Book Synopsis Lubrication of Electrical and Mechanical Components in Electric Power Equipment by : Bella H. Chudnovsky
Download or read book Lubrication of Electrical and Mechanical Components in Electric Power Equipment written by Bella H. Chudnovsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lubrication of Electrical and Mechanical Components in Electric Power Equipment presents an analysis of multiple applications of lubricants in the power industry for both electrical and mechanical parts. One of the key features of this book includes a look at the use of lubricants for surfaces of electrical and mechanical parts protection from mechanical wear and friction. Also included are examples of degradation due to fretting, as well as corrosion protection when lubricant is a barrier between metallic surfaces and atmospheric pollutants. This book analyzes the effects of chemical composition and consistency (fluids, greases, solid lubricants) and the durability of lubricants in regard to various types of contacts and mechanical parts material, design and load. Focused on the importance of carefully choosing the lubricants to maintain a stable contact resistance; preserve the physical integrity of the contact surface; and extend the useful life of mechanical parts, such as bearings, the author presents an exhaustive list of lubricants manufacturers and products recommended for use in the electrical industry.
Book Synopsis Operator's Guide to General Purpose Steam Turbines by : Robert X. Perez
Download or read book Operator's Guide to General Purpose Steam Turbines written by Robert X. Perez and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When installed and operated properly, general purpose steam turbines are reliable and tend to be forgotten, i.e., out of sound and out of mind. But, they can be sleeping giants that can result in major headaches if ignored. Three real steam turbine undesirable consequences that immediately come to mind are: Injury and secondary damage due to an overspeed failure. An overspeed failure on a big steam or gas turbine is one of the most frightening of industrial accidents. The high cost of an extensive overhaul due to an undetected component failure. A major steam turbine repair can cost ten or more times that of a garden variety centrifugal pump repair. Costly production loses due an extended outage if the driven pump or compressor train is unspared. The value of lost production can quickly exceed repair costs. A major goal of this book is to provide readers with detailed operating procedure aimed at reducing these risks to minimal levels. Start-ups are complicated by the fact that operators must deal with numerous start-up scenarios, such as: Commissioning a newly installed steam turbine Starting ups after a major steam turbine repair Starting up a proven steam turbine after an outage Overspeed trip testing It is not enough to simply have a set of procedures in the control room for reference. To be effective, operating procedures must be clearly written down, taught, and practiced—until they become habit.

Book Synopsis Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings by : Piet M. Lugt
Download or read book Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings written by Piet M. Lugt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive book on the science of grease lubrication for roller and needle bearings in industrial and vehicle engineering. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings provides an overview of the existing knowledge on the various aspects of grease lubrication (including lubrication systems) and the state of the art models that exist today. The book reviews the physical and chemical aspects of grease lubrication, primarily directed towards lubrication of rolling bearings. The first part of the book covers grease composition, properties and rheology, including thermal and dynamics properties. Later chapters cover the dynamics of greased bearings, including grease life, bearing life, reliability and testing. The final chapter covers lubrications systems – the systems that deliver grease to the components requiring lubrication. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings: Describes the underlying physical and chemical properties of grease. Discusses the effect of load, speed, temperature, bearing geometry, bearing materials and grease type on bearing wear. Covers both bearing and grease performance, including thermo-mechanical ageing and testing methodologies. It is intended for researchers and engineers in the petro-chemical and bearing industry, industries related to this (e.g. wind turbine industry, automotive industry) and for application engineers. It will also be of interest for teaching in post-graduate courses.
