Book Synopsis Mindset Mathematics: Visualizing and Investigating Big Ideas, Grade 1 by : Jo Boaler
Download or read book Mindset Mathematics: Visualizing and Investigating Big Ideas, Grade 1 written by Jo Boaler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engage students in mathematics using growth mindset techniques The most challenging parts of teaching mathematics are engaging students and helping them understand the connections between mathematics concepts. In this volume, you'll find a collection of low floor, high ceiling tasks that will help you do just that, by looking at the big ideas at the first-grade level through visualization, play, and investigation. During their work with tens of thousands of teachers, authors Jo Boaler, Jen Munson, and Cathy Williams heard the same message—that they want to incorporate more brain science into their math instruction, but they need guidance in the techniques that work best to get across the concepts they needed to teach. So the authors designed Mindset Mathematics around the principle of active student engagement, with tasks that reflect the latest brain science on learning. Open, creative, and visual math tasks have been shown to improve student test scores, and more importantly change their relationship with mathematics and start believing in their own potential. The tasks in Mindset Mathematics reflect the lessons from brain science that: There is no such thing as a math person - anyone can learn mathematics to high levels. Mistakes, struggle and challenge are the most important times for brain growth. Speed is unimportant in mathematics. Mathematics is a visual and beautiful subject, and our brains want to think visually about mathematics. With engaging questions, open-ended tasks, and four-color visuals that will help kids get excited about mathematics, Mindset Mathematics is organized around nine big ideas which emphasize the connections within the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and can be used with any current curriculum.
Book Synopsis Canada–US Relations by : David Carment
Download or read book Canada–US Relations written by David Carment and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the 32nd volume in the Canada Among Nations series, looks to the wide array of foreign policy challenges, choices and priorities that Canada confronts in relations with the US where the line between international and domestic affairs is increasingly blurred. In the context of the Canada-US relationship, this blurring is manifest as a cooperative effort by officials to manage aspects of the relationship in which bilateral institutional cooperation goes on largely unnoticed. Chapters in this volume focus on longstanding issues reflecting some degree of Canada-US coordination, if not integration, such as trade, the environment and energy. Other chapters focus on emerging issues such as drug policies, energy, corruption and immigration within the context of these institutional arrangements.

Popeye Hooker knows that space isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. A former fisherman who takes a job building low orbital stations to escape a failed relationship, he finds that in space, construction work is still a grind. And when they aren’t building the space stations that will usher humanity into the stars, Sam Sloane and the rest of the beamjacks get high, blast the Grateful Dead, and stare through telescopes at the world they left behind. But life in orbit is about to get much more interesting. Nestled among the life support equipment that keeps them alive and the entertainment systems that keep them happy, the beamjacks find something astonishing. Turns out, their home isn’t just a space station—it’s a giant antenna designed to spy on every inhabitant of Earth. It’s the greatest privacy invasion ever perpetrated, and the beamjacks won’t stand for it. They may not be pioneers, but these roughnecks are about to become revolutionaries. Timely—and with Orwellian undertones, Allen Steele’s debut won the Locus Award for Best First Novel. Perfect for fans of Robert Heinlein, Robert J. Sawyer, and Greg Bear, Orbital Decay blends fantasy and science fiction with a prescient attention paid to the dangers of government surveillance.

Ultimately he fills this void in the eyes of an alluring French actress and learns what truly fulfills him… love. It seems that nothing can keep David from being with her but the closer he gets, the more it seems someone is trying to sabotage the relationship. Slowly, David discovers that not only is someone out to ruin him, but that he and those close to him are in extreme danger. Living in a suburb of the Big Apple since a teen, Viktor Kozlov became the most sought-after assassin, just like his father before him. He’s been hired by the government, the mafia and anyone who could afford him for his extraordinary ability to make his “hits” appear as accidental deaths. However, Viktor struggles for the balance of who he is and who he is destined to be until one day when an unusual client arrives at his house with an extra unusual request. Don’t Bite the Apple is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you pleading for clues to solve the mystery of David’s fate. Fear, laugh and cry with David as the twists are revealed and you discover why, when, and who connects him to the most dangerous assassin in the world. Book Synopsis Upsetting the Apple Cart by : Frederick Douglass Opie
Download or read book Upsetting the Apple Cart written by Frederick Douglass Opie and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upsetting the Apple Cart surveys the history of black-Latino coalitions in New York City from 1959 to 1989. In those years, African American and Latino Progressives organized, mobilized, and transformed neighborhoods, workplaces, university campuses, and representative government in the nation's urban capital. Upsetting the Apple Cart makes new contributions to our understanding of protest movements and strikes in the 1960s and 1970s and reveals the little-known role of left-of-center organizations in New York City politics as well as the influence of Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 presidential campaigns on city elections. Frederick Douglass Opie provides a social history of black and Latino working-class collaboration in shared living and work spaces and exposes racist suspicion and divisive jockeying among elites in political clubs and anti-poverty programs. He ultimately offers a different interpretation of the story of the labor, student, civil rights, and Black Power movements than has been traditionally told. His work highlights both the largely unknown agents of historic change in the city and the noted politicians, political strategists, and union leaders whose careers were built on this history. Also, as Napoleon said, "An army marches on its stomach," and Opie's history equally delves into the role that food plays in social movements, with representative recipes from the American South and the Caribbean included throughout.
