Book excerpt: Autopsy means to "look for yourself within" or "to see with your own eyes." We will open the spiritual body with the scalpel of God's two-edged sword, the Word of God. As we begin the autopsy of the dead church we immediately find that DNA evidence links every person in the church with an infamous and ancient crime scene--the Garden of Eden. As we continue the autopsy of this dead church we find the fingerprints of a noted murderer and thief all over the body. Like all of us, Satan has certain traits that identify his prints. The dead church has had major brain damage. In some cases there is an enchanting or forceful preacher that has performed a spiritual lobotomy hindering any deep or independent biblical thinking of the people of the church.

Is Praise What You Do? answers these questions and more with fresh practical and biblical insights that directs readers to a more extensive understanding of the role and practice of praise and worship as the most proficient methods to increase faith and intimacy with God. A Christian life that is focused around praise is a life that deliberately and purposefully seeks the Presence of God. A life focused on praise sends heaven the message that God I acknowledge you, I love you, and I glorify you. Our lives as Christians should be exciting, because when we praise and worship, we are communing with the Living God, which is the most potent aspect of our faith. God is alive and He invites us to commune with Him in praise and worship as a part of an awesome, thriving relationship. Book excerpt: Shiloh’s Scepter was to leave my descendants a clear, unequivocal message of hope and truth pointing them to the God who has sustained and blessed me since I was nine years old. A great challenge in this modern computer age is finding a way to peak people’s curiosity, especially young people, about what a centuries-old book has to say. I have struggled to present many of the basic biblical truths in an easy-to-read format interesting to all ages. In these pages you can find the basis for the confident beliefs and strong convictions responsible for shaping the essence of my being and guiding my choices in life. Many of the key themes of the Christian life are addressed in the thirty-nine chapters. These include the way to salvation, coping with sin, spiritual growth and responsibility, church life, prayer, faith, anxiety, happiness, depression, materialism, old age, death, and heaven. If you own a Bible, you hold in your hand the very same scepter our Lord so deftly wielded against the enemy when tempted in the wilderness. This kingly wand, an awesome weapon and incomparable guide, will protect you from the evil one and keep you safe on your journey through life. But importantly, you must learn how to use the Word for it to be effective. Results achieved are commensurate with how well your powerful blade is brandished. If you find the time to read this book and it improves your Bible skills in any significant way, then my countless hours of writing will have been well spent. May these pages lead you humbly to the feet of Christ, enlighten your spiritual understanding, and challenge your commitment to Christian service!

Book excerpt: Truth be told! That is a command not a suggestion. It is time for the church to be established in what the Apostle Peter called "present truth." Only then can the church bring forth the faithful and true witness that will turn the world towards Christ. In a generation familiar with the concept of "smart bombs," open the pages of this book and be ready for a spiritual explosion that will transform your heart and mind. It is time for the "treasures hidden in the sand" to be openly revealed. In this sequel To The Unknown God, the truth will be told in such a way as to strengthen, encourage, and enlighten you to be able to walk in the complete and perfect victory of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the 'here" and "now" of this life. Onward Christian soldiers! Pastor Fred Gorini is a loving husband and father, who along with his covenant wife of 33 years, founded a local church in Daytona Beach, Florida, 25 years ago. A strong believer in the local church, Pastor Fred continues to serve at Rock Church of Daytona Beach. The dedicated pastoral staff and elders there are preparing the next generation to walk in uncompromised Biblical truth. Pastor Fred's visionary teachings are seasoned with prophetic insight that has edified the local church in his own community as well as in many relationally networked congregations around the United States of America. His revelation of the Word of God has been tested and proven not only in the United States, but also in several nations of South America, Asia, and Africa. Regardless of the many challenges the local church is facing in its desire to manifest the kingdom of God on earth; Pastor Fred insists that the true gospel really is "good news" for "whosoever" will believe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governing the Tongue explains why the spoken word assumed such importance in the culture of early New England. In a work that is at once historical, socio-cultural, and linguistic, Jane Kamensky explores the little-known words of unsung individuals, and reconsiders such famous Puritan events as the banishment of Anne Hutchinson and the Salem witch trials, to expose the ever-present fear of what the Puritans called "sins of the tongue." But even while dangerous or deviant speech was restricted, as Kamensky illustrates here, godly speech was continuously praised and promoted. Congregations were told that one should lift one's voice "like a trumpet" to God and "cry out and cease not." By placing speech at the heart of New England's early history, Kamensky develops new ideas about the complex relationship between speech and power in both Puritan New England and, by extension, our world today.

Most importantly, expressions add intimacy. No conversation is complete without revealing expressions. God has and is expressing himself to those who can hear him. Although his words are informative and full of life yet, they are not as clearly communicated and as intimate without his expressions. It is his desire to reveal his expressions through his Holy Spirit, so that believers may know him intimately through his word.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 2000s, mainstream international news outlets celebrated the growth of Weblogistan—the online and real-life transnational network of Iranian bloggers—and depicted it as a liberatory site that gave voice to Iranians. As Sima Shakhsari argues in Politics of Rightful Killing, the common assumptions of Weblogistan as a site of civil society consensus and resistance to state oppression belie its deep internal conflicts. While Weblogistan was an effective venue for some Iranians to “practice democracy,” it served as a valuable site for the United States to surveil bloggers and express anti-Iranian sentiment and policies. At the same time, bloggers used the network to self-police and enforce gender and sexuality norms based on Western liberal values in ways that unwittingly undermined Weblogistan's claims of democratic participation. In this way, Weblogistan became a site of cybergovernmentality, where biopolitical security regimes disciplined and regulated populations. Analyzing online and off-line ethnography, Shakhsari provides an account of digital citizenship that raises questions about the internet's relationship to political engagement, militarism, and democracy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Election is a strange word when used in theology. It brings to mind old debates about what God might or might not have done before the foundation of the world. But viewed apart from that historical baggage, the word election is about a central gospel idea: that in Jesus not only does God choose to be God for us but chooses us to be for God. The calling of the disciples in the gospels is a story of election, of how God chooses to transform the world by choosing us to be messengers and agents of that transformation. So it is, says William Willimon, that election becomes not just the content of our preaching but the means as well. God chooses preachers. How unlikelyhow oddis it that God should entrust the proclamation of the gospel to, well, us? This unpredictable, electing God reaches out to save the world and then leaves it in the hands of preachers to get the word out? Through us, through our stammering tongues and faltering hearts, the preached word becomes the Word of God. If you wonder why you drag yourself into the pulpit every Sunday, if you worry that your sermons aren't reaching past the front pew, then read this book and be encouraged. God chooses; God chooses preachers; God chooses you.

The mountains and valleys we face regarding relationships are often tiny spots to God. We can trust God because He is faithful. By trusting in His promises and understanding His unconditional love for us, it is possible to scale the unscalable and repair our relationships. Over the years, marriage has changed. In her book Mystery of Relationship through the Lens of Scriptures: Marriage, Sex, and Intimacy, author Dr. Elizabeth Thambiraj explains those changes and the strains put on marital relationships. Despite difficulties, Elizabeth Thambiraj shows how the marriage covenant can be maintained through God. She points us to the happiness, security, self-worth, and confidence available from our Maker. You’ll be reminded that fear, lust, and jealousy are not part of true love. The author also reminds us that to love someone unconditionally means to love the other person in the past, present, and in the future, even when the person disagrees with your opinion. On marriage she has given one of the most biblically insightful explanations of the drastic change in the marriage relationship that resulted from the Fall at Eden, and provides excellent guidance on ways that the marriage covenant can be maintained through feeding our better angels with forgiveness, understanding, patience and forbearance. If we feed our lustful tendencies, we have committed adultery long before the physical act itself.—Dr. Jerry L. Ogles, Presiding Bishop, Anglican Orthodox Church, Anglican Orthodox Communion Worldwide
