Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th issue of ICOM Education that I have the pleasure to introduce has two new features: – it is sponsored by the European Union; – all CECA members were invited to present a contribution. The European Union sponsored our journal through EMEE EuroVision - Museums Exhibiting Europe, a project led by the University of Augsburg, whose purpose is to explore an innovative, interdisciplinary approach for museums to re-interpret their objects. Therefore the core of the project is the change of perspective (COP). The project partners all considered CECA as an outstanding platform to disseminate the project, which is a further proof of the reputation of our Committee. […] (Emma Nardi)
Book Synopsis Mapping a New Museum by : Laura Osorio Sunnucks
Download or read book Mapping a New Museum written by Laura Osorio Sunnucks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping a New Museum seeks to rethink the museum’s role in today’s politically conscious world. Presenting a selection of innovative projects that have taken place in Latin America over the last year, the book begins to map out possibilities for the future of the global museum. The projects featured within the pages of this book were all supported by The Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research (SDCELAR) at the British Museum (BM), with the aim of making the BM’s Latin American collections meaningful to communities in the region and others worldwide. These projects illustrate how communities manage cultural heritage and, taken together, they suggest that there is also no all-encompassing counter-narrative that can be used to "decolonise" museums. Reflecting on, and experimenting with, the ways that research happens within museum collections, the interdisciplinary collaborations described within these pages have used collections to tell stories that destabilise societal assumptions, whilst also proactively seeking out that which has historically been overlooked. The result is, the book argues, a research environment that challenges intellectual orthodoxy and values critical and alternative forms of knowledge. Mapping a New Museum contains English and Spanish versions of every chapter, which enables the book to put critical stress on the self-referentiality of Anglophone literature in the field of museum anthropology. The book will be essential reading for students, scholars and museum practitioners working around the world.

Book Synopsis Dictionary of Spoken Spanish by : U. S. War Dept
Download or read book Dictionary of Spoken Spanish written by U. S. War Dept and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a complete, unabridged republication of a Dictionary of Spoken Spanish, which was specially prepared by nationally known linguists for the U.S. War Department (TM#30-900). It is compiled from spoken Spanish and emphasizes idiom and colloquial usage in both Castilian and Latin American areas. More than 16,000 entries provide exact translations of both English and Spanish sentences and phrases; as many as 60 idioms are listed under each entry. This is easily the largest list of idiomatic constructions ever published. Travelers, business people, and students who are interested in Latin American studies have found this dictionary their best source for those expressions of daily life and social activity not usually found in books. More than 18,000 idioms are given, not as isolated words that you have to conjugate or alter, but as complete sentences that you can use without change. A 25-page introduction provides a rapid survey of Spanish sounds, grammar, and syntax, with full consideration of irregular verbs. It is especially apt in its modern treatment of phrase and clause structure. A 17-page appendix gives translations of geographical names, numbers, national holidays for Spanish countries, important street signs, useful expressions of high frequency, and a unique 7-page glossary of Spanish and Spanish-American foods and dishes.

Book Synopsis Charles Deering and Ramón Casas / Charles Deering Y Ramón Casas by : Isabel Coll Mirabent
Download or read book Charles Deering and Ramón Casas / Charles Deering Y Ramón Casas written by Isabel Coll Mirabent and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lavishly illustrated, bilingual art book presents drawings by Ramón Casas in the Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections at the Northwestern University Library and oil paintings by Casas from private collections and the Art Institute of Chicago. Charles Deering and Ramón Casas follows the development and dramatic dissolution of a three-way friendship that connected the Spanish painter Ramón Casas (1866–1932); the Chicago industrialist Charles Deering (1852–1927), who was a collector and admirer of Casas’s work as well as a patron of Northwestern University; and the Spanish artist Miguel Utrillo (1862–1934), Casas’s lifelong friend and the father of the French painter Maurice Utrillo. Casas introduced Deering to Sitges, a beach town near Barcelona, Spain, where the latter created a palatial estate with a museum to house his art collection. Miguel Utrillo served as director of the museum. The text explores the treasures housed at Maricel and what happened among the three men that led Casas to abandon Utrillo and Deering to depart Spain, taking his art collection with him.
