Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vietnam Convoy Trucker recounts the story of Specialist Five William (Bill) Patterson, as he and his fellow truck drivers delivered supplies to American combat troops battling the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong. The men experienced moments of fear, boredom and humor during their almost year-long tour during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s. The Lord watched over them and brought all but one back safely. Various members of the company took the photographs that accompany many of the incidents he describes. Author Bio: William E. ("Bill") Patterson was born in Augusta, GA in 1943, one of seven children. He has lived all his life within ten miles of the Augusta National Golf Course. No, he has never played there! He attended public schools, and used his G.I. Bill benefit and graduated from Augusta College (now Georgia Regents University) with a Bachelor Of Business Administration (emphasis Management) degree. He was awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for his Vietnam War service. Bill was a Georgia State Bowling Championship Team member as a youth and as an adult. He was awarded the U.S. Army Major Command Outstanding Program (Bowling) Managers Award in 1988 and 1989. After nearly forty years' employment with bowling centers he is now retired. He and wife Shelley are Christians and very active in their Warren Baptist Church. His priorities now are God, Family, Country and "Other" in that order of importance. He hopes his fellow Vietnam War Veterans and others will find this book worth reading.

Book excerpt: This is the saga of the Cobra--the attack helicopter--its development and introduction into Vietnam during the summer of '67, and the stories of the men who flew it. For a Cobra pilot--a Snake Driver--every launch meant he was going headlong into combat. As key providers of fire support, Snake Drivers always had missions, and every mission was real war--flying into hot LZs or kill zones that were literally walls of lead and high explosives. These are their tales of bravery and skill in the hellfire that was Vietnam.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot salty pho isn’t all you’ll slurp in Vietnam. This whole S-shaped country is an underrated gay paradise! Vietnamese gay dudes are tight, slim, often English-speaking, and always hungry to meet foreigners. As for the Vietnamese heteros? They are remarkably accepting of us gay folk. Vietnam is just as gay-friendly as Thailand, if not more so. And unlike Thailand, Vietnam is happy to welcome visitors. Prices in Vietnam — for hotels, meals, drinks, rides, or guys — are a fraction of those in Thailand. Get ready for midrange hotel rooms for $25 and fancy cocktails for $4. Every Vietnamese city is full of gay life: cafes, bars, hangouts, drag shows, saunas, and of course eager men. Unfortunately, Vietnamese gay life isn’t flamboyant. Vietnam won’t dangle its gayness in your face. In Vietnam, you have to know what you’re looking for, and how to find it. That’s what this book is for. It’s all of gay Vietnam, at its gay best, including hotels, bars, saunas, and of course, ports of call for those who love to cruise! There’s the serious stuff too: where to get PrEP and how to avoid Vietnam’s common Grindr scams. Oh, just buy this book for a good time and prance on over to Pride Cafe already! Bradley Chetworth is a Fortune 500 executive who regularly travels Asia for business, and a whole lot of pleasure.

The number of enemy contact incidents increased, as did the number of casualties. The ARVN were stretched to the limit, with the training of its junior officers limited. Special Forces units in remote areas recruited and trained the local hill people, referring to them as the Popular Forces. Brutalities such as torture and executions by sections of troops from both sides were not unusual.

Book excerpt: When the Vietnam War finally ended in April 1975 with the communist capture of Saigon, Vietnam itself became a closed country, out of bounds to western travellers and journalists. By 1989, however, such was Vietnams economic plight that the government decided the time had come to open its doors again, albeit most gingerly. By a stroke of good fortune Justin Wintle became the first writer from the West to be allowed to journey around the whole of Vietnam. This is Justin Wintles classic account of what he found in postwar Vietnam, and how, for three months, he played cat and mouse with those charged with keeping him in line, while developing a profound love for more ordinary Vietnamese and the astonishing landscapes they inhabit.

Book excerpt: Through 67 interviews and 59 colour photographs, It's a Living reveals the energy and struggle of the world of work in Vietnam today. A goldfish peddler installing aquariums, a business school graduate selling shoes on the sidewalk, a college student running an extensive multi-level sales network, and a girl doing promotions but intent on moving into management, are just a few of the people profiled. Based on frank and freewheeling interviews conducted by students, the book engages a broad range of Vietnamese, both living in Vietnam and abroad, on their feelings about work, life and getting ahead. By providing a ground-level view of the texture of daily working life in the midst of rapid and unsettling change, the book reveals Vietnam today as a place where ordinary people are leveraging whatever assets they have, not just to survive, but to make a better life for themselves, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Book excerpt: Byron Holley spent the longest year of his young life in Vietnam as surgeon of the 4th Battalion 39th Regiment 9th Infantry Division. He lived like a swamp rat in the boonies of the Mekong Delta, and his actions were sometimes all that made the difference between life and death. Holley never got used to death, to seeing men he knew go home in body bags. Serving under Col. David H.Hackworth, Holley saw the outfit begin to act more like an elite bunch of Rangers than the rag-tag, half-drunk group it had been. He watched Hackworth turn the 4/39 into the fighting and feared Hardcore Recondo battalion. Now, twenty six years later, Doc Holley returns to the land of so much pain and suffering, his trip a mission to visit the exact location where one of his special friends died in one of the fiercest battles fought in the Mekong Delta. What he found will surprise even the most cynical skeptic…forgiveness, warmth, and hospitality from the very people who took his friend’s life, defending their ancestors land so long ago. This is a story of love and healing and is a must-read for anyone who was there or had someone they loved over there.

Book excerpt: In the late 1980s, most of the world still associated Vietnam with resistance and war, hardship, refugees, and a mismanaged planned economy. During the 1990s, by contrast, major countries began to see Vietnam as both a potential partner and a strategically significant actor—particularly in the competition between the United States and an emerging China—and international investors began to see Vietnam as a land of opportunity.
