Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significant growth of number of students enrolled in tertiary education institutions in the recent past decades has caused an unprecedented expansion of higher education systems. The rapid and constant social, economic and technological mutations and international competition make the importance of qualitatively well-educated citizenry and labor forces very decisive. Globalization has developed a powerful impact on the development of higher education and imposes new challenges for the organization (standards, financing, regulations). Systems of higher education tend to detach from the national models and adopt a more "global" orientation. The implementation of quality assurance is one of the recent and most decisive transformations of higher education. Different higher education systems are trying to develop assessment tools (internal and external) to improve the quality of teaching, research and extension activities, and these are either based on experiences of selected countries or are extensively country specific. The quality assurance procedures that were often dependent on national directorial traditions have gradually tended to converge and led to a setup of common tools and standards. Countries under a centralized system tend to impose a uniform and general model while decentralized systems give greater freedom to universities to set up their own quality. International rankings of universities also contribute to impose a set of transnational standards and values, which is also being considered as indicative by the stakeholders. The present book tries to look at the quality assurance mechanism, international rankings and its impact in both absolute and comparative fashion in context of 11 countries from different parts of the world.

Book excerpt: The emergence of fully online, hybrid and blended forms of higher education has led governments, quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions (HEIs) across the OECD to reflect on how to ensure that digital education provides learners with opportunities to reach learning and employment outcomes similar to those achieved through traditional in person instruction. Building on stakeholder engagement and comparative analysis, this report offers an assessment of Hungary’s quality assurance system for higher education and, more specifically, its strengths and weaknesses for assuring the quality of digital higher education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theological seminaries and Bible institutes find themselves at the crossroads of preserving biblical faithfulness and of maintaining contextual relevance. What does faithful contextual relevance look like? How can theological institutions steer a course that will engage and serve the church through the men and women they equip for ministry and service? In pursuit of answers to those questions, a qualitative research project was designed and conducted in the Protestant evangelical community in Madrid, Spain. It presented a unique situation where seminary faculty and students and church attenders could be invited to share their perspectives, experiences, and hopes for transformative theological education. Congregants offered a vision of theological education that equips leaders to relationally empower the church to give witness in the society. Intentional listening was prioritized on three seminary campuses where faculty and students shared their stories of theological formation and described the unique contextual challenges they face as Protestant believers in Spain. They voiced narratives of how they must find ways to persevere amid pervasive scarcity and in a rapidly changing society. Seminaries and churches around the world may recognize details of their own experiences in these stories and, importantly, receive resources for relevant contextualization in this work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essence of this book is to shed light on the nature of current educational practices from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Both teachers and their trainers provide a better understanding of teacher training and learning processes. Mutual interrelations and the provision of knowledge between academia and schools are essential for merging discourses and aligning positions, whereby turning practice into theory and theory into practice in today’s teaching is vital for suitably responding to multiple issues and increasingly diverse contexts. The array of studies from around the world compiled in this volume allow readers to find common ground, discover shared concerns, and define goals. Studying teaching practice and training in different contexts reveals the state-of-the-art practices and identifies those issues that enable educators to understand the complexities involved. The chapters examine the development of our knowledge and understanding of teaching practices, at the same time as analysing engaging learning environments, the sustainability of learning and teaching practices, and highlighting new practices based on the use of ICTs. The diverse teaching contexts considered in this compilation of international research are organized according to the following topics: Teaching occupational learning and knowledge; Teacher beliefs and reflective thinking; and Innovative teaching procedures. The contributors are Laura Sara Agrati, Dyann Barras, Verónica Basilotta Gómez-Pablos, Benignus Bitu, Robyn Brandenburg, Heather Braund, Michael Cavanagh, Chiou-hui Chou, Jean Clandinin, Leah L. Book excerpt: The inclusion of experts in communicability in the software industry has allowed timeframes to speed up in the commercialization of new technological products worldwide. However, this constant evolution of software in the face of the hardware revolution opens up a host of new horizons to maintain and increase the quality of the interactive systems following a set of standardized norms and rules for the production of interactive software. Currently, we see some efforts towards this goal, but they are still partial solutions, incomplete, and flawed from the theoretical as well as practical points of view. If the quality of the interactive design is analyzed, it is left to professionals to generate systems that are efficient, reliable, user-friendly, and cutting-edge. The Handbook of Research on Software Quality Innovation in Interactive Systems analyzes the quality of the software applied to the interactive systems and considers the constant advances in the software industry. This book reviews the past and present of information and communication technologies with a projection towards the future, along with analyses of software, software design, phrases to use, and the purposes for software applications in interactive systems. This book is ideal for students, professors, researchers, programmers, analysists of systems, computer engineers, interactive designers, managers of software quality, and evaluators of interactive systems.
