It is set in Eastern North Carolina and Southern Virginia during the late 1960s and into the twenty-first century. It is the fifth and final book in the series. Getting Past the Tears continues the story where Gardenia Lane ends. Kay Peel was happily married to her childhood sweetheart. Their lives were interrupted when her husband was drafted into the army and deployed to Vietnam. When the messengers arrived to notify Kay that her husband had been killed in action, she felt cheated out of the life they had planned. She leans on God, her friends, and her late husband's family to help her through her grief and broken heart. She decides to concentrate on her job as a registered nurse and close her heart to love to avoid having her heart broken again. Quint Sterling is a handsome doctor who had served in Vietnam. When he returned home from Vietnam, he found that his wife had not waited for him. He was welcomed home with divorce papers. His heart and dreams were shattered. He swore off women for fear of being hurt again. God has other plans for Kay and Quint. When the pretty young widow and the handsome doctor meet, there is an instant attraction between them. Even though Quint is fifteen years older than Kay, the couple bonds. It is as if their broken hearts reach out to each other. Neither of them is looking for love. They become close friends. Their friendship becomes the most important part of their lives. This is a story of how love can mend broken hearts and restore broken dreams. Through God's love, the couple realizes that what's gone is gone. Their hearts heal by letting go of the past and moving forward in love. True love conquers all. They find that love is more joyful the second time around.

Book excerpt: A true story, Beyond the Tears begins with the suicide attempt of an abused and addicted twenty-five-year-old woman. In the aftermath, she commits to counseling to recover from anxiety and depression associated with post-traumatic stress disorder. The author engages the reader in therapy sessions where the young woman reveals dysfunctional family relationships, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and mental illness. Due to the therapeutic process, the woman discovers a path to love and the value of life, and she ultimately achieves a life that reflects health and happiness. In sharing this inspirational journey, the author provides a message of hope. Sexual assault, addiction, and suicide are unsolved social problems that carry stigmas. The stigmas cast a code of silence that do not solve problems. The result from not speaking about the crime of sexual assault is too often tragic. Thus, there is a need for real stories of recovery. By bringing my dark secrets to light, it is my hope that others who have had similar events will know that they are not alone. Readers may explore their own emotions to open lines of communication, eliminate shame, and experience healing. I also hope that my book promotes understanding of the issues that cause individual suffering and plague our society.

Book excerpt: A highly evolved civilization, almost unknown to history, thrived in North America for centuries long before the coming of Europeans. The Camp of God's Tears is a tragic tale about this civilization as it ended. This story is grounded in fact according to archeological, genetic, and linguistic data as reflected in the Afterward which presents supportive information and a bibliography of nearly 400 sources. This saga is told as a narrative by Gray Wolf who begins his story during his late adolescence and follows through six generations until he becomes a great-grandfather.The Camp of God's Tears reveals the high level of sophistication of this culture which was far more advanced than many cultures of the same time period, circa 300 AD. More importantly, it articulates the depth of their spirituality and moral codes by which these people lived. While the mysterious ending of a great culture is heart-rendering, the story ends on a note of hope for contemporary times. The story came to me in a dream. It was told to me by Falling Star. She answered a myriad of questions I asked. She showed me the locations of where the events in the story took place. She showed me her People who wore exotic clothes made of finely woven textiles decorated with pearls, copper and other artistic ornaments. She showed me strongly built homes, their villages, and their expansive farms. I saw their social organization was powerful yet simple, a few shaman, elders, and no real leaders. She intrigued me with their immense earthworks which demonstrate accurate astronomical alignments to the Sun, Moon, stars, and galaxies. The organization of labor, engineering skills, mathematical and astronomical knowledge required to build these phenomenal earthworks amazes modern researchers. I asked Falling Star why she showed me all of this. She said her People wanted their story told and asked me if I would tell it. Of course, I said, and then I asked her why. She said her People were so deeply spiritual, so in tune and in touch with the Creator that they actively lived the principles of Oneness. Their ways demonstrated what being one and at one with the One . . . looked like in real life. She said the people of my time need to know these principles and to learn to live them, because humankind is struggling to regain balance in a troubled world.

Some of these men had never spoken of their experiences before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All But My Life is the unforgettable story of Gerda Weissmann Klein's six-year ordeal as a victim of Nazi cruelty. From her comfortable home in Bielitz (present-day Bielsko) in Poland to her miraculous survival and her liberation by American troops--including the man who was to become her husband--in Volary, Czechoslovakia, in 1945, Gerda takes the reader on a terrifying journey. Gerda's serene and idyllic childhood is shattered when Nazis march into Poland on September 3, 1939. Although the Weissmanns were permitted to live for a while in the basement of their home, they were eventually separated and sent to German labor camps. Over the next few years Gerda experienced the slow, inexorable stripping away of "all but her life." By the end of the war she had lost her parents, brother, home, possessions, and community; even the dear friends she made in the labor camps, with whom she had shared so many hardships, were dead. Despite her horrifying experiences, Klein conveys great strength of spirit and faith in humanity. In the darkness of the camps, Gerda and her young friends manage to create a community of friendship and love. Although stripped of the essence of life, they were able to survive the barbarity of their captors. Gerda's beautifully written story gives an invaluable message to everyone. It introduces them to last century's terrible history of devastation and prejudice, yet offers them hope that the effects of hatred can be overcome.

Book excerpt: A first-contact novel written from an alien perspective by the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Trek Into Darkness. Ryo is one of the Thranx, a race of social arthropods. From his larval years to now, his life has been normal, though his love of learning and insatiable curiosity set him apart. He has settled into his work as an agriculture specialist and is premated to a lovely female. Yet Ryo still feels something is missing from his life, and when he heroically defends his colony from the Thranx’s reptilian nemesis, Ryo gets a taste of excitement that’s hard to forget. Then his premate shares a garbled message from her starship-captain cousin—one that hints at the discovery of a completely new, completely alien space-going intelligence. Even when the captain backtracks and denounces the experience as a deep-space nightmare, Ryo can’t let it go. He becomes obsessed, leaving his colony and family behind to chase rumors of a murderous alien race, horrible beyond imagining. And when he finally makes it to an isolated military outpost rumored to harbor the captured aliens, he comes face-to-face with . . . humanity. Praise for Alan Dean Foster “One of the most consistently inventive and fertile writers of science-fiction and fantasy.” —The Times (London) “Alan Dean Foster is a master of creating alien worlds.” —SFRevu.com “Foster knows how to spin a yarn.” —Starlog “Alan Dean Foster is the modern day Renaissance writer, as his abilities seem to have no genre boundaries.” —Bookbrowser

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ray of sunlight came through a pane in the glass studio workshop. The scrap glass bucket was nearly full. On top of this heap was a hardened drip of glass that had carelessly fallen from a glass artists punti. Glimmering in the sunlight that morning was the very first Glass Teardrop. It may have remained just scrap until the simple words glass tears softly whispered in the imagination of a would-be poet. Two totally different art forms were about to be married. The story of Glass Tears is purely serendipitous. The need for a unique and meaningful sympathy gift happened at just about the same time as the glass teardrop appeared at the studio. The poem, Glass Tears came to Randal S. Doaty as unexpectedly as the teardrop itself. He had never written a poem before, but he felt the need to give his new teardrop a voice. The Glass Tears Poem Journal is a collection of what many different Glass Tears have spoken through the voice of this poet.
