This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is aimed at individuals who are either denied jobs of their choice or find that working for others is not for them. One option open to all of them is self-employment. This becomes workable only if the dormant entrepreneurism present in all nonentrepreneurs can be jolted out of its slumber to set them on a path leading to the ranks of entrepreneurs. This is the path of the reluctant entrepreneur. The path will be strewn with obstacles, and success is decided by whether the travelers make the right choices during each of the three major stages of their journey. The three major stages are start, growth, and exit. The first and most important success factor is to start right. The second success factor is to continuously adjust to a changing market. The third key success factor is to decide how the travelers wish to exitwhether to cash out and retire rich or to leave a legacy to be remembered by. This book presents the many options available for each major stage and discusses the key factors to focus on for success. A number of carefully selected case studies are included to show why some travelers are successful.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an analysis of the transition from unemployment to self-employment and its subsidisation with the so-called "bridging allowance" in Germany. On the basis of econometric models, the determinants and the success of self-employment among former unemployed are estimated at the individual as well as at the firm level. By comparing different groups of the formerly unemployed, it becomes evident that self-employment is one successful route out of unemployment, as self-employment proves to be more stable than paid-employment. Therefore, the bridging allowance reaches its aim of regaining stable employment for the unemployed. However, this programme fails to create additional employment in the newly founded firms.

This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wide-ranging European perspectives brought together in this volume aim to analyse, by means of an interdisciplinary approach, the numerous implications of a massive shift in the conception of ‘work’ and the category of ‘worker’. Changes in the production models, economic downturn and increasing digitalisation have triggered a breakdown in the terms and assumptions that previously defined and shaped the notion of employment. This has made it more difficult to discuss, and problematise, issues like vulnerability in employment in such terms as unfairness, inequality and inadequate protection. Taking the ‘deconstruction of employment’ as a central idea for theorising the phenomenon of work today, this volume explores the emergence of new semantic fields and territories for understanding and regulating employment. These new linguistic categories have implications beyond language alone: they reformulate the very concept of waged employment (including those aspects previously considered intrinsic to the meaning of work and of being ‘a worker’), along with other closely associated categories such as unemployment, self-employment, and inactivity.
Book Synopsis Jump-starting Self-employment? by : Rita Almeida
Download or read book Jump-starting Self-employment? written by Rita Almeida and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One important concern of governments in developing countries is how to phase out large safety net programs. The authors evaluate the short-run effects of one possible exit strategy-programs that promote self-employment-in Argentina. They provide evidence that a small fraction of beneficiaries were attracted by this program. Overall, potential participants to self-employment are more likely to be female household heads and more educated beneficiaries relative to the average Jefes beneficiaries. Using nonexperimental methods, the authors show that participation in the program does affect the labor supply of participants, by reducing the probability of having an outside job, especially for males, and increasing the total number of hours worked. But the intervention fails to produce on average income gains to participating individuals and households in the short run. The fact that a small subset of former welfare beneficiaries are attracted to the program, coupled with the fact that only a subset of participants (younger and more educated beneficiaries, and with previous self-employment experience) benefited from participation has important implications for this intervention to represent a viable exit strategy from welfare.
