Instead I chose what I wanted to be and then I went out there and did everything I could to be it. You can, too. Success is a journey, not a destination. It doesn't happen in a straight line, the path goes off to one side and then the other all the time. But when it veers off track you just get back on it and keep going. Create your own future, and your own closure. Don't look for happiness in other people, find it in yourself.' Katie Piper Join Katie on her journey to inner confidence - with her help and guidance, the true, deep-down confidence you deserve is within your reach.

One of the most common and yet difficult feelings you experience is isolation. It seems no one understands what you are going through. And many of us are so busy, you dont take the time to fully grieve and, therefore, heal from your losses. It is very true that people who are grieving often feel extremely tired because the process of grieving usually requires physical and emotional energy. The grief you are feeling is not just for the person who died, but also for the unfulfilled wishes and plans for the relationship with the person. Death often reminds most of the people of past losses or separations. Remember, there are a number of conditions that can make it harder for you as a person to successfully make it through the grief process. For example, sudden losses are harder to deal with than ones that have been anticipated. With anticipated losses, the knowledge that a loss will occur allows people to prepare, both by feeling grief before the fact of the loss and also by planning ways to minimize the negative impact of the loss when it does occur. The loss of a spouse, lover, child, parent, or best friend is usually more deeply felt than the loss of more distant relations and friends. This is because such central relationships have long and deeply felt histories and an intensity of attachment that does not occur with more distant relationships. Central relationships are more deeply and significantly knitted into the grieving persons sense of self, and thus leave a bigger hole in the grieving persons sense of self when they are lost. I discovered that when things are going badly, whether in the family or work environment, most of us strive mightily to improve our situations. But what if the way to overcome a series of losses and failures is just to sink into them? We all go through trials and tribulations. Everyone has difficult situations in their life. It is the way we look at them, and the way we handle those situations. I believe it is the struggle we must endure to gain the strength needed to break through the barriers. With every victory comes the strength we need to overcome the obstacles and move forward. Most people today give up easily because of what you may call emotional downturn. This book in your hand has been written and carefully thought out with you in mind. It has been written to bring you out of your sociological pit and emotional defeat. I therefore gladly recommend this book to your reading that you may be built in His grace. I believe that God will never give you more than you can handle. You often wonder how some people cope with their situations in life, I often hear people saying, IdontthinkIcoulddealwiththat but we dont know what strength lies within us, until the time comes to face the challenge. The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victoryNo test, no rewards.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The period between 1929 and 1949 represents one of the most traumatic and destructive in the history of Germany. Economic crisis, Nazism, war, destruction and post-war dislocation dominated the lives of all Germans and those living in Germany. While all ethnic groups faced great hardship during these years, there were stark differences between the experience of native ethnic Germans, German refugees from Eastern Europe, German Jews, Romanies and foreigners. Using vital primary sources, archival material and insightful interviews, Panikos Panayi presents an extraordinary analysis of the individual experiences of, and relationships between, all these groups living in the German town of Osnabruck. He focuses on Alltagsgeschichte (the history of everyday life) to understand the realities for people living in one German location in a time of great change and upheaval. By concentrating on the wide span of 20 years of German experience he brings original breadth to an area of study, more commonly associated with the narrower focus of 1933-45. Despite the centrality of race in Nazi ideology, this is the first major study to look at the lives of all of the differing ethnic groups in Germany during this period. Panayi reveals the fluidity of the borderline between victims and perpetrators, how the use of forced labour dramatically changed the ethnic composition of the town and the impact of the arrival of German refugees from Eastern Europe at the end of World Wa II. Panayi's revealing analysis of the continuity and discontinuity in the everyday lives of Osnabruckers between 1929 and 1949, and the inter-ethnic relations during this period, is an essential reference tool for anyone wanting to understand the now time realities of living in Nazi Germany.

It’s about two forfeit voyagers Trushna and Samay , the protagonists of this paradox ,who came from the virgin cosmos to this inconclusive planet Earth to seek the experience of absolute truth and reconnoitre their traits. In this expedition, they came with their slates clean but here they had to confront all the forms of avarices and somehow unknowingly they had to indulge in them .From there the real journey eventually proceeded further and gathered every aspect of life along sufferings of reality. In the seeking of transformations undergone, they had been through different forms of avarices like wealth, physical intimacy, attachments, revenge ,love , etcetera. In the process of gathering for the satisfaction of lust and impulses of mind, they had to face the hidden paradoxes of humanity which takes this tale on the ride of social views like women assault, child abuse, prostitution, corruption, homosexuality and so on. All these transformations in this story are written in the format of phases that contain the homogeneous mixture of greed and social problems. The epilogue of this tale displays the quintessence of absolute knowledge and later the absolute truth along with enigmatic query. It is totally kept hidden till the end for the readers to figure out the conclusion of the mystery that holds the real voyage of Trushna and Samay , also it may totally vary from reader to reader. In this form, the story reveals the path of acquiring reality in the cradle of agony.

Book excerpt: What do I do when my son or daughter appears to be hallucinating, paranoid or has stopped looking after themselves? Written for family members and friends of those who suffer from schizophrenia and other psychoses, Back to Life, Back to Normality 2 describes the typical symptoms and problems of those suffering from psychotic disorders and discusses how a relative can best listen, interact and communicate their support. Research conducted by authors Douglas Turkington and Helen Spencer has shown that individuals without psychiatric training and qualifications can easily learn and safely use some basic cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to help communicate effectively and provide support to their loved one suffering from psychosis. These techniques are described and illustrated with examples throughout this book, to allow carers to learn how to provide the best possible support and help facilitate a recovery for those suffering.

Book excerpt: Norms and standards make it easier for companies and other organisations to reliably meet high expectations. They thus contribute to our trust in a normality that is characterised by quality, safety and comfort - and is therefore by no means "normal". As necessary and effective as norms and standards are for a society based on the division of labour and complexity, the public awareness of them is low. That is why this non-fiction book provides for the first time an overview of norms and standards systems in Switzerland. From a historical and a future-oriented perspective, the book takes up the following questions: Why and how have norms and standards become so important in recent decades? How exactly do they create their economic and social benefits? To what extent can they hinder or promote innovation and transformation - and what potential does this offer for sustainable development? Journalists, academics and other experts provide answers based on fundamental articles and case studies from companies and other organisations.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1981, this book describes day services for adults, a relatively recent development in health and social services at the time. Most people assume immediately that day care is only provided for young children: Day Services for Adults will make it clear that a growing number of services exist by day for adults, and in a diversity and variety which have enormous potential both for those who use them and for those who work in them. Day Services for Adults reports the results of a five-year national survey. The broad terms of reference of the research were to review the present provision of day centres for adults. To consider the policy questions of staffing and accommodation and to suggest which groups in the community might benefit most from day centres and to advise on how these centres might contribute to the integration and development of local services for those in need. The result was the first comprehensive investigation of day services in the world. Jan Carter analyses services for the elderly, the mentally handicapped, the mentally ill, the physically handicapped, offenders, drug addicts and those in family care centres sponsored by health, social services, probation and voluntary agencies. By a full coverage of all these groups and their sponsors, unique comparisons between services for the various groups can be made. Day Services for Adults was intended for those who made decisions about day units and particularly for local authority policy-makers and executive civil servants in local authority health authorities and central government. It was also addressed to those senior professionals practising inside and outside day services: psychiatrists, geriatricians, those practising rehabilitation medicine, senior nursing officers, psychologists, senior social workers and social work administrators.

Talking Back brings the reader into the classroom with people disabled by chronic back pain to experience the insights and lessons that have helped thousands of them to regain the physical and emotional capacities to resume productive lives and wellness. Through the stories of sufferers and the steps they took to take back their lives, Dr. Rowland Hazard reveals their pathways to recovery.. When back pain limits their work, recreation, and even simple activities of daily life, people become disconnected from their former lives and relationships. Each chapter in Talking Back takes the reader through one of Dr. Hazard’s classes developed from his 30 years of listening to patients’ narratives and needs. The topics begin with how people become disconnected and how to reconnect by setting personally meaningful life goals and safely achieving the flexibility, strength, and endurance required by those goals. Strategies include dealing effectively with doctors and drugs and owning the skills of deep relaxation and physical self-care to combat acute flare-ups of pain and to overcome the fear of pain that disables people even more than the pain itself. Talking Back delivers tools for rebuilding an active life and enjoying the benefits of wellness, even if you cannot get rid of your pain.

Book excerpt: This book was written to help you understand that there is hope after a marriage or relationship breaks down. You feel at the end of your world. You cant function properly and day to day living seems pointless. These are some of the emotions that we go through when a loved one leaves us without much warning. It really hurts. I looked everywhere for help or advice but couldn’t find anything to help me. So I decided to put down in writing what happened to me so that you can see that your not on your own and that eventually you will be ok. It takes a long time for some and not so long for others, but don’t worry you will be ok. I have tried to start where all of our emotions for the fairer sex began in the playground!! This look at relationships helps your understand that love is a precious thing but also difficult to hold on to. It has a funny side and a sad side. Hopefully my tale will help you understand that slowly you can get back to normality where ever that is.
