How he has acquitted himself of the task his readers must judge. It is enough to say that such lengthy descriptions of scenes appearing in this book have no place in the ordinary guide or handbook to this historic shire. These will open up to the reader a wider horizon, and make him acquainted with scenes which probably, as yet, he has left unexplored - much to his own loss.
