is designed for first year policing students, but will also be useful in criminology courses.
