Book excerpt: About the Book This story came to life as the author was preparing to lead a lesson on the virtue of humility in a purity group in which her daughters were involved. In an effort to remember what humility was, the acronym E.G.G.S came to her mind. Each letter stands for an element of the definition of humility. Ironically, God had to teach Maria what humility was in a profound way when she was in the hospital for four days and leaned on the arms of some wonderful family and friends. The original story did not have Teresa learning the lesson about asking for help when needed. This was entered in after God reminded Maria that humility is not only serving, but allowing oneself to be served when the time arises. God is so good and her prayer is that this story brings all the glory to Him! About the Author Maria Stewart lives in Wichita, Kansas with her husband, Chris, and their seven children. (See if you can find her children's names in the book- Demi, Teresa, Rose (Rosie), Thomas, Joseph, Anthony, and Mary). She is a graduate from Franciscan University of Steubenville where she majored in Elementary Education and Theology. She and her family have a love for teaching and evangelization which is evident by their involvement in Casting Nets Ministries (www.CastingNetsOnline.com). She also keeps busy with homeschooling her elementary age children and foster care. About the Illustrator Steve Cost is a blessed individual doing what he loves doing, teaching young people about the creation of art, enjoying his grandchildren and helping others. "Reading, An Omelet fit for a King, as a family was not only entertaining but also spiritually enriching. My children enjoyed the simple storyline as well as the catechetical component of living as children of God. The conversation that followed our reading time was most thoughtful as we discussed ways that we could grow in understanding the EGGS that apply to each of us each day. As a home schooling mother of eight, I am always eager to read books that I can incorporate into my curriculum and I believe that An Omelet Fit for a King will be a story that we take off of the shelf often to revisit it's deep and profound message." Twenty-year-old Molly McLaren agrees to tend the light when her father breaks his leg, so she leaves behind the city and her nursing career. Molly dreads the thought of three months as the sole inhabitant on the tiny island, nineteen nautical miles off the rugged coastline of Augusta in Western Australia. Molly discovers she enjoys the solitude, and when a massive storm arrives bringing a life raft, Molly risks her life to save the unconscious man inside. On waking, he says he has lost his memory but as Molly nurses him back to health she wonders if he has. When the storm finally clears, Molly has fallen for the man she's nicknamed John, but still has doubts about his honesty. The real danger arrives with two men who are searching for her mystery man. They want to kill him and anyone else who can identify them, and Molly quickly learns; on a lighthouse, there is nowhere to hide.

Book excerpt: Above the entrance to the Finnish Labour Temple in Thunder Bay is the motto labor omnia vincit – “hard work conquers all” – reflecting the dedication of the Finnish community in Canada. Hard Work Conquers All examines Finnish community building in Canada during the twentieth century. Waves of immigrants imbued the relationship between people, homeland, and host country with the politics, ideologies, and cultural expressions of their time. This collection of essays explores the cultural identities of Finnish Canadians, their ties to Finland, intergenerational cultural transfer, and the community’s connections with socialism and labour movements. It offers new interpretations of the influence of Finnish immigration on Canada.
