Book Synopsis Maritime Skills on Vessels & Shore – The STCW Convention's Relevance & Recommendations by : Dr. (Capt.) Vivek Jain
Download or read book Maritime Skills on Vessels & Shore – The STCW Convention's Relevance & Recommendations written by Dr. (Capt.) Vivek Jain and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-07-11 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book is of the seafarers, by the seafarers, for the seafarers Seafarers are the core of all maritime trade and their expectations/perspectives alone should be at the centre of all solutions for maritime skills. Taking this standpoint, the editor has explored the issues of maritime skills with critical gaps following a framework of research methodology. The issue of critical gaps in maritime skills is further exacerbated due to the impact on seafarers caused by changes in – the ecosystem, status & relationship with stakeholders, technology, focus on renewable energy, anxiety levels and so forth. Furthermore, stakeholders can no longer ignore the fact that seafarers are leaving a seagoing career after working for only a few years. Therefore, the editor has also explored the need to prepare seafarers for transition into maritime shore jobs to preserve their maritime skills within the maritime industry. This exhaustive book can be used as a guide for further revisions or a revamp of the current STCW Convention. The editor thereafter divided the researched critical gaps in maritime skills into four groups (Jain’s Model for Maritime Skills) – Panoptic, Social Intelligence, Upskilling & Reskilling for onboard vessels skills, and Portable Skills for future shore jobs. Panoptic and Social Skills are core skills required for both on board vessels as well for maritime shore jobs. Thereafter, the editor embarked on a voyage to discover, persuade, collaborate with a number of exceptionally experienced subject-matter experts over many months to collaboratively pursue many mini-research projects across all selected maritime skills, adopting specific methodology to plug these critical gaps. These experts were drawn – (1) from countries such as India, the Philippines, Romania, South Korea, Malaysia, UAE, the UK and Singapore, (2) from both genders, (3) from deck, engine & professionals settled ashore, (4) with current experience in the industry and/or at sea at a fundamental level, and (5) from seafaring-supplying nations, recognising/experiencing the relevant socio-economic circumstances of seafarers. From this book, seafarers will not only find ideas on how to plug gaps in their maritime skills, but also how they can transition with their existing skills to other maritime jobs, such as marine superintendents, marine managers, designated persons ashore, managers supervising new build/second-hand vessels, IT managers in the maritime domain, marine surveyors, marine experts/investigators, marine pilots in ports, maritime arbitrators, managers in shipyards and so forth. The solutions in this book will also resolve the issue of the shortage and retention of seafarers.
Book Synopsis Vessels That Thrive by : Ryan E. Bentley
Download or read book Vessels That Thrive written by Ryan E. Bentley and published by . This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people today acknowledge that the physical and spiritual dimensions of health connect somehow, but many Americans don't connect their lifestyle choices with their health, let alone their faith. In Vessels that Thrive, Dr. Ryan Bentley does what Thomas Edison said the doctor of the future would do: "interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." As a devoted Christian he champions the biblical idea that the human body is God's vessel, and as an innovative physician he properly defines health in terms of thriving, not just surviving. Dr. Bentley cites solid medical research and engages the wisdom of God's truth in the Bible to challenge and encourage us toward a theology of wellness-health, healing, and faith-that synchronizes rather than divides the physical and spiritual aspects of the human person within our environment. He calls readers to embrace a gospel-shaped approach to healthy living that has the power to set us free from poor lifestyle choices that can account for seven of the top ten causes of death today in the United States. Written to help and inspire both the healthy and the sick, believers as well as skeptics, health-oholics and couch potatoes alike, this book offers something for every human being who desires to delve more deeply into why we should take care of our bodies and what's at stake if we don't. Dare to be different in your family, your church, your medical practice, your community, and the world!

Download or read book Humanity's Vessel written by Gary B. Boyd and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity One was built for one reason, and maneuverability was not it. The vessel was a massive biosphere that plowed its way through space guided by values established by humans long dead. Captain Cesar’s paradigms were rocked by the fact that the Innovators did not anticipate the possibility of an alien encounter. Added to the Captain’s burden was the fact that fifteen-year-old Maddie and her Generation 4 Group engaged in heresy that could spell failure for future generations and Humanity One’s Mission. Torn between the teachings of the Innovators and the radical behaviors of the Gen 4 teenagers, the aging Captain struggled to find solutions to the dual dangers to humankind. Either an attack by the aliens or the assault on tradition by the teens could lead to the extinction of humans, and the Innovators offered no guidance to successfully resolve either danger.
